  1. My Scorpa does the same thing. Take a look at the chain tensioner, mine has a fit when I try this.
  2. We had a new 2002 Rookie for a year. It too used plugs for no reason. It would run for a couple or three trials without missing a beat then suddenly just stop. Plug always looked fine. Perhaps a little on the sooty side but no ammount of cleaning would persuade it to spark again. This happened perhaps 10 times in 12 months then we sold the bike. And got a 125. Young lad soon got the hang of changing the plug and kept a spare close at hand. The plug problem was the only thing that ever went wrong with that bike. After a whole year the tyres still looked like new, it didn't have the power to wear them out which was just what the rider needed as an introduction to trials. He could start it easy. pick it up himself and used 1st gear everywhere. Magic little bike.
  3. The Stratford Upon Avon MCC are pleased to announce that; Off road motorcycle dealer, Behind Bars of Kenilworth will be sponsoring the OK Supreme Long Distance Trial on Sunday 25th September.
  4. I must admit I have my lever set a little higher than standard and use my heel quite a lot (not exclusively but 95%). This is due to having had operations on my toes (road racing) which required the use of pins. If I use my toes too much the pins in my toes cause bruises.
  5. Here in the muddy rock-less Midlands, 5psi front and 4psi rear is somewhere near for a 13stone rider. But there are many variables to this.
  6. The Richard Morris Team Award. There will be an award for the best team of three riders in the OK Supreme Long Distance trial. The score from each rider in the team will be added together, team riders may be from any class. In answer to questions which I have received (off forum) The only check that will be made at the start will be on the rear tyre which must be a trials type. Anyone wishing to enter a modern trials bike for an easy days riding may do so, but will not be eligible for any class awards. Machines must be road legal, the responsibility for this will be left to the rider. Road Insurance will be available at the start, subject to certain terms and conditions, for just
  7. Ouch and ouch again!!!!! The thought of wrecking my alloy pegs hurts, but the skin bit......... oooh my poor shins!!!!!!
  8. For the OK Supreme LDT, the secretarys email address is: richard_gill@lineone.net This is a good address as I have recieved a mail from him in the last 24 hours. If anyone is still having dificulty in getting regs, email me off forum and I will get a set to you. Regards Pete Scorpa3
  9. The regs will be available shortly for the OK Supreme Long Distance Trial. The event which is a round of the ACU Trail bike championship, will compete over a 75 mile course starting in Moreton in Marsh on Sunday 25th September. The route will include both trails and long sections of private land not normally open to traffic. Aimed at trail bikes, the OK supreme will include 30 sections set out on the Cotswold hills, which will be ridden without inspection, so will therefore be wide and straight-forward. Last year the trial was won by Steve Venn on his Pampera 250 from Cheltenham, who completed the course for no marks lost. The best rider on a 400 fourstroke riding a DRZ Suzuki, lost just eight marks. The entry fee will be
  10. So was it a hard event then? :-)
  11. Whilst checking for voltage, take the plug out. It makes kicking a whole lot easier. There is a possibility that the stator has failed. It may have been breaking down for some time. New spark plugs create less demand on the electrical system, as they get older more current is needed to make a strong spark. This could be one reason for the symptoms which you describe. I have had a similar problem with a Beta Zero many years ago. There was some current coming from the stator, enough to allow the bike to run for a while but then something, perhaps the engine heat, caused it to stop working. It did this for half a dozen trials until I sussed the problem. A company called Bradford ignition services rewound the stator and sent it back within the week for
  12. Lets hope so, there's no excuse for such problems continuing from 04 to 05 never mind next year also.
  13. Had two stators go in five trials. There are good ones and bad ones. The water thing may have been a contibuting factor for the first stator. Certainly wasnt for the second one. Beta build quality is generally excellent. Have known a couple of riders have kick starts break on 04's (one on a 200!)
  14. The clutch does feel a little strange when you first get on the bike. However I soon got used to mine. It stems from the fact that the Yamaha engine does not allow a normal hydraulic clutch operation as on most modern bikes. It was initially a cable clutch. Scorpa have solved this problem by fitting a hydraulic slave cylinder which moves the original cable arm, thus the operation does feel unusual. For a clubamn rider here in the muddy Midlands (UK) the Scorpa takes some beating. Yes, there are better bikes for Experts and there are easier bikes to work on, but the Scorpa is truly a class act. As I've mentioned before though, all machines can and do go wrong in the end. But my 04 Beta kept loosing it's electrics and my 03 Gas Gas looked old very quickly. Fingers crossed for the new Scorpa. I can honestly say; personally I love riding the Scorpa more than any other trials bike I've owned and it certainly flatters my very limited ability!
  15. Stratford Upon Avon MC Club Trial Sambourne Farm 7-8-05 Steve Harris smashed the form book with a perfect ride of the 40 Expert sections at Sambourne Hall farm near Studley on Sunday. The long ride around Sambourne farm was made even longer by the mid week rain which stopped farm manager Dave Heming's combining. The large 'flat in top' field used in previous years still had crops on it, so some careful headland deviations were needed. The 10ft vertical drop to the left of the narrow path certainly slowed everyone down. Former Stratford Club Youth Champion Harris had the measure of the tight turns in and out of the deep streams around the farm. With Harris finishing on zero, runner up John Cowleys chance of a win disappeared at section seven on the first lap when he misjudged the height of the raised log and needed a very long dab to stop his Gas Gas from looping the loop. The tight turn onto the log took marks from all on the A route apart from Harris and third place man Michael James. Mick Chapman yet again topped the less severe B route dropping just 5 marks, one better than Scorpa mounted Pete Barnett. Chapman was the only rider on the clubman route to stay clean at muddy rooted section two in the ponies paddock. On the easier C route, Andy Bishop 'just' edged out Barry 'Justice' by 11 marks to 12 despite loosing concentration and having a stray dab in the shallow water at section nine. Chris O'Brien finished on 13 which was a superb ride on a Beta AlpTrail bike. Congratulations also to class D rider Chris Wickham competing in only his second ever event. Chris completed all four laps of the trial and attempted every section on his 80cc Beta, father and minder Pete Wickham did his best to follow round but even the local iron man competitor couldn't complete the four laps on foot. 16. Tubeless tyres usually deflate slower when punctured. Not really a plus point on a trials bike but better than a sudden deflation on the road.
  17. I purchased a new REV3 Beta in 04. and just couldn't get on with it. Finally due to electrical failure I px'd it in for another Scorpa. I had an SY250 three years ago and found it brilliant as a clubman bike. I knew that I should have gone for another SY when I bought the REV3 but felt like it was a backwards step, afterall the Scorpa has changed little since 2001. That said, I am really pleased with my 05 250, despite being an ageing model, it can do far more than I will ever ask of it. I have fitted a slow action throttle which softens the power delivery down even more, but riding in the muddy club trials in the Midlands, it's spot on for my limited ability. On the reliability front, although anything mechanical can and does go wrong, my 02 Scorpa never let me down in two years of riding every weekend. I hope the new one is as good.

    Which Gasser?

Had a go on a Raga rep recently. Talk about ride like plonker. Couldn't use 25% of that bike, makes me realise how good the top guys really are. At least on my Scorpa I can use 26% :-)
  19. The Stratford Club are holding the second of their summer trials events at Sambourne Farm near Alcester on Sunday. The event will feature a good ride around the farm with three routes available to cater for all levels of ability. Sambourne is signposted from the A435 between Studley and Alcester, the start time will be 10.30am.

    Which Gasser?

Other makes also go wrong. My 04 Beta Rev3 had three stators in just 5 trials. The second stator only managed one event. The Gas Gas 250 it replaced had completed at least 100 trials from new and never once failed to finish an event.

    Headset Bearing

The idea of putting a couple of small weld runs does work very well. If nothing else, the heat makes the parent metal go brittle and crack easier when tapped. Although usually the heat from the weld is enough to make the outer race go loose.
  22. I must agree. The Sherco 4t feels spot on to me (As a clubman rider) I certainly couldn't feel the extra weight however, I also couldn't start it. Not from Cold. Not from hot. So I bought another 2st for this year. See what '07 brings along in the way of 4t's.
  23. Nothing much going on that weekend local to the Cotswolds. Where will you be staying?

    Which Gasser?

I think you've answered your own question there. Although.... have you tried/thought about a 300?
  25. Tried most and owned many different types of modern trials bikes over the last 10 years and the Scorpa SY motor is definately my favourite. The Yamaha engine certainly flatters my ability but then I'm not much good in the first place.
