    Funny Sound

Greetings, I Had the same mysterious noise ,baffled me for months ,thought it was a lose spoke ,no fitted new chain ,end of noise ,but check your tensioner also as it may be out of whack. The split link is for fitting when the chain has stretched and needs links taken out so you ,still use ,speedway boys use d to use them .Cheers from New Zealand.
  5. Who cares about the fuel ,you're going trials riding ,shame about the ute though, should be a Holden and a sherco mix .Good job, made similar frame for my ute and also for the back of a mates bus ,which also carried a four wheeler .Keep your feet up.
  6. Oh dear, the inventor must have had a very disturbed childhood. Isn't their engrish superb.
  7. Hi from New zealand ,my 290 is the same ,I use elf oil and when it's near use by date the clutch will bind initially ,normally rubber band clutch lever in when not using .But also let bike idle on start up for 3/5mins max ,but hey we're probably not used to your lower temperatures .Great choice of bike they are magic.and absolutely miserable on fuel compared to a Gasgas.
  8. give a good long hard run on full throttle or near enough ,then stop it straight away ,that will give you an idea on the state of tune as the plug will either be white /lean ,grey /spoton ,. brown black /too rich.you also could be sucking air through a leak in base barrell gasket, rare but a possibility . What state is the air filter ?.Also when you rev it does it drop revs quickly or slowly ,slow to return to idle ,lean .also check the recommmended needle setting. What have you done differently than the previuos owner ? that also might give a pointer.
  9. Christ and i sold a whole bike with new front guard and rear for $1600 nz might buy it back and retire.
  10. Thanks Dabster, so how to adjust preload ?. Thanks.
  11. If you want to stop water into air intake ,I get a piece of thin neoprene and make a cut out for the intake that tucks under the lip ,the sheet i made covers right up to rear plastic trim, tucks in under guard lip and goes down each side till it shows out under rear guard, trim off at that ,and extend the neoprene right down to the tank mount screw hole i have found this stops any water ,although it is not mean't to be a submarine. This way water splashes are deflected and run down the inside of the guard etc.Hope this helps.
  12. For anyone who's interested, the fault turned out to be a worn seal on the water pump impellor shaft ,pressurizing water into gearbox, hence oil being pushed out the breather.Thank you to those who replied.
  13. Thanks for that ,I have been riding for the last few weeks with oil level same@ 450 and no drama until i flipped it and it fanged it's guts out. There was more oil than youd normally find just in the breather tube.
  14. Help, After aiming for the moon on a hill climb and gravity taking over I upended my 290 and the throttle jammed wide open. After dusting myself off I NOTICED A COUPLE OF SECTIONS LATER THAT THE CRANKCASE BREATHER WAS pumping oil out and the bash plate was quite wet .Bugger.The bike ran fine and was still easy to start .There was no increase in exhaust smoke or noticeable decrease in performance. It seemed to be breathing more oil out when it was hot ,say after a section.I haven't checked the oil level yet .Any thoughts or processes of elimination I should go through ?.Any help would be appreciated.
