Lets be honest off road motorcycling (trials) has a bad image, albeit with the un-informed public who assume that anyone riding a trials bike is some marauding balaclava wearing youth out to destroy the peace and tranquility of the countryside. Some of the looks I've been given off rambers would have curdled milk, even after I've done the customary nod of the head and greeted them with a, ''Good Morning''. The real truth is very far from that. We are a family sport, consisting of people from all walks of life, who enjoy the countryside in a responsible manner.
To help improve our sports standing amongst other countryside users has the ACU or should thay consider employing some type of media PR company. If we can start fighting our corner and improving the public's perception of the sport then perhaps we might be able to stem the loss of land, that we rely on to run events?
Do the ACU have links with other groups that use the countryside, such as the Rambers Association, NFU etc. If we haven't I believe we need to start forging links and establishing a rapport.
Our sport depends on it.

Rob,
I'm no 64 getting away at 10.01.
Baldilocks,
I will be riding (or trying to ride) the clubman route.
See you for a post trial pint in the Eskdale.
-
If you go to the start, Castleton cricket club pavillion, you should be able to get a programme. This will tell you where the sections are.
As stated earlier, following the trial on a trial bike is a BIG no no. There are plenty of places to spectate that are not far from main roads. There should be some decent riders out there, I think Jarvis is riding, Michael Brown definetely is.
-
hi Cota, new to all this, is the cleveland trial held at "chartons"?
ive just become a member so might have a pop up.
(night out in the town night before, )
The Cleveland is a National trial, which starts and finishes at Castleton. The lap is about 25 miles and takes in about 36 sections. You need to have submitted an entry by post and been successful in the ballot.
-
Anyone riding the Cleveland this coming Sunday, 18th March 2007.
Remember not too much Guinness the night before.
-
Western Isles does it for me. A lass from Harris or Lewis - that sorta region
Your getting a bit fussy aren't you?
I could have sworn you would have gone for the ASBO Chavette, Kappa Slappa.
-
Begs the question what is an English accent? Are we talking BBC newsreader or ASBO chavette?
-
Legitimate off road motorcycle sport is and will always be under a continuous state of seige from those that want to see it banned outright.
-
Eddie, by any chance was this young boy you and are are you still recieving counselling, therapy?
Between me and you I've got something a lot worse than that on Doug.
He supports Manchester United.
-
Does Ann Summers stock it?
-
Everytime Dougie rides a World Round and scores points he is continuing to set an ongoing record. Hopefully this year he will achieve an incredible 100th WTC Round win and that Holy Grail of Trials the 8th Title.
-
I wouldn't be naive enough to think that club trials and even nationals will remain safe, the loss of practising at Addingham will only be the tip of the ice berg. Once those people see how successful they've been in stopping legitimate practisng then they will look at stopping events. Also what about the people who don't compete in trials but still like to get out and ride.
-
The fact I wasn't fussy is the reason why I got married. lol
Automobiles, motorcycles or even sheep have never interested me in that way.
-
& I thought you only had eyes for the fat lass with the flat tank, do you like it when she's a dirty girl? I've got this awful vision of you, the bike & the lycra suit.
Perce,
I think you should keep your awful visions to your self its not healthy.
CK
PS I do like my 4RT but I wouldn't go as far as to shag it.
-
Better be careful when I tell people, how dirty my car is.
-
But apart from all that, what has Dougie Lampkin ever done for trials?
-
Further to Eddie Lejeune's posting about Dougie not being an Ambassador for trials got me thinking. Maybe he is right. So despite of EL's failure to further elaborate on this controversial statement, I thought I would.
So apart from
7 consecutive World Outdoor Trials.
5 indoor WTC.
2 Scott Trials.
Nearly a decade of the best trials schools on the planet.
Numerous memorable Sheffield wins.
99 Outdoor WTC Round Wins.
The enormous entertainment he has, and continuous to give trials fans around the World.
What has Doug Lampkin MBE ever done for trials?
-
and waiting................................
-
Ron
you only want the lap dancers there because you know they will end up queing up to give you a tenner for the priviledge of dancing for you.
As we all know, Ron, when your about no woman is safe, or wants to be.
Go get em Tiger.......................
-
A screen of trees will take some time to get established, what may be needed is a temporary timber or other material screen to either absorb or deflect sound, for example bales of hay could be used in strategic locations.
Are there any trials rider / Acousticians out there willing to provide any free advise?
-
Try the official website.
Here
I would be very surprised if there is a charge and all I'm doing is turning up.
-
On what basis is the complaint, noise? We as responsible trials riders are an easy target for the powers that be. Its a lot more difficult to catch someone flying about the streets on a stolen crosser or a mini moto so they go for the trials rider.
How can one individual stop the enjoyment of such a large number of legitimate trials and responsible trials riders.
What can we do to stop this?
-
There's nothing in the posting by jim w that suggests paying a visit to the person who complains and indeed any mention of threats.
Your 2 + 2 = 5 attitude Spud appears to be the same as the people who think that all people on offroad motorcycles wear balaclava's and fly around the country terrorising everyone.
Perhaps if the person or persons making the complaint was known then people might be able to come to a mutual agreement to resolve the reason why they have a grievance in the first place and hopefully the resolution will be to the benefit of all parties.
-
Four weeks tomorrow will see the eagerly awaited start to the 2007 World Outdoor Trials Championship in Mancha Real in Andulacia, Spain.
Me and DJ Denzil are making the trip to cheer on Doug, Dibs, Browny, Wiggy and the rest of the GB lads. Is there anyone else making the trip.
No doubt the usual suspects will be up for a few Cerveza's and a plate of olives anyone else is always welcome to join in.
-
I might pop down for a red bull but it will have to have vodka in it.By the way cota kid im using the stop watch you kindly donated for the first time tommorow will let you know how she go's!!!!!!!
Top Tip. Remember to count in minutes and not hours.
