  1. Looking great John, and the mudguards are a perfect fit.
  2. Hi Ally Best just to post a Link to any articles, that way it buffers the site owner from copyright issues. Did you sort out your clutch problems? Cheers Dave
  3. Nelly , you deserve so much more support, if only I weren't in Suffolk ! Like the new website as well.
  4. From your vids your techniques ok. As it's your first trial, arrive as early as possible, walk the course, tag along with other riders and get their views on the line to take. When the trial starts watch a couple of riders through each section to back up your idea on the line to take. Don't worry if you don't finish your first trial through running out of time / energy , most of us never did!!! Take plenty to drink , and a bite to eat - you will need them both. And also take a towel along coz you will sweat buckets..... Good luck, it's great fun.
  5. Hi You might find that one tank unit (the longer seat ) is from the trail version of the bike normally denoted by a T after the model number. ie Cota 248 small seat is Trials version. Cota 248 T longer seat is Trail version and the bike would have had lights fitted as standard and possibly rear footrests.
  6. Hi John, the rear mudguard is a Goneli universal rear trials from the superb guys at Inmotion (Bultaco) UK. When fitting if you offer it up first to see if it covers the full area you require.I found i needed a part of my old mudguard to extend it! so i hid the join up behind the tank/seat cover by the air filter where its out of sight. The alternative is the Stilmoto long which has a different profile but appears much longer in the curve and hence a bit more expensive. cheers Dave
  7. Summer lay off refurb finished, removed the red paint from the forks , a few new parts fitted. Time to get it dirty again! Next trial in 4weeks
  8. These pegs can tilt up out of the way and they tend to stick up, I would hate for it to stick up mid section and when I went to put my foot back down on it and it not be there......... Finished my off season refurb so posting a photo on the 'show your mont thread'
  9. Hi John These are the footrests that I fitted , fair bit of grinding on the original lugs ot make them fit. Just need to sort return springs ! as you will see from the next photo
  10. Hi Shoney I'm back into trials after 30years, ( bought a twinshock like I used to have ) been riding again for 4 months practicing and then one trial a month , improving all the time ! To start off I was knackerd and bruised, kept falling off , even on the easiest section I built myself. But then it gradually gets easier and it begins to come together, you let the bike do all the work. You start attempting harder sections , tighter turns ,steeper climbs, bigger drops , higher logs....... Then it's time to test yourself on an organised trial , easy route and give yourself plenty of time, watch a couple of riders through the section and decide on your line , remember let the bike do the work and next thing you know you will be completing all the laps .... You will get the sense of achievement and be able to compare your scores with your mates and get even bigger smiles than you have now. Just give it a chance and plenty of practice. Cheers Dave
  11. Whilst working on my Mk4b today I noticed the spacer on the front engine mounting point on the frame but like Steve's it is on the left lug which would move the exhaust nearer the down tube - but I have plenty of clearance like john's photo's ? ? ? Steve, your barrel look to be the correct type ! John you have done the same as me with the foot pegs , a little bit of grinding on the mounts and the lugs on the pegs, just got to sort out some return springs for them..... But it saves welding plates on for the bracket type foot pegs generally available. Will post some photo's of my refurb in the next few days when it's back together. Cheers Dave
  12. Unfortunately they are just Sad People who can not bear to see other people having FUN.....
  13. Just picked up on the finishing titles of the Arinsal film. Or click on the Victor Martin Bordonau link on Vimeo > Fantastic Twinshock action.
  14. Also think Victor's Classic D'all Trial film is excellent
  15. Summer restoration on this MK4b though might keep the Frame Silver! Cheers Dave
  16. Enter a novice trial or take the easy route on a club trial to see if you enjoy slow riding. If you still find that boring then perhaps you should look at enduro events to fulfill your need for speed and jumps.
  17. Cold starting (even in summer) you have just got to find what works best for individual bike ! If you can prime the float bowl with a tickler lean the bike over to the opposite side from the tickler vent and make sure petrol overflows, if the carb has a choke lever make sure it operates fully on - then try a couple of squeezes on the petrol pipe. Turn the engine over with a couple of slow kicks, then with the smallest of throttle opening give it a good kick and keep throttle opening small until the engine runs evenly. Wide throttle openings will only introduce more air not fuel and should only be used if engine gets flooded with petrol.
  18. Noticed that BVM are selling a set of 247 inner swinging arm bushes for £30 if you get stuck.
  19. Hi johnI have a MK4b about 74 / 75 needed a bit of work on the carb when I got it last year but it's running fine now and done a few twinshock trials, even surprised myself with some good results. Enjoy yours, half the fun is working on it !
  20. Welcome John Hope you enjoy your Cota when its all back together. It took me a couple of months of practice to get back into the swing of things, and the muscles that hadn't been used for 35 years - to recover from the shock..... Cheers Dave
  21. I also do not know the rules concerning a stalled bike in the section, but from the above clip what concerns me more is that on the later part of the section where you see the minder kicking the loose earth when Bou crests the ridge #1:30 in, you can definitely see him roll backwards to get inside the marker before he tackles the last rise and before he even has the dab at the end of the section. The rules have got to be the same for everybody, and everybody observed consistently .
  22. I feel that Scotland should be kept for the Six Days, the premier event closely followed by the Pre-65 Scottish. Nord vue at Penrith is an ideal venue for a man made exterior stadium event which allows for blanket charges for entry to be made @£25 which seems slightly excessive considering in Belgium an entry charge was 5 and this was open to honesty by the 6,000+ spectators ! I don't know how many spectators there were at Penrith last weekend but from photo and video evidence nowhere near Belgium or Italy! Was that down to price? or the fact that you can see a centrally located stadium , man made set out ,indoor with seating ,with World class riders for much the same £25 Certainly I feel that a Yorkshire located, naturally laid out trial that would test the worlds best would get better support , perhaps jointly funded by the FIM the ACU and Advertising. Could this be the ultimate UK WTC ? Thoughts.......The Scott on Steroids?.........
  23. Welcome Lewis Looks like your getting yourself a great sport and hobby! As far as riding gear goes try to afford a new helmet as you may never be able to tell just what has happened to a second hand skid lid ! ! ! I have a couple of X-citing outfits, my first that's about five years old, still in perfectly useable condition but as I recently entered a two day trial and knowing that it would be wet I purchased from Matt Gardiner on eBay another X-cite suit and the quality is just as good. Also get yourself a decent pair of trials boots, but try them on for comfort first coz the sizes never come up like shoe sizes.... Most of all get yourself to a few local trials, speak to riders - we're a friendly bunch ! Perhaps even observe a couple so that you can see how riders tackle a section and see the lines they take, it's all good experience, then look forward to getting your first bike. Cheers Dave
  24. Bou and Raga are from another planet..... Well done to Emma. Looking forward to next weekend.
