  1. hi Andy, it will only run properly with shell optimax! If i use super unleaded,it wont start.Very strange, but i`m happy with it now. Thanks for asking.
  2. Havnt seen any replies to your previous post but if it runs/starts ok when warm, the obvious thing to check first is the choke.Have you had the carb off and given it a good clean?,compressed air is the best option, blast away any blockages. In the float bowl,i think there is an o`ring at the bottom of the choke body.Check this. You could try richning the mixture to see if it helps starting. Steve
  3. here`s the website mate. http://darwen.mc.cc.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/
  4. hello everyone.Did anyone do the darwen trial today??,was that field muddy or what??.It was a good trial though, really enjoyed it.A guy fell of today and the paramedics arrived by tractor!!.If anyone knows him, tell him i hope he`s ok. Steve
  5. shame fajardo didnt make it when he tried going along the edge of the skip instead of in it!!.That would have been special.
  6. After the recent problems with my bike,i ended up using shell optimax which is the recomended 98 octane. This weekend,i used shell first with no problems, then topped up later in the day with normal unleaded and the thing wouldnt start unless i bumped it.Changed back to shell this morning..no starting problems. Hope this helps Steve
  7. There`s a 1% deal in fridays tmx if thats any good Steve
  8. Firstly,if you have a flywheel with a hole in,i find that strange.I am sure that these where stopped on the 04 models(my bike doesnt have one). The timing mark is behind the plastic cover on the edge of the casing. Its very tiny, you will have to mark it with a marker pen to make it more visible. I recently bought a used 04 290.I had exactly the same problems as you describe. It was a real pig to start hot or cold, weak spark and all that, and the main problem is it wouldnt run for more than 20mins.This told me that the stator was shot(have you got this problem?).I replaced it.Now the bike starts 4th time from cold and starts 1st time when hot ,although its still not running spot on.(see my posts recently).I have changed coil/cdi etc like yourself, but i uused a donor bike.To be rerfectly honest, the spark doesnt seem as good as it should(compared to my gasser) I`ve managed to help starting by by increasing pilot to a 35 and richning the mixture.I know you shouldnt realy have to do this but it has definatly helped starting, along with the replacement stator.)
  9. I have an `04.When i bought it, it kicked back every time,so much that it started to bend the kick start.Stator was faulty, since the new one was put on,its not done it since.Turning the stator plate will improve it.If you retard the timing,it will be "softer" at the bottom end.You just have to find the right setting for you. On my bike, the scribed line goes to the right hand edge of the ally lug. hope this helps Steve PS oil from the overflow could mean compression escaping past crank seal causing to much pressure in gearbox. Hope its not that mate.
  10. I agree, looks totaly crap, especially the tank. The fork protectors dont even fit properly, but some mug will buy `em
  11. Send me a personal message with your email and postal address, iwill send you my paypal info.I will post asap Steve
  12. hi Andy I think i will take it to the shop soon.I think it needs an expert now. I just recieved a post fom a guy across the pond who read my post about the splutter. He said he had a similar problem,it was caused by a cracked muffler. He also pointed out that the tail pipe makes a great grab handle which is why the cracks probably got there.I do this, although i know i shouldnt. If your having carb probs, might be a good idea to check your exhaust for breaks. good luck Steve
  13. Nearly there andy.Just an anoying splutter at low throttle to sort out now.The new stator eliminated all the starting/conking out problems. Is yours ok?
  14. yes to paypal.I`l get the thing weighed and get you a price. Steve
  15. cant imagine it being more than 20 quid.
  16. I may have one in my shed.Watch this space. Here it is.You can have it for the price of postage if youre interested. I used this in a box trailer i used to have.Just roll the bike in the gap then you need to tie downs .job done. Steve
  17. in my opinion all the latest bikes are excellent. In all my years of biking,i`ve never known a frame break from normal use.Trials bikes get a lot of abuse, they need looking after. We all get a bit slack with this maintenance thing now and again, but it pays to keep it up. I came back from practising the other day and took my bike (sherco )straight off the trailer and into the garage.I normally clean it,but `cos i was tired out i thought i would "do it tommorow".Well tomorrow happened a week later, when i went onto the garage, the bike wass covvered in furry deposits off salt,(from the gritters)and some of the spokes hade gone rusty, and also a feww nicks on the frame had rusted.I was mad at my self for leaving it.I just spent the rest of the day cleaning it up,then sprayed it with WD,but all just proves that you gotta look after`em!!
  18. yeah, common problem.Just run it till it sorts itself out, usually only a few minutes. You can modify your clutch plates by knurling them(if you know someone who does it) Steve
  19. Thanks for all the replys.I`l do the wd40 thing first.Hopefully thats where the problem might be,although i have visually checked this area before. If not then its got to be the seal. Watch this space! PS, nigel,Yes i completly stripped the carb and gave it the compressed air treatment.I`m as sure as i can be that the carb is not causing the problem, and cheers for the offer of the reeds, but i swapped them with the other bike so i know they are ok. Cheers Steve
