  1. Does anybody know if the newer shercos have the same fork seals as an 2004 model? Thanks in advance
  2. Hi all,i recently went looking at new bikes,i came across a scorpa and the clutch lever was strapped to the handlebars. This was obviously because of a sticking clutch, but a good idea i thought. My sherco clutch sticks when its cold,so ithought i might try it. I wouldnt have though it could do any damage ,what do you think??
  3. Are you sure it didnt come on?after 2 hours without the fan,the bike would have boiled over or even worse, siezed up.Are you at the north pole ??
  4. Thanks,i`ll give those seetinga a try.Does the mixture go leaner as the mixture screw comes out? Its my mates bike. He`s been having tick over problems and general unresponsiveness. The mixture screw was only one turn out, could this be causing the sooty plug?? Cheers.
  5. Can anybodt tell me the pilot/main jet sizes for a 2000 315?.Also mixture screw setting and needle clip position. Thanks in advance. If its any help, the bike has the std carb fitted.I believe montesa changed it around 2001/2002 because it was giving problems??
  6. I dont understand it either.I also thought all you needed was a bit of land with the owners permission. The thing that bugs me about this particular venue is that not many people used it.I`ve never seen more than 5 bikes up there(exept when a trial is on),but theres always sombody who moans about noise and ruins it for every body.
  7. Set of to go practising today,we went to a place near silsden,i think its called rough holden farm, got there and there was a big sign up "sorry,no bikes till further notice". A bloke came to speak to us and said the landowner had been spoken to by the local council, not sure of the ins and outs but it seems another nail has been knocked into the coffin of trials...Bummer!
  8. When i do a trial,i try to have a good 15min break after the 1st lap.My arms are realy aching by this time.I find if i rest and have a breww with plenty of sugar,it realy helps me.May not be good for others, but definatly is for me.You also need to drink plenty of water. Also(this probably sounds dumb)when riding the sections, try to relax your grip when you can, constant gripping pressure really tires your arms out. I also find the best bar position is as far foward as poss(within reason).too far back and you tend to hang on,tiring the arms, rather than leaning foward slightly.
  9. Has anybody got any advice about changing the rear shock pre-load.I havnt much idea on this subject. The reason i ask is because on some photos (of me on the bike)i noticed that the back end appears to be close to bottoming out on most of the pics(i weigh 13 stone).I`ve also noticed that when i pull the bike to the vertical when its been leaning on the stand, the rear end goes down quite a bit, maybe a couple of inches. Is all this fairly normal or what?? The bikes an 04 sherco. Cheers
  10. I have an 04 sherco 290.I found the gearing hard work at first. Its a great bike.I think the the ony time the gearing dissapoints is when you want to do say a long climb, you rev nuts off in 3rd,change to 4th and its like you`ve changed up 2 gears!. Just a case of getting used to it
  11. Main jet is ok.Pilot is a tad lean, should be 33.You can get spare from eurocarb, they have a web site i think I bought a 04 290 18 months ago, that never run right either.Messed about with diffrent jets etc.Eventualy took it to bike shop, turned out piston was in wrong way round.Runs sweeet now http://www.sherco.com/downloads/service/02_manual.pdf Good luck
  12. tying a strap round the outside works a treat.Done that one myself
  13. My bike used to die after 20mins every time. The stator was shot. This happened to my (sherco 290 04)bike.Quite expensive to replace .I believe a rewind is cheaper though,if you scan the forums, there one or two items on this subject. Your symptoms are slightly diffrent to what i had,but i would take a guess at this being the cause.
  14. Can anybody tell me how to get to Ding quary from bacup?? Cheers
  15. NEVER use any throttle to start. With the choke on you get a fast idle any way.Two or three kicks should be enough.Should be able to run without choke after 10/15 secs
  16. http://www.trialstrainingcenter.com/html/how_to_ride.html Try here.Not a dvd but its a good start
  17. I used to have an old honda TL.The way i used to do it is remove the points cover and crank the engine till the cam in the points is under the moving part of the points,in efect, the fully open position.Measure the gap and adjust. I think some bikes have points behind the flywheel, again crank the engine to TDC,and a slot in the flywheel should let you access the points for adjustment. Hope this helps!!
  18. Dont know much about the RT,but a sooty plug usually means you`re running rich
  19. sounds like its running rich if it starts so easily without choke.Check the mixture screw setting, and make sur air filter is in god order
  20. The engine can only burn the amount of oil that you put in it,not like a four stroke which can burn to much oil if the rings have gone. Are you sure youve got the correct oil and is the mix is correct??,also check pilot jet size and needle clip position.
  21. The orings should sit nicley in the grooves.Sound like they sent you the wrong ones. The exact same thing happened to me
  22. Anybody know if a 1990 gasser rear wheel will fit a 290 sherco.??
