  1. After a careful inspection of the venue at Cliffe Lane on Sunday 04/12/2011, the Clerk of Course deemed the venue unsuitable for OSET Championship E-Class event due to the conditions on the ground. With the expectation that the conditions underfoot will remain as they are at best and maybe worsen by the time of the Trial. We hope you understand that we have to consider the safety of the young competitors first, and we acknowledge that some will be disappointed at not being able to ride. Please Note The Novice & Beginners Trial being held the same day is NOT affected (as of writing this) and will continue to run as normal. The Novice & Beginners Trial will not be suitable for E-Class riders and entries for that class will not be taken.
  2. It could be the main bearings on their way out
  3. Clark of course hat on - I believe all courses set by COC's and their helpers try where possible to place flags in a such a way as least likely to be knocked over, yanked out or flattened and still set a course that is testing to the riders level. But, no matter how careful the course plotting, flags will on occasion get dislodged and therefore riders should be marked a 5 for dislodging a flag or breaking a boundary tape. For the trials I have COC'd, the flags are set as wide as possible, and usually at least 1m apart and generally between 1-3m apart depending upon terrain. Riders Hat on - flags are always in the wrong place especially when you ride over one on and knock it over or flatten it. "It was already dislodged Mr/Mrs/Ms.Observer, it cant believe it has been my poor choice of line/bad riding!!!", LOL Observers Hat on - If the majority of riders get through the section with out touching or dislodging a flag then a rider doing so should be given a five. If a flag is constantly being dislodged and section is un-ridable for the level of competitor, once all riders have completed the section I may adjust the placing if possible. Then inform the riders returning to the section that it has changed slightly and go check their lines.
  4. I'm led to believe we will be able to use the streams this Saturday. I'll be helping to set the trial, so is there a part of the streams you would like to see set as a section? Leigh

  7. Appologies for the short notice, the 7th Club Championship Trial has been moved from Sunday 11th September 2011 to Sunday 18th September 2011. This is due to the Huddersfield Falcons Club are having a Charity Trial on the same day not too far away and asked the Spen Club if we could rearrange dates. The venue and start time remain the same.

  10. I've been told (not had chance to confirm this) the stated start time in the TMX for the Spen Valley Evening trial this Saturday at Cliffe Lane is 1pm. This incorrect. The correct start time is 5:30 pm.
  11. Just to add, all bikes in the trial are scrutinised and require the following to be on the bike: lights front and back, handle bar pad, kill switch, all levers to have safe(balled) ends. regards Leigh

  19. Hi Greg The club has lost access to the moorland there. However, As the shrimp hill trial was a road trial some of the committee have been looking at the possibility of linking venues the Spen club has access to like the brown cow with others not far away via the road network. Ok, it's not quite the same as riding over moorland but would that sort of trial still appeal to you?
  20. chewy, if you have, can you post a link(s) for the 3 day trial after the 4 jour de la Creuse, and if you have a link for any of the others that would be great. cheers Leigh
  21. Hopefully this will work Look North article starts around 23 minute mark
  22. Hi not before the final Club champs has been run. I'm sure the folk at the Spen will endeavour to get a list out ASAP. I'm guessing sometime around the AGM in January. The award winners list will be put up on web site too. Hope this helps Leigh
  23. Great Pics keep up the good work
  24. Hi Nath, Harden Moor is a great venue, but be prepared to drop a few marks as the club championships are a test, and the majority of sections at harden moor are over rocks, rocky climbs and rock filled bomb holes. But I'm sure you'll have fun but have a good look round the course before the trial. Leigh
  25. Results are up. Just to let you all now the next Spen Trial is a Club championship at Harden Moor on 20th November. The Clubman (easy!)route will be similar in difficulty to the hard route as at the N&B trials and not really suitable for absolute beginners, but do come along and have a look. You can watch good riders make hard sections look dead easy and see me make easy sections look hard but fun to watch none the less. We are always happy to see new faces and we are always grateful for anyone helping to observe.
