CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY WHO WERE BORN IN THE
1920's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese, raw egg products, loads of bacon and processed meat, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes or cervical cancer.
Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
Take away food was limited to fish and chips, no pizza shops,McDonalds, KFC, Subway or Nandos.
Even though all the shops closed at 6.00pm and didn't open on the weekends, somehow we didn't starve to death!
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy Toffees, Gobstoppers, Bubble Gum and some bangers to blow up frogs with.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on or the cows came home.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. We built tree houses and dens and played in river beds with matchbox cars.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo Wii, X-boxes, no videogames at all, no 999 channels on SKY, no video/DVD films,
no mobile phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
Lawsuits from these accidents.
Only girls had pierced ears!
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns at Eastertime...
We were given air guns and catapults for our 10th birthdays,
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!
Mum didn't have to go to work to help dad make ends meet!
RUGBY, FOOTBALL and CRICKET had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! Getting into the team was based on
MERIT
Our teachers used to hit us with canes and gymshoes and bully's always ruled the playground at school.
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law!
Our parents didn't invent stupid names for their kids like 'Kiora' and 'Blade' and 'Ridge' and 'Vanilla'
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
And YOU are one of them!
CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good.
And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.

Saxo will not take the nose weight of a trials bike at 78kg plus rack. If you had an accident you may find the insurance void. Look on Ebay or gumtree for local trialers.
You dont need a 4x4 as vans are way better, no dragging a bike in salty weather in winter.
-
Yes rode most bikes and me mate currently rides a 125 his sons. Look a 125 will do anything i accept that but im 13 stone and me mate is what 10 stone and he admits you have to think about the power/ torgue as its not on tap like a bigger bike. A young kid will learn with this but an adult im not so sure, so id say get a 250 soften it of if require then alter it and you keep the same bike saving money and investing in what you keep if on buget.
-
Wiggy is about what 10 stone wet through. I dont buy that a 125 is good for an adult novice as its under powered and usually screams its head off in the hands of decent 125 riders to work em. Ok they maybe soft but have no real bottom end.

Montesa 315r was still wining world rounds when Beta Rev3 GasGas Txt Pro and Sherco was out almost in current forms. If you want buget buget buy quality as a good old tried n tested nail is better than a new unknown. Also forget 125 as its under powered and you`ll just be fighting to get the power unlike yes a 200 which is probably the best beginners bike. Anything beyond 250 will be way to much in power and just cause you problems taming the bike.
-
i would stretch the bank and go newer. Beta Rev3 or Montesa 315r would be the best bet for value. Avoid early Sherco and Gas Gas pro as they seemed trouble. Scorpa is not good IMOA. The Beta Rev3 is donkeys years old gear box engine design as new 94 up to the current model less a few tweaks, so tried and tested. Mont`s are really Honda so Jap quality not what youre father said in his day.
At the end of the day try some bikes as i say its like asking what wine is good to drink.
-
I think the Scorpa is weak. The tank is asking to be smashed and can be damaged easy. Never said that sounds nice after a year or two. Casings are very weak as me mates fell over and the gear lever went through the case.

Sat wide awake thinking (sad *******) about my first trials bikes back in 82, a 1971 Montesa 247 Cota followed by a TY 175. Technology made a big step in 83 with the TY250 monoshock as i saw Mr Scarlett on one at Steetly quarry. I stopped in 84 only to return in 90 to see the Beta Zero water cooled and then stopped in 94. I once again returned to trials in 98 to see the hydraulic clutch to which was the last major improvement i can really think of.
I was wondering what will the next major advances be on the trials bike be ? maybe gas only shock like on the mountain bikes or CVT gearbox. I guess injection two stroke will be happening as the new Ossa comes back to market.
-
Buy neither as they both had issues. Sherco had main bearing problems if i recall back in the early models. Get a Beta Rev3 or Montesa 315R if youre skint.
Like said buy on condition as you wont get an 8 year old bike unless luncky in decent nick. Then be ready to throw money at it as may require linkage bearings exhaust repacking etc etc all adds up to getting a newer bike.
-
I would not trust the police no more than crooks. Years ago i sold my CB125 to my mate, to which he bought an engine from a car boot sale. The police pulled him and took the bike in as the engine turned out to stolen, however the rest of the bike was ok. Role on 2-3 months later and we go to collect the bike minus the engine as informed by the police and the bike has numberous parts missing, infact the amount missing parts actually out weighed replacing them to recycle the bike to road status in which it was in prior to the police seizing the bike. "NOT US GOV" was the reply.
What does happen to unclaimed bikes ? . They must go somewhere.
-
Generally mudguards are cover by a large sticker so i`d trade of finish.
-
The cheapest is best for the manufacturers. The Mont Rim style was done in the 80`s on the Beta`s. I dont think manufacturers look beyond 1 years service life on a bike to much, as it becomes your problem not theirs. Nature of the sport, thats why it failed is the text book quote.
New is not always better but cheaper.

PI Greg is on the case. Never solved a crime yet.
Would be interesting to know of recent trials as few went around this time last year in the area, and all top end priced bikes to. Maybe something or nothing.
Hope its insured.
-
WOW free styling kiss of death 300 points. Awesome throttle control just about to nail it to bring the bike back in. He`s a GOD
-
Bring out the HAMMER failing that sell it and buy a newer one.
-
I use it as does all me mates and never had an issue. Great stuff for leaky Gasser wheels.
-
Looks like trouble to me. I think the engine needs to be stripped and examined. Could you take of the side cases and hopefully find an easy fix, or a call to Lampkin may be a place to start.
I would not turn the engine over or youre looking a big bucks. My lathe bearing went in my Gasser and that resulted in new bearings through out the gear box, mains and an idle gear.
-
Maybe ill start a topic What wine should i buy
-
A Sherco 290 is a terrible bike to start out on. me mates had em only for a couple of months as way to powerful for novice/inter.
-
youve answered your own question. The air box changed on the 02 then remained the same upto 06 with a slightly thinner tank on the 07-08 model.
-
Must be expecting to replace a load under warranty.
-
Pinch bolts on both right and left frok leg then the allen key bolt on the brake disc side then the spindle should pull out, that said ive had to remove brake callipier which made it less tension on spindle.
