  1. I don't think you'll get the bars in a 110. I know that if you take the front wheel off you can get it in. I used to ride in some trials while I was in the Army. They gave me a Landrover 110, and a damned big 3/4 ton trailer, so I ditched the trailer. At the time I had a Fantic 301 and had to whip the front wheel off to get it in. Mind you, that was a hard top, I did manage to get it in to a canvas top 110 once and you hardly needed to strap it in, it just pushed the canvas up by about 8 inches. There's probably so many different types of 110 you'll probably have to try - I don't know, only had the Army ones (You could always get a 110 Ambulance ) The army 110's I had didn't have the sort of angled glass bits on the edge of the roof (poor description) - this must give more clearance. How about this for somewhere to get changed:
  2. Get a VW Polo estate. If you simply remove the rear wheel, front wheel, loosen the head set, drop the forks out, remove the handlebars, remove the rear mudguard, it slots in nicely....probably. Makes a right mess when you jetwash it on the way home though. And of course there's nowhere to get changed, but you're from the North, so you should have no problem stripping to your wedding tackle in sub zero conditions. I'm not helping here am I?
  3. Yep - probably is a lot of fuss over nothing. If I was in Scotland I'd shove the number on the front and just mutter a few miserable words to myself , thinking there are better ways to do it, but a few rules now and then seem to come in without much thought. I still mutter about not being able to go backwards in a section (never mind stop) but I'm probably in a minority on that one (did used to be more fun and its much more skillful than a Spanish 3). I would imagine that the clubs will not carry out the 10 point rule, as most clubs won't want to alienate a single rider for a rule which doesn't seem to do much. The way I look at it, if the club thought it was enough of a problem to penalise riders, then it would be much easier just to issue those riders with a "Stacy" number at a cost of about 3p each.
  4. It seems to me it's just going to cause problems for no reason, even though I would be more than happy to shove the numbers on myself, I can see it causing a pain in the butt. The alternatives are already out there and working fine. Next thing you get penalised for the number being the wrong size. They have somewhat vaguely specified 2 inches (I think for the number height) but badly worded so may be the background. Personal question John - Yours 2 inches? My computer says you're undersized Are you likely to be docked 10 points on a technicality along with the bloke who hasn't bothered his a*** at all.
  5. Thanks - found it. I was looking for a website of their own. From reading all of this, my view is (almost unchanged): All riders should display a number in a trial, for various reasons including: Spectators may want to identify riders (for interest only) Observers may need to identify riders - if a rider rides off (or seems to miss their section) they should be able to identify him. Clarification of which course - if colour system is used for example. I think the rider numbers should be left up to the club to either issue rider numbers or bibs. They are not expensive at all and this cannot be used as a reason not to use them. They work out at a few pence each. It doesn't seem to have been thought through. What do English riders use if we visit your Nationals? We have 5 digit numbers, so using the last 3 seems to me that even from my number 96384, there's a possibility of 95 other riders with the same number. If the english are to be issued numbers by the Scottish club, what numbers do they get? Surely these could clash with the possible numbers displayed by Scottish riders? The illegal rider idea has probably been blown out of proportion as it was mentioned as an aside, but if you have fixed numbers, it is more likely that an illegal rider may have a number and will blend in more than if the club were issuing numbers for the day. Simplify it - Hand out cheap numbers at each trial like many many clubs do already - we don't have any problems - it works, and as far as I know I have heard no negatives whatsoever. The last thing I would say is, I think we need to stop knocking the ACU/SACU quite so much. These are not like the trade unions or local government etc where it is hard to believe that they are on our side. These organisations do actually have our best interests at heart. Most of the staff are motorcycling fanatics, who have invested more in to the sport than they will ever get out of it. If there's some stupid decisionmade (in your opinion), then make your objections known to the people that count. Usually a group of people have voted on these decisions, and it can be overturned if there is enough objection. Funny how whingers and workers are very rarely the same people.
  6. Balls in a basket???? How's that work? Sounds awkward to me!!
  7. Lochaber web site? Not been able to find it yet. Giz a clue???
  8. One of the problems I had with my 02 was the clutch stiffening up. The clutch is lovely and light when it's good, so it's probably fine. If it begins to stiffen up, you can buy the plates to repack it (very cheap), or just shove it in the shop You have to play around with the plates a fair bit to get them within certain tolerances. Just give it a go. Give yourself a bit of space when you chuck it in to gear The kill button will stop you if there is a problem. Rest assured you're never going to find neutral on an 02 Pro with the engine running (that's normal)
  9. Well, just as I was getting a bit excited there, and already had permission from the almighty, it's all gone t*ts up. I looked at the Saturday and Sunday in the calendar and there wasn't much on. But....it's a bank holiday weekend presumably. I'm riding the Lomax on the Monday. I will have to keep my eye on events up there. I'm sure Trialscentral will keep us aware of the key trials up there. Trouble at the moment is a lack of weekends - just one a week. Has it always been like that, it seems busier these days.
  10. Looks like I may be suggesting to my better half that it's a while since we visited her family We'll have to see. Would like to get up there, not sure if I can make it for SSDT week yet. I won't be doing this on a regular basis.
  11. Buddy Hill!!!!! From: Oswestry,Shrops To: Kinlochleven,Highld Total Distance: 362.1 miles Total Time: 7 hr 11 min These days with the amount of speed cameras, the AA is not normally too far out. Looks like it may be the stop off with the outlaws.
  12. My wife's a miserable Jock too Return Return.......exit......doh.....panic....turn monitor off.....hello dear what you doin' up here...
  13. Thanks John, I'll have to see if some of the local lads fancy a trip (share driving - mainly on the way back). Bit of a hike, but would like to get up there. Alternatively I have a stop off point with the clan Adamson if necessary, just over the border. May be able to pursuade a couple of them to chauffeur me up the second half I'll drop Mags an email to enquire.
  14. If you don't issue numbers at a trial, how do you identify which route a rider is riding. We have three colours of rider number red, yellow, white. Or at some clubs a red cross across the number for expert route. Gives us older folk an idea which route to dive into when a rider sneaks up on our dodgy hearing aids too.
  15. Go on then, who's got some details about Ian Pollock Memorial trial? Seems like a quiet weekend at the moment. Fancy travelling 'a bit'. Been dying to see what other peoples trials are like after starting up again 18 months ago. It's three hours to the Scottish Border from here, so please tell me it's not at the Northern tip of Scotland. Which club? Any links for it? Regs out yet? Entry limit? Thanks
  16. Why don't the Scottish just adopt the method most other areas use then? (Well I presume most areas use it ). Clubs issue numbers for every trial to be stuck to front of bike. Not ridden many trials (if any) that didn't have them. Slightly different question - Isn't there a rule up in East Yorks that you have to have a number plate fitted to the front of your bike (not allowed to tape number over your light). Dunno, just seem to remember something like that. I keep intending going back up to ride a trial and I seem to remember being warned about it a while ago.
  17. I've got two baby bottles - One for fully synthetic for the Sherco, and one for TY/PW. Can always put permanent marker on the side if your mental arithmetic is not too hot. All of the above run at 50:1. Much easier to work out than the 85:1 I used to use on the Gasser.

I have great difficulty wearing gloves, but getting used to it a little. Never used to wear them as a kid. I was getting real bad arm pump with gloves on and next to nothing with bare hands. Replaced my grips and it made all the difference. The loss of grip with worn grips meant I needed to hang on too tight. Didn't seem to affect bare hands quite so much. Thought I'd mention it for the lardy's like me :-) It may help. Are these exam gloves sort of plastic or rubbery? Just wondering what effect they would have on grip. P.S. I know I wouldn't get round Scotland gloveless
  20. Oh bugger. Can't see the wood for trees. It couldn't be any bigger Double bugger - It's on the same day as our biggest trial of the year - 40 section trial. Our events won't affect each other much, but there are quite a few who would definitely have made the trip otherwise. We'll have to see how tight things are around those dates. I think it may be too late for us to change.
  21. I've probably missed this??? Are there plans for a TC Trial this year? Any details yet? Cheers.
  22. There's not a single section on a beginner route that the TY250 won't do. In fact there's not much they won't do, although undoubtedly the newer bikes are easier to ride. My brother-in-law has a TY250. My father in law has an old Fergy tractor. When you start the Yam it sounds very similar to the Fergy (big knocking), but - it's been like that for three years and got no worse. If this one's in good nick he shouldn't lose much money on it in a couple of years. Go for it I reckon.

HRC, Have you already seen this thread started by Ian? Montesa almost ready for the hill
  24. No offence Rabie Both my kids were born Southerners and I let them sleep in my house and everything.
  25. It was in the Welsh National last week - section 3. Fair rut as the whole entry did it. Couldn't get him up the second step. He was born while I was posted to Salisbury though (Southerner), so he maybe needs some Yorkshire drumming in to him
