    Sherco 200?

I think you're probably right (possibly), although the more I think about it, the less I agree Admittedly I ride a 290, but at nearly 18 stone on the Expert route I feel I need it sometimes (even if it's just to give the bike a little easier time). Some of the trouble I think is the fact that not many people go out looking for one, so people are concerned about being able to re-sell it. You can always get rid of a 290, 250 and 125, but the 200 is stuck somewhere in the middle. You'd have to convince someone that they don't need a 250. At the same price though is there any real reason to go for the 200. As we discussed before, if it's all just clutch and throttle control to harness the extra power, why not have it in reserve if you do need it (unless you think the extra power could get you in to trouble).
  7. I never feel like you're getting at me Ishy Too thick skinned. I must admit I didn't know that, but I haven't had to observe at a world round yet. Couldn't make it to Ireland last year. Good job eh. I must admit I was relating this to our club trials as this was a burning issue over the past few weeks when a gang of us visiting another centre got 1's for looking like we were going to touch the front brake. So, my reply was probably totally out of context and in the wrong forum. I agree that the training would be useful. What sort of training do you get at the morning observers meeting. Is it a quick run through or more thorough? Maybe I should open another thread in the correct forum to see what people consider a stop as mentioned in my previous post. What version of the rules do the Internationals use and what do club trials/nationals use (or where is the cut off)?
  8. The trouble is the rules are so bloody awkward these days. Very hard to give a '1' for a momentary stop. When you hop your front wheel from one rock to another and give only time for the forks to compress before hopping to the next etc etc it can look lovely and on one section you'll get a clean, while on another they'll give you a 3. Now the sections are timed, I don't see why they don't allow stopping and going backwards again. There was never any great problem in club trials with this anyway.

    Clothing

Me too - I will be riding the Lomax as a Light Infantry Colonel, and see if they'll take a trade in so I never have to ride two trials at the same rank. Sorry - childish mood tonight - I agree - no point splashing out on expensive trousers just to melt them first time out. Some good kit at really cheap prices. You don't mind it getting wrecked quite so much when it hasn't cost an arm and a leg.
  10. Exact same thing happened to me once. Is it parked against a wall?

    Sherco 0.8

It's actually a mate of mine in the quandry. My lads still on a TY80 for now. Rathmell seemed to think that it was coming in sooner than 2 years time, but he's going to have to check that out. I think his other concern is that it will be worth nowt in a couple of years, which, if it doesn't fit in to any class may well be a problem. It was the Nationals that caused the concern. I don't think there's too much concern over engine size in local trials.
  12. Thanks Marky. I was hoping you were going to say Clubman A rode the hard route. I'll be torn now between Inter and Clubman A. I'm trying to avoid travelling a couple of hundred miles to ride the wrong route. I think I'll have to get there early and have a wander round before hand. I generally like the harder sections but I like to be able to walk afterwards I don't mind the marks totting up as long as I can still get to the next section. The only place I've overdone it is YMSA. The level there on the expert route surprised me totally. Excellent trials but got to know your limits. Cheers.
  13. Can someone let me know how many courses there are at the usual Scarborough trials. Which courses do Experts, Inters, Clubman A ride. Is inters higher than clubman A in these trials? Cheers.
  14. Ride the hard route but thats not to say I ride it well. I think there may be a fair bit of difference between standard of routes throughout the country. I'm in Mid Wales/Cheshire and don't often come up against much that makes the a*se twitch, but I went up to a YMSA trial (Derbyshire) and the expert route was too much for me. I changed to Intermediate on the 2nd lap after a couple of near death experiences. My youth was in East Yorks and I keep meaning to get back up to Scarborough some time. No idea what route I should fit in to up there though. They have Expert, ClubmanA, ClubmanB etc. Seems like lads I used to ride with and have come back to trials as I have are riding ClubmanA mainly. (apart from a few who I'll deny all knowledge of as they seem to have improved a fair bit whereas I just got worse (David Pye, Roger Williams etc) Anybody travelled about a bit and can compare the levels throughout the country (or countries)?
  15. Had to check myself - just to make sure. Definitely told by Rathmell that the 250 and 290 were Sachs, and I checked at the time and the German web site confirmed this: Oll
  16. All the documentation says that the shocker should be an Olle. It's actually a Sachs. It just turned out that the spec sheets are wrong. I noticed the German web site lists it correctly. The larger machines used Sachs while the smaller ones used Olle. The Sherco 125 Academy also uses the Sachs now (one of the upgrades made due to the 16 year olds having to ride them in Championship rounds).
  17. If it's the thin one, tell him to contact Rathmell. He will replace it under warranty. They are on "trial". I spoke to Malcolm a while ago. I had a few questions about my 04 290 when I bought it, like why did mine have a different shocker to what the spec sheets said. Anyway the answer to my scrawny kickstart was that they were under test and would be replaced under warranty if they snap.

    Sherco 0.8

What's this all about. Imagine your kid has outgrown the 'rev and go' 50's and needs a bigger bike to progress in the C class. As a Sherco owner already the Sherco 80 seems a good buy. So it would seem as simple as going to the shop and buying one. "Is he going to ride the nationals?" "Yep - probably." "Ahh - Can't buy a Sherco 80 then because the limit for C class is going to be 80cc." "What d'ya mean, it is an 80 I'm buying isn't it???" "Well the Sherco 80 is 99.5cc" DOH!!!!! Seems like there is a big hole in the market. I don't know why manufacturers can't make an engine with decent power under 80cc. Are cc's smaller than they used to be in old money

    Boots

I've gone for Novogars this time. I didn't like the Diadora Stones much - weak straps, hard to keep waterproof. Novogars have been good and fully waterproof with a bit of Nikwax. Got em for
  20. Saddam riding a GasGas?? Oh dear - groan - time for my bed.

    Getting Hot

Probably loads of things that it could be. I'll leave them to the guru's, but is the fluid level OK and is it the right mix (I think GasGas used to recommend a VW coolant mixed 50/50 with water) More importantly - is the fan spinning well. I had one go gradually which meant overheating got gradually worse and worse. I put a 2003 fan on my 2002 because they were better sealed so it may well be OK. I'd forgotten how strong the fan used to be, but when I replaced it I realised that it used to cause a real draught. If you need to test it you can disconnect it and put a car battery to it. It should go like stink. See if there is any play on the bearings. A couple of ideas anyway
  22. Dunno to be honest - but will have a guess. From my poor memory the 301 came out just after that with disc front brakes. Did John have front discs on his 240? Hardly challenging Norris Mcwhirter for memory ability am I, but I'm trying (very!).

    Fuel Mix Ratio

Just divide 5000 by 70 So its roughly 70ml
  24. Normally just remove the circlip (may need circlip pliers - if not to get off then at least to get back on). After that it should just come off. May need a bit of persuasion, just remember not to be too rough with it. Are you replacing both sprockets and chain - presume you are as I remember you saying your chain was knackered. Just that running an old chain on new sprockets will wear your sprockets in quick time. By the way - all the sherco manuals are on-line. If you've got cheap web access it's worth downloading them all.
