Regs and entry out for the Big One, the Jean Williams Memorial Trial - 26th May 2019. Held about 20 miles West of Welshpool in amazing Welsh countryside. Now in it's 18th consecutive year. Great fun trial, great sections, great atmosphere. Great :-) Approx 40 sections, one lap of about 25 miles, all classes, age 6 to 86 (ish). All off road, pass back through the start to refuel twice so no mobile fuelling required. Big screen results throughout the day. Catering, toilets, marquee for entries. Don't miss out! Jean Williams Memorial Trial (Formerly Forest Trophy Trial) coming up soon in Mid Wales - 27th May (bank holiday weekend). A big day out, 40 sections all off road, 4 routes from Sportsman to Expert. Entries limited to 220. Fun trial, yes there are trophies, but the main theme of the trial is just a bl**dy good long day out on the bike. If you haven't tried it, maybe you need to. Limited camping, not so much limit on area, you've got quarter of a million acres, but no nice green fields, just gravelly bits by the side of the forest tracks. For camper vans it's ideal, for tents not so comfy. I can do some digging about local camp sites if you want though. Cann Office Hotel is nearest accommodation at SY21 0PL

Thanks everybody for a really well spirited event. Just under 200 starters. As always, the weather helps, but the observers helped too. Final Entry List is out for the Forest Trophy Trial this Sunday. It's pretty similar to the provisional ones form this week. Very few alterations. Probably 6 years ago now I managed to leave not 1 but 2 tyre levers in a tyre as I put it on. One of those last minute Saturday night ideas after a few pints. Was fine until it moved!

I'm Sherco but I'm guessing fairly standard: Oil - 10 quid? Fork seals - 8 quid a pair Clips - couple of quid Wipers - stupid amount, I think about 20 quid (each). I don't do them every time. One in 5 maybe. Bushes? I've replaced them once (in 9 years of hammer), cost a fortune, I think about 90 quid all in and were a nightmare to get out and in. I'd avoid it if you can.

Loving the way it fits in with smart phones now. That's been half my problem, I very rarely use a personal laptop, everything's smart phone. The forum works pretty well on iPhone now. Might be even better if I could work out the touchbb app. Anyone used it? Good stuff anyway!

Hard to say the value. Depends on condition, but maybe 500-700 if tidy. Not as desirable as the twinshock model 'yet', but they were a very rideable bike. Came out as the Ty mono was proving to be stiff competition for the 240. I had a 301 after my 240, and was a great little bike. Most people took off the lights for a number plate by the way.

No, don't think so mate, was quite a few years ago that Cliff, Dave, Max and co handed over after many years, and needed a rest. A team took over and kept things going for a couple of years (at least), including moving the club from mid Wales to Midland Centre but they also moved on and there were no takers. We got offered a few bits of land, but fortunately, we had more land than you can shake a ****ty stick at. I think Oswestry ran a trial at Bell Isle farm, and we were just glad to see the land get used. You looking to take it over? :-) Can put u in touch with some people if you need. Gaz

That's damned good riding for a beginner, you must have done a fair bit on a non engined bike? Been riding 30 years and rarely see anyone in the first few months looking that comfortable on the bike. The hopping is all about working WITH the suspension rather than fighting it, compress it, use the rebound to just help it off the ground using your front brake to compress the forks and ease it round.

How'd ya get the buggers in? I'm having a right job!

Stripped the fork legs down to nothing, taken the bushes (spacers) out of the top (3 spacers which sit just below fork seals). Replaced the bloody expensive things, but can't get them in. Tried freezing the bushes and heating the fork leg, but don't even seem close. Any ideas? Don't really want to wallop them at 26 quid a pop. Thanks, Gaz

I think it turned out pretty well, but put me right if you have any pointers. Don't think anybody has ever cleaned the whole trial before, but possibly partly due to an unusually dry day amongst a week of sh*t . We normally aim for the winner to be on around 10-15 marks. Although Ross Danby wasn't eligible for points the bugger did manage to go round clean, and to be fair a few others weren't far off. Guy Kendrew dropped a couple of dabs on the two hardest sections of the trial. Dan Thorpe dropped a single 5 on one of those. Ricky Wiggins one of the only riders to clean No 37, but had already had a mare on section 31. Always easier for the later entries, maybe made worse this year by less riders available that weren't riding the trial to scrub the sections. Next year I think we'll attack everything with brushes. You've made some of us realise what crap coaches we are I have to go outside and do it to tell the difference. I watched your vids a load of times to try to see what was going wrong. As a few people have said, your legs are really rigid. Need to get a bit of movement in there. I reckon really exagerate it at first bouncing the bike over it. For that size of rock you don't particularly need to slam it in below the peak, just need to get that back end compressed so that when you blip, the tyre is pasted in to the floor and the suspension extends and hops you over. I dunno whether it will help you or not, but you should be able to get the second blip short enough to literally jump you up the rock and stop on the top (with the brakes of course). Quite enjoyed the vids though, good idea.

One for the Welsh boys! If you missed Ralio on Thursday night, which had coverage of the Powys Trophy Novogar event, there's a repeat of it on Monday night at midnight so set your video/hdd recorder/sky box. For those outside of standard S4C (Welsh channel 4) it's on channel 134 on Sky. Emyr, Howard, and their TV crews turned up for the Novogar event, obviously trying to get some decent coverage of the Welsh boys in the event, and they did a great job. Three TV crews, and a few helmet cams attached to the riders, it's amazing how much work they have to do to fill a 12 minute slot, so fair play to them, I was well impressed. Great to see trials on TV at any time, but especially outside of the World Rounds.

While I'm at it I may as well mention this bit too: Forgot to mention, the TV crews were there today, their aim to get 12 minutes of footage for a clip in their popular Ralio show. I know there were at least 3 crews climbing all sorts of weird and wonderful places to get the shots. Watch out for it a week on Thursday on S4C Ralio (Foreigners will have to search for S4C on sky :-) )
