You have from beginner to champ classes broken out at levels of 1 Beginner, 2 novice, 3 intermediate, 4 advanced, 5 expert, and 6 champ. Some clubs call them by different names like level 3 can sometimes be called clubman, 6 might be called pro etc. depending. I have seen some smaller clubs only run levels 2, 3, and 4 as most riders fit into those levels.
Most people with past off-road experience can start at the novice level and do fine, just be warned it still isn't easy for first timers but is sure fun (kicked my butt first time), however if you consider yourself a street rider with little dirt riding experience taking the beginner line is a great way to learn how an event works without feeling overwhelmed with having to ride the event as well.
As long as you let people know your new to trials as well as to the club/event I am sure they will be wonderfully helpful. Every event I have ever been to has been that way even if just a new to the club and how they work things.

Then the Whiskey Gulch Trials Event June 10th and 11th In Butte, Montana is about 4 1/2 hours drive and well worth the trip if you can make it.
There will be a good number of the eastern ID riders there as I know a few already planning to be there. Most of them are near Idaho Falls area and should be under 2 hours drive to ride with them from time to time.
I am in the Boise area and am hoping to be at the Whiskey Gulch as well but not sure yet if the wife is up for it.
PS. My new 300RR comes in the last week of April.

Seen more than one Honda Reflex being claimed as something they are not... a real trials motorcycle... LOL

About where are you (closest major city in Wyoming?), maybe we could help you get hooked up with some people in your aria?
There is a small group in Eastern ID, Mossy Rock Trials in MT, and WTA Utah Trials Association (https://utahtrials.com/) I know about, at the least it would be good to go to an event if you could make it to one of the closer ones to you?
Maybe your not to far for the "2017 Whiskey Gulch Trials Event June 10th and 11th"?
- Information about it can be found here: http://www.mossyrocktrials.com/

Where striate carbon may not be abrasive the stuff it often combines with inside of an engine can become so... or at least what I have seen would indicate such...
-
If its your first trials bike and you haven't already been in contact with any local riders I would recommend getting hooked up with your nearest local trials rider(s) or group and setting up a ride day. Will be well worth it... It was for me and then some.

Jakerto,
I am in the Boise ID area and have ordered from them once. They start with that amount but will charge less in the end if it doesn't cost them that much to ship it.
I don't remember what the difference was but I was happy to find out it wasn't nearly as much in the end.
you might try emailing them and see if they can give you a closer estimate?

Ok, that both looks great and is great to hear. Guess I know where I will be getting my next set of guards from...
-
40 year old with a Bou helmet and a 300RR right here... I guess I resemble that remark!
I know more than one person at 60+ who stomps me in riding, so ya I guess it's just the way it is and I am ok with that. Al least I am having fun!
-
All this complaining... The weather was such that I had to deal with 5 new interested trials riders giving them a beginners intro to trials. After 6 hours of that I ran into 4 trials buddies and went another 4 hours. By the end of the day I had a sun burn... just crazy weather out here today!

I found that my Montesa seems to do best on premium non-ethanol pump gas. I do end up having to go out of my way a bit for it but with how well it runs it's worth it to me. I found it works better than race Gas.
my 2 cents worth. Hope that helps.

If your snagging the tip that much the "SIDI Discovery Rain Boots" are there Trails boot design setup with some slight changes for adventure riding and include the steel toe cap faussy is talking about. They are waterproof and a bit stiffer to start out with but soften quite a bit from what I understand so after they the brake should be ok.
Here is an example of them. https://www.revzilla.com/product/sidi-discovery-rain-boots?gclid=CJnb-NDY6tICFYpcfgodVtIF5w
Good luck.
Or you could consider trying a different boot brand? The new AlpineStars and the Gaerne are stitched soles, not sure about others but it should help with this particular problem...

My wife's Gas Gas is still running fine on its plastic one.
I haven't ever seen or heard of issues with the plastic ones on Gas Gas.
-
That sounds like cam chain tensioner to me as well.
-
Looking good on that enduro. Even your trials video shows that when your not as focused as you need to be you have improved a lot. keep it up!
-
One of the few items that's just best to be 100% sure about from my point of view. Good luck.

I am a bit of a tight wad so I always change mine based on my perception of not having good grip anymore. I could probably do with changing mine more often but I don't seem to be having issues and I spend less doing it that way so...
And I agree with the oni nou, front tyres out lasts lots of rears and its really down to your own budget and preferences...

Well it took a lot longer than next payday but I finally was able to get a Hebo Zone 4
They sent me the wrong color so I have to see about getting that resolved, but I was able to check size and fit.
Head shape from what I can tell is more round than I had hoped, it doesn't seem to bad so its a level of between round and oval however with my very oval head it isn't the best helmet for my head. I suspect the Airoh TTR would fit my head better, but I think for the price and fit the Hebo will work ok.
I can live with it because it isn't causing pain or discomfort though it isn't a 9 or 10 out of 10. I am hoping with the good venting and everything else it will end up being at least a 7 or 8 out of 10. It will take a ride or two to know, and have to get them to send me the correct helmet color first so maybe a few more weeks before I can give a full review.

I am also just about the same size at 13 stone and I started on an 08 Gas Gas 125. That 125 was the best thing for me to have started on in my opinion, I have sense moved onto a 250 but the 125 got passed down to my wife and she loves it. I still ride it from time to time and it doesn't have any issues moving me around. I think if I did it over I might have picked up a 200 beta but wouldn't ever thing a 125 is a bad call.
Good luck.

Nice misconception/myth I hear a lot is isn't that one of those stunt bikes?
Frequently enlightening people on that one... LOL

I was lucky and found a rod kit for sail on Ebay by someone willing to ship to the US. I have had to source a few parts in other ways as a part or two where missing.
At the time I picked it up I lived in a state that had a lot of trails connected by sections of road and was going to plate it so I could ride a few good loops. I moved to ID and so haven't needed it with all the good off road riding out here so will likely keep it just in case I need it in the future.
-
Oh and thanks for the warning on the standard headlight kit. Good to know it heats up that much.
Just double checking, but is it the kit that looks like this? (this is the 2017 stickers but I believe its the same headlight assembly)
-
This is what the 300RR road kit looks like for reference.
