Try the posts under Beta headed..."Beta Evo 250 Low Compression Head Insert." The posts suggest different ways of softening the bike - a bit.
  2. The Gas Gas electric trials bike, the TXT-E is not happening either. After the international advertising push last year none have been produced for sale.
  3. We are losing one of the very few trials orientated retail businesses in the South of England, Jamsport near Farnham Surrey. My best wishes to Ian Allaway intrepid trials sidecar passenger, and the owner/manager of Jamsport for the last 34 years. The only person I know who can date a trials bike by touch! Thanks for all your enthusiasm, help, new bikes, accessories and cups of tea. All the best for the future. Mick M
  4. GWHY..."I look at a clutch on a petrol bike is torque control and the throttle on a petrol bike is speed control and when riding a petrol bike you mix the 2 to achieve nice smooth riding.." A useful comparison, thanks. The take off or slow speed control seems to be the Achilles' heel of the battery bikes, not so much the battery life itself. Perhaps that is why the new adult Gas Gas TXT-E and the Mecatecno Dragonfly Electric bikes (neither bike is on the market yet) have 'proper' clutches and gears as well. The new Electric Motion Sport has an 'electronic' clutch called a PELS system. It allows you to semi disconnect the drive as if slipping a normal clutch from the quite powerful single speed motor, but it's still a bit different to a normal clutch.

    2016 Evo 4T

After washing and before spraying with a WD40/GT70 style spray I suggests you blow the 'hidden' water off the bike with a suitable compressed air line. You will be surprised how much there is. It lies in the plastics' joints and all round the engine area, electrics and leads. A small paint spray type compressor should be enough. Wear safety glasses when doing it.
  6. Not on Gas Gas UK Website Today...
  7. Depends how you use the figures. New prices in the UK February 2018 today. 2018 300 Racing original UK price was £6250 (I am not using the £99 endings I've rounded up by a quid) 2018 300 Racing now is £5500, difference £750 2019 300 Racing now is £6400 price increase £150 year on year Reason UK pound value as much as anything going down against the Euro. An importer into a major market is likely to be obliged to take X no of bikes, if he has some over, he is going to discount them eventually. I personally bought a last year 300 Gasser that way and it was great for the average rider (me), I couldn't tell the difference to the next year one to ride, but I still had a brand new bike. I sold it for reasonable money so basically the importer had taken most of the hit not me. If you want to sell for better money, try a private sale, ok I realise in Scotland distances are a hassle. The fact a bike is new is more important than the minor annual differences overall. Keep up to date buying last years model every year - surely the Scottish (or Yorkshire) way!
  8. The Olympic skiers use different makes and the name is on the ski bottoms as they whip them off at the end of their runs and hold them up! No complaints there.
  9. "The outcome is a foregone conclusion so not much point holding the competition really." So no different from the Alpine skiing in that case, but interesting perhaps to the casual sports TV watcher, rather like me watching the Men's Downhill and Giant Slalom for a change. Also cost wise those Nacra catamarans in race form must cost a few bob more than a bike and van to put it in!
  10. I think once upon a time it was suggested by a well placed Brit that motor cycle trials should replace horses and show jumping in the Olympics. I think he was military background and riding Bultacos, so therefore it must have been late 1970s. Much much later (10-15 years ago) I heard a rumour that the FIM blocked an Olympic approach to showcasing Trials on the grounds of 'solidarity' with other motor bike sports as they were going to promote some sort of 'Moto Olympics ' themselves. The electric bikes are hardly more technical than the Olympic Laser Dingy and much more stadium friendly! I think the full price of a good basic Laser is £6,500 ish UK, compared with the EM Sport at £7,500. Also having tested one the new EM has quite an impressive performance in both its top two 'modes' so it and similar bikes would put on a decent show in the right hands. The Olympics is choc a block full of weird or obscure sports so one more wouldn't hurt.
  11. Some countries motor sports bodies may be able to cadge some funding out of regional tourism funds, or similar to ease the pain. A dryer climate probably makes the spectator number more secure as well. Anglesea sounds a cool place but as noted a long way out and a central location is surely more likely to guarantee better spectator support. Some events in Europe seem to be close to towns with the parking etc in the local infrastructure doubling up as a tourist booster, a bit like the Scottish and Fort William. Pity it can't be held in an almost urban context, no old quarries left in Leeds or Sheffield I suppose! Any motor sport friendly small towns with rocky surroundings near by?
  12. Mecatecno Dragonfly. Since I don't own the photos, I'll just post the link: https://www.mecatecno.biz/ Here you go production still not quite started!
  13. Achetez un Scorpa, ce sont de super motos!!
  14. New is always nice. 125s ridden by expert young riders are revved and revved and a new clutch shows this in the second hand bike. One other point, see if you find starting the Gas Gas a problem or not.
  15. Forget the dual map issue, I doubt, if there is one, that you will be able to tell the difference. The Scorpa Twenty 250 will be fine for you. The Scorpa Factory may look sexier but might (but not always) have a more aggressive basic electronic mapping. Some people (me included) find Gas Gas bikes harder to start due to their unusual kick start gear design. The novice going over the logs in the video on the Scorpa is not hitting the log properly yet (he's aiming too high) nor is he 'double blipping' the throttle to stop that awkward front wheel down landing on the other side.
  16. A bike for you if have decent hills in your trials area is a 250 model. Riding on steep hills is harder on a 125 as you have to rev up the engines so much and you will find it harder to learn good throttle control. If you are concerned about having too much power there are several ways to make a trials bike less aggressive such as lowering the compression, either with head spacers or low compression cylinder head inserts. Some people prefer a slow action throttle and a flywheel weight is often fitted. Even adjusting the fuel mixture has an appreciable effect. The 2016 onwards Scorpa 250 which is slightly French is decent and easy to maintain and the one I would buy. Or you could buy a real French trials bike - The Electric Motion Sport which has three power settings quite close to the performance of all three common bike sizes, 125, 250 and 300.
  17. A big improvement on EM's original bike and also even quieter! bulto 58's bike in the photo is the 'Sport' the 'Lite' is the older technology.
  18. "I used to get the cut throat sign from the wife until I got one of these." I think you could describe the torque as 'adequate' especially in 'red' mode.
  19. A softened 250 motor will still feel intimidating, even if you make it a bit gutless. I suggest you buy a recent 125 instead. Loads around. Doesn't matter which make. It will feel 'lighter' due to less engine torque reaction (I think). When she's happy with that, upgrade her!
  20. Full marks to Sherco for trying out stuff, but Cabestaney had to ride some weird bikes for Sherco, such as the 2008 320 4t and the 2010-on 2t back fuel tankers. Talk about a handicap. Finally when they got it right once more (2017 etc), he's up the road!
  21. Still going and the bikes are cheap!
  22. Turns fine, grips well, generally considered powerful although different issues of the bike (ie by year and by versions, works or standard) have quite different 'black box' settings so there is some year by year variety but quite subtle, the latter or even the 'works' ones not always more 'powerful.' f you have two or three similar Scorpas of different iterations you can swop the black box and you will feel the differences, mainly at the bottom end. There is a perception by some expert riders that they are more 'grounded' and less 'bouncy' than their Sherco sister bike although the differences in the two machines appear to be physically relatively minor. They are old school, simple, plenty of go, reliable and really do grip, far far better than older Shercos. I can't say I have noticed the 'cramped' riding comment by Lineally and I am average build 6 foot. The 300 has loads of go, maybe too much for fiddly stuff unless you are good at hopping etc. Much quicker off the mark than a Mont of either size (which catches up later!). Later clutches are lighter.
  23. As our Spanish Cousins make the bikes and, I understand, aren't to shabby on them either, what about a more 'hispanic' name, how about Las Motos Fiascos or maybe Motos Gymnastico or Motos Equilibrio!
