  1. Hi Guy's. There is a link to a page of Proper Classic Trials bikes from Northern Ireland ,from the late fifties early sixties, on my 2016 News Page. And a good example to what we wish we could get back in some form. Tried to put the link on here but it would not work. But it works on my site. Regards Charlie.
  2. Hi Guy's. Hi Furze . I did not want to jump in with both feet untilI had thought about it. And I also think it has come from the camshaft bush, If you go to my site and look at the "Duplicated C15F engine" page you will see that I had the same problem. Through lack of lubrication to the camshaft, the bush sticks to it and uses the crankcase as the bearing, This makes the camshaft hole in the crankcase bigger and the only cure is to turn up an oversize bush for the camshaft to run in. It is not that difficult if you have the use, or someone who has a lathe. Regards Charlie.
  3. Hi Guy's. A Picture Tells- - - - - - - - - - - - -.
  4. Hi Guy's. Hi OTF. You know I have done the page on the "British Rival"! well I brought the spare engine home to take some photos of it for the page. So I thought, I will spend an hour to see if I can find any parts for this engine , a gasket set and that is about it .So unless you know any different anyone? You can see why there are not many of the machines fitted with the Fichtel and Sachs 1252/7A engine still competing ? well you can't get the parts. Simple has that, so they may be all sat in sheds with the engines in boxes. Regards Charlie.
  5. Hi Guy's. Hi Hulmie. There Is a page on my website now. And I have one in the garage. I will try and get some shots done of this shortly. Regards Charlie.
  6. Hi Guy's. Deryk, Just see what happened by 2007 though when Gerald got a trick Cub, even Eric was amazed! Old Stoney Mountain IOM classic. Regards Charlie.
  7. Hi Guy. Hi OTF. Check out the "Twinshock" Page. Below Ken Sedgley, builder of the one time "British Rival".
  8. Hi Guy's. Just want to get this page back up, has OTF has not done his home work on the Classic Page. He has asked what a "British Rival" is? Ask Ken Sedgley OTF. Regards Charlie.
  9. Hi Guy's . Hi OTF. Would a "British Rival" be alright for your trials? has we have one lurking in a dust covered corner of one of the sheds. And I stubbed my toe on the spare Sachs engine under the bench only yesterday. Now it looks as though the "TRAD" trials thing is something that is not going to take off, I need to turn my attentions to something that might.? I can replace the space in the corner with the "Mini Otter" from last year. Regards Charlie.
  10. Hi Guy's. Hi TRF. Working on it. Who said I need Friends? Regards Charlie.
  11. Hi Guy's. Hi Deryk. Some old TT vinyl on the gramophone and a saucepan half full of Castrol"R" bubbling away on the old kitchen range and some of it spitting onto the hot surface. Absolute Bliss ! You don't get the same effect now-a-days with You-Tube and olive oil on your radiators. Well I am seventy so I can be stupid. Thats why I support "TRAD". Regards Charlie.
  12. Hi Guy's. Look I have spent many hours over the past couple of weeks scratching parts I should not scratch. Just to come up with a reason to explain why owners of period Trials machines have just stopped using them. Although we know they all still exist, they seem to be just resting in retirement in dusty sheds. Why? Well Mr Commercialism has taken over the Classic scene with expensive goodies from his shop needing to be shown to the rest of the still competing tribe. Let's walk tall he says and you need to be fit chaps, so loose a few pounds and the more the better. Polish your charms and trinkets to show you mean business, this should see off most of the opposition with there old and decreped irons. And they will be shy to come out and compete with us. So we will have won the battle. A few old warriors may still have some spirit left to try and rattle the perches in our cages, but if that happens we will appoint a spokes person that can stand up to Caesar and his friend. And after a few below the belt parries, they will just fade away again into the dust of time, and grime. And we will again show that the Sling-the Bling tribe are still the rulers of old Planet Feet-Up. Well it is late. Charlie.
  13. Hi Guy's. Hi OTF. Just put a straight edge across the wheel spindles in the Max King Book and the Greeves would be within the limit set. Just done a page on the Norman Trial machines that seem to have very much been forgotten , and these would come into the same category, as Greeves and they would be OK too. We are not trying to exclude any machine but to just place them into a sensible category, for the "TRAD" format to work. The whole idea is to get riders back out on machines that they love, to have fun riding them, once again. I thought you were thinking along similar lines with Peak Classic? Regards Charlie.
  14. Hi Guy's. I have spent best part of yesterday researching the "Norman". Breed, And you are right they, the trials bikes seem to have only been made in small numbers. There was a resurgence after the works bikes , six I think ran in the 1956 SSDT, and this is the time I am interested in. Why? Well it was a guy named Glynn Thomas that had a Norman B2 trials bike that made me want to get into the trials game. Story on my site. Being owned by TI from 1952? onwards did not help in the end, when the brothers retired in 1962 TI (Tube Investments) seems to have lost all interest in the breed, and were happy to see the name slip away. I must say I liked the simplicity of the design of the machine, although the last B4C frame was the only welded construction with what looked like twin seat tubes, the cast lug frames on the previous generations were very pleasing to the eye. And you know the old saying if something looks right it most usually works right. Now a replica Norman might be the New James or Bantam? Regards Charlie.
  15. Hi Guy's. Mike I agree lacing wheels is not easy a real brain teaser. Just watch some of the chopper builds for the bike in the USA and it is spoking the wheels and Tig welding where they always blow it. A simple tip to just change the rim on a hub is to tape the spokes together in twos it makes life more difficult to re insert the spokes but just pushing them into there holes and only just starting the nipples it can be done. Take photos of every operation on strip down and rebuild, then you have a reference . The worst hubs I have found to spoke are the Triumph Cub - BSA Bantam and the rear one is the most difficult. Although you can get spoke sets for these of the right size, be careful if the rear hub as been widened because this will make the spokes in the kit to short. The main problem is the slots on the small flange side (speedo drive side), They keep falling out sir, cure start some self tappers between each pair of spoke in the slot, until you have them all through the holes in the rim,and pinched up. Tighten spokes a little at a time, or you will find that you have always over tightened one side. You can true a wheel in a swinging arm sat in a bench voice with some taped on spokes as markers. Practice lacing on an old cycle wheel, you will soon work out the lacing patterns, by just counting between each run. The best thing is when you have completed it successfully is that sheer feeling of satisfaction,of conquering the art. Regards Charlie.
  16. Hi Guy's, Deryk. I have come up with one simple rule to determine if a bike should be classed as "Traditional" or not. A string-line, Staff, or Laser beam, shall be en-lined from the centre of the front and rear wheel spindles, if the engine crankshaft centre is more than 1"inch above this line the machine will be classed has a "Special". This is with the machine unladen, but a full tank of fuel will be allowed. No Shrader valves on the forks , or deflated shocks on the rear (if fitted). Guys, just let us know how you feel about this suggestion by just clicking the Like this button. Regards Charlie.
  17. Hi Guy's. Hi Baggie. Thank you so much for the story, and look after that treasure you have. And if you get to meet "May" say hello from me as part of the wonderful British Trials Machine Heritage that we still have and need to respect. Respect Charlie.
  18. Hi Guy'a Hi Baggies, The unwanted stock of these frames were Bought by "Fraser Honda" from Redditch Uk. And Honda engines of various CC's were fitted. (photo later). You could have a machine that is very near one of a kind? Regards Charlie.
  19. Hi Guy's. Hi BSA4life. I will do a page on my site about the Jialing JH125L rear wheel, and how to fit it into a BSA swinging arm ETC. I will try and get It done tomorrow for you OK. Regards Charlie.
  20. Hi Guy's. Hi Rod, Thanks for your support, I will get in touch with the Stratford Club and see if we can't get the Clerk of the Coarse on the Sidecars side. Do you think if we had sympathy from him and he put some "Traditional Trials sections with NO silly down hill round a tree sections ETC.together. All the "Barrow" boys could try and give him an entry similar to the Sam Seston DK Mansell trials of old? This would shock the Classic Trials Nation into support for Traditional Trials. Are you with me guy's ? We know the plots are sat in sheds, so get them out for a Day of Fun and camaraderie in the Cotswolds. Pete ,I hope you are reading this! Lets do it for Ron. Regards Charlie.
  21. Hi Guy's , Hi Will. I use YamahaTY 175-250 front hubs in all of the "Britshocks" I have built? Well they work. and they are at the right price. If you want to be picky use Honda Step through C50-90 front hubs they were about before that Deryk cut off point. And you can buy New for £60 For back Wheels I now use Jialing JH125L complete wheels New for £100 and £40 for New back plates complete with shoes. Sprockets are £17. I am not going to preach, because there is NO point, YOU know what you have in mind when building up your bike or converting it. But ask yourself, do I really need to spend that sort of, Cash? Do your home work. Regards Charlie. (Traditional) now.
  22. Hi Guy's, Hi BSA For Life. Although the Quadrant looks the same , the shaft is shorter, So unless you follow my Guidelines on replacing that shaft NO. It is still quite a process, but if that is all you can get, and replacement shafts are now available , this could get you out of trouble. Let us know how you get on. Regards Charlie.
  23. Hi Guy's, Hi Will, Do you know, I will try and throw a chair on one of the bikes don't know what until I think about it, And do the Sam Cooper Union Jack Trial, In May. I hope the Stratford Club Clerk of the coarse reads this though? And you can't tell me there is no sections that were used in the late fifties early sixties available in the Cotswolds. We can only hope Will and there may be a full sidecar entry, just what we need. Regards Charlie.
  24. Hi Guy's. Sorry, It was the Genie. Spirit thing, A diversion to get the page back up. But Patrik has more spirit than most, and rides his bikes for FUN.The nus. Regards Charlie.
  25. Hi Guy's. Hi Steve, See if you can put a picture of the bike on, Thats the only way we can see what you have. Regards Charlie.
