  1. Hi Guy's. Hi TRF. OK quick run through. First you need a NH 350 bottom end. with everything in New or good order. You need to drill and tap a fifth stud hole for the Mick Dickinson short alloy barrel. You now need to try and find a HT VH cylinder head ,near impossible now, so you will have to buy a newly cast one. You then need to find a Yamaha XT 350 piston or one with the same measurements. A month of meticulous machining and assembly and you may have a Scottish winning motor. PS and a BT-H electronic magneto. and Villiers S22 carb. Regards Charlie. Sorry Jon you got there before me. edit because I was to late , always am.
  2. Hi Guy's. Hi Arie, Glad you like the little "Mini Otter". I need to get the second one finished to be able to price a frame up, I have someone, interested in making some for me if we can finalise the design. I still have a vast interest in the project, but I am now, just taking it slowly, to see what pans out with new rules etc over here. It seems that the rest of the world just except the project for what it is, a way of building a cheaper "Classic Styled" little machine for every one to enjoy. Thanks again for the interest, in the project, I like what you are doing too. Merry Christmas Charlie.
  3. Hi Guy's. I should get along to Burycliffe if you can for OTF's last trial of the year. You never know who may turn up after the disclosures on this site this week. I know that Guy in the photos was at Burycliffe with Mick Andrews and a certain Hub manufacture'r. And I am told that he is very keen to ride in the New trials classes at the Peak Classic next year. Anyway a Merry Christmas Guy's and OTF. Charlie.
  4. Hi Guy's. Have you, seen Guy on a down-hill mountain bike? This guy is just a Star, and will make "Classic Trials" into one of "The things to do", If we encourage him to show a real interest. One of the "Young Guns" companies like "Hope Technology" behind him and sponsoring the event also helps, Just spend a few minuets to take a look at the current "Cycling" scene, to see that we should get onto this band- wagon while we can. And the more we encourage the younger element to get interested in the current Classic Trials scene the better, and this is one way of going about it. Happy Christmas Guys, and a "Classic Trials" New Year. Charlie.
  5. Hi Guy's. Wow look at this,Guy Taking Practicing Seriously. ( A Works Dab.) And only the first time on a trials bike. Regards Charlie.
  6. Hi Guy's. Could it be program two? Is this Guy? taking a trials lesson with the Magical Mick Andrews? Regards Charlie.
  7. Hi Guy's. Are you sure it is not a "Bariel"? I was speculating that the first program covers Guy, machining all the new parts for the build in the "Factory' and the assembly of the bike, the New front forks will only need fitting because they are already in production. It would be good to see Guy lacing the the new rims to the AW Racing front and back hubs. and helping to cast the New Head and barrel at the foundry. PS, Forgot about the visit to the F1 carbon fibre factory to make the tank ,fork sliders, and rear guard stays. Should be a good first program. The second would cover Guy practicing and getting the low down from the stars of "The Scottish Two Day" trial at the beginning of May. One thing is certain, Guy will put every effort into his build, and ride, like he does with every thing he does. And again the real winner is the "Classic Trials" scene. Looking forward to the trial now. Regards Charlie. edit to add.
  8. Hi Guy's. Rob Ring, Alan Whitton. Regards Charlie.
  9. Hi Guy's. Don't be so sure about a Special price, this is Summer time and the fares are always more expensive. (And this is a New event for the Island) If you want to go to this wonderful Island "Book Early", or you may be disappointed. I may try and get there, already booked for the Classic Two Day. But one or two of my bikes will be in the entry. Regards Charlie.
  10. Hi Guy's. Is it right that Guy Martin is down to ride a BSA Otter? We can only dream! Gud stuff anyway, Classic trials will be the winner. and we know Guy is "Fit" for the job. First Class. Regards Charlie.
  11. Hi Guy's. If you think you would love a holiday in June to do the Sammy Miller round, you need to book with the Steam Packet now to get any discounts ,on a van with say four bikes. You will need to ring the company for a van fare. The summer fares are more expensive though so budget about £280 return for the ferry. It will be more the longer you leave it. There will probably be camp sites available, as it is just after the TT. Regards Charlie.
  12. Hi Guy's, Look I think I am right in saying? all your Dad really needs is a computer that He has a e-mail address too, and he has the ability to get onto Trials Central's front page in the top right hand corner ,there is a link to ORR-e, if the subscription is made through this computer, all he needs to do is to click onto it, and this will take him to the latest addition and a list of all the other 33 issues. I still think a desk top is the best way to go, and is far more simple to drive than an I pad etc. The old ones are the best hey Deryk. Good luck and a Happy Christmas, and Enjoy. Regards Charlie.
  13. Hi Guy's. I found one of mine blocking a gap in a hedge to stop the sheep straying! Perhaps I should not have let the sheep out? Merry Christmas. Charlie.
  14. Hi Guy's. I remember Taylor-Dow manager (and expert trials rider) John Gleed riding his D1 BSA Bantam competition, about Banbury all week doing errands and collecting spares. And then showing us at the time young lads, how to ride a trials bike in sections on the little bike,at the week ends, and I can never remember the bike failing once. and the bike did get well used, and John would set off in what ever of the three gears it was in at the time. "Simples" Edit to add a thought. Perhaps a class for "THREE" speed Bantams would be a good way forward,or backward as the case may be. Regards Charlie.
  15. Hi Guy's Jon. I have bored out an old concentric and turned down one of the cheapo Mikuni's to fit inside, you can even machine out the concentric bowl to fit the better Mikuni unit inside. It is just like fitting the Bulto ETC, forks into Norton sliders. you can disguise most parts if that is your desire. Don't ever look under one of my tanks, because you will see the wires for the ECU coming out through the spare fuel line. Nearly got copped on that one once. Then I also made a big mistake by leaving the Aspen fuel in it original can, and was caught pouring this into the tank, I said I had the ethanol in another bottle. To put in so that I was not cheating. Regards Charlie.
  16. Hi Guy's. Your not saying that Burlen have some collaborated connection with the Yorkshire club then? Seems strange they just bring out a Carb that will fit the bill so to speak, and the Club rules get changed. Regards Charlie.
  17. Hi Guy's. So what difference putting a Concentric back onto this bike , is going to change the overall appearance ? Regards Charlie.
  18. Hi Guy's. What they should have banned was the use E10-15 fuel because in a concentric mono block Carb this fuel containing Ethanol causes more problems and expense, than being politically correct by fitting these carbs rather than a cheap carb made in Japan that tends to overcome this problem. Have you seen the price of ultrasonic cleaners? well you need to add this expense on as well if you are going to insist on the use of Amal carbs. Then there is the matter of striping them down and rebuilding them with a new repair kit every time. Do we actually think now-a-days? or do we just go along with the flow, of being conned ? Regards Charlie.
  19. Hi Guy's. Just Started a page on the "Otter" site. About The Dan Shorey Sherpa "N" UBW 677, If you are interested. Regards Charlie.
  20. Hi Guy's. I think I am right to say that when it came down to frame dimensions and angles Mr SH Miller did is own thing . And I also think that he got the hacksaw out to the Sherpa N to make it steer and feel just like the Ariel GOV 132. The steering head angle was unique to him, has were the yokes he had cast for GOV after cutting up the Ariel/BSA yokes and then re braising them to get them to what he wanted. to make patterns. Yes I have owned a Bulto for a while, but when I had finished rebuilding it, I took one ride around the yard , and said get it sold, I could not ride that, It just felt all wrong to me and to long in the steering. Each to there own. Regards Charlie.
  21. Hi Guy's , Nigel it was called being British and knowing better than the Minion's that you employed! Wrong on all counts has we youngsters said at the time. Wake up man can't you see that the Japanese know more about copying British bikes and making them better? Then the Spanish did the same to the trials bike industry. We are British and we will never learn Yha . Charlie.
  22. Hi Guy's. Hi GG. Yes in 1962 going forward Dan Shorey was a "Works" racer for Bultaco and was on very good terms with the family. And was the first to ride the 196 cc Race bike, that was instigated by Ken Martin. This was a Kart engine, And don't forget that these Kart engines were the biggest earner for Bultaco at the time. Regards Charlie.
  23. Hi Guy's. You know the story now? Well just a recap. Before Sam decided to do anything about the approach from Bultaco, he came along to a back alley in Banbury to try the machine below. This was Dan Shorey's play toy for the winter months to help him keep fit. We did a lot on this Sherpa N to try and and make it better has a one day trials machine. However there were a lot of faults with the bike and the gears that have been mentioned were a pain at braking and I seem to remember a special set was sent to try and solve the problem. Wheel clearance and mud blocking was a problem as were the forks. But the silencer was the biggest pain, in the end we cut it in half and removed most of the internals. Anyway Sam must have thought that the machine had potential because he signed on the dotted. and the rest is history. Charlie.
  24. Hi Guy's. Derek,Very interesting you see you learn a New thing everyday don't you. The Old ones are the best! You are so right about not many are "seriously involved" ? well on TC that is. The real problem Deryk is that not many of our generation are into using computers like you and I do, and I am sure that ORRe would have twice as many followers if more late sixties seventy year olds, were able to use a machine and to view the mag. and these pages. Perhaps we can start a campaign for Christmas, to get sons and daughters of "Old Trials Riders" from this period to take there I-Pads etc along to visits to there parents at this time and show them what they are missing. even pay for a subscription for ORRe as a pressie perhaps. Regards Charlie.
