If I had to take a guess, I would first say weight, and also not being convinced like some of us on here, that EFI is the way to go. I do remember when the Sherco first came out there was a statement made that keeping it simple for the consumer was a concern.

As of Sat AM my time, which is about 4pm for you, no email has arrived here. Maybe try again and make sure all the spelling is right, don't know what to say mate.

What color, size and price??? Can you post a pic?

Nice to hear your update Chris. If you are enjoying the power and motor of the 3.2 in SoCal, I only wish you get to experience it in very slippery conditons. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, my 3.2 grips far better than anything I have ever ridden. It is like cheating! It makes me smile everytime I ride it, and in the end, isn't that what it's all about?

Better yet Andy, just wait and see if one Mr. Camozzi is going and takes some nice pics of the event, post's them on another site. You can just post them on TC and say they're your own!!

I guess my point is that unless you are an expert/Pro rider, all this infatuation with "the latest" greatest bike is really rather secondary to some actual riding skill. I learned this only because I have been riding my 85 300 Fantic twinshock alot in the last year, and was able to do it quite handily all the way up to advanced lines. Yes, no matter what level you are at, a bike that is easier to ride will make you save some points. But, sometimes on these threds( that ones for you Lane) you see folks get bent out of shape about what bike is the best. Hey, they are all good, AND, unless you are Bou, Raga, or Lampkin, they are WAY better than us!!
I feel my Sherco 4T makes me a better rider because of the way it grips, the powerful motor, and it just feels right for me, which in turn gives me a lot of confidence.
When Bernie used to do his schools, he would make a point of making a difficult section, and then when people were having trouble with it, jump on the oldest (usually a twinshock if it was around) antiquated bike, and clean the section right in front of everyone just to show it could be done! hell, I would guess that a 200 or 250 is plenty bike for 80% of people who ride trials. But we all crave the lightest and most powerful. To each his own!

A very insightful post Woody! Any relation to Steve " Woody" Hole or just a coincedince?? First off, Ihave no axe to grind with Montesa's at all. They are very well built bikes. Just not my cup a tea for several reasons as has been discussed already. The whole EFI vs carb debate is so rediculous to me as I believe that 95% of us who actually buy bikes, have no real issue with the difference between carbs and EFI as far as making us better rider's. Most who read this website, myself included, have more technique issues, rather than technology issues, and I would dare to say that our level of riding would not change too much even if we were riding bikes of 10yr old technology!
That being said, I absolutely love my Sherco 4T!!! I have never ridden or owned a 4T before this. It is light, powerful, and grips better than any other bike I have ever owned!! The fact that is has a prehistoric carb on it will not detract from the fact that it is fun to ride and I believe makes me a better rider!!
Cheers, Steve

Billy, never mind the BS mate, where the hell are you these days my little vertically challenged buddy!!!???

Copey, don't forget the one thing I forgot to mention too, in the differences between the Mont and the Sherco. All the ones I see around my parts have had a couple of the restrictors taken out of the exhaust to try and get them to breath a bit and get some power. Loud to the point of being a tad obnoxious!!!!! Sorry, but for me if I just sit down and check off the pro's and cons of each, out of the box, the Sherco has won. I think the Mont is a good bike for sure, but to me, to pay top dollar and then have to pay another couple of grand to make it an expert bike, not for me anyway.EFI or not, if I have to spend $$$ on big bore kits and exhaust mods etc, what is the point?
-
I agree with Ishy's statments totally. I have only had my 3.2 Sherco for a few months now and I am still learning lots about it. I can defenitely say though that it does NOT stall easy, nor does it have a flat spot. As Ishy states, an 1/8th turn can change things dramatically with the fuel screw. Both the carb and EFI do have there own merits. I like the carb better for the reasons that Woody states. I can't stand having the idle so bloody high, and on the clutch constantly. The 3.2 has the torque and power to pull you out of any situation. I rode a Mont a fair bit, but in the end had too many dislikes, and it is heavier and not as much power!! No doubt it is a well built bike and lots of folks like them, good thing there is more than one to choose from!
-
Chris, my bike has the flat slide Dellorto on it! Has a fuel mixture screw instead of air screw and is quite sensitive and works great! Sendus a pic of you on the bike.
-
I have no idea what jets are in mine, but as the ex-Paxau bike that it is, it runs perfect as is!!! I am having so much fun on it and being continually amazed of everything that it can do well! I think the only thing I will eventually do is buy an Ohlins rear shocker for it, maybe an early Chirstmas present! Enjoy Chis, and pray for some rain and you will really enjoy it!
-
Chris:
I went the opposite of what Ishy did with my 4T> Stock rear sprocket is 42T and I geared up to a 40T. I find it much better because I can use 1st gear, 2nd most of the time, and 3rd for anything big!!! Also, 4th turns into the trail riding gear, and 5th is brilliant for motoring down the roads.

I have also heard that even though the parts for the Xispa are made in China, that they are indeed assembled in sweat shops with child labour, somewhere in Indonesia. You guys make up your own mind, but it seems like these things are already tainted!

Really well all in all! I rode extemely well considering it's been 2yrs since Ihave ridden an event in expert since I spend most of my time now as minder for my son! he had a good day riding novice in the AM against all adults and getting a good 2nd place. Fairly tough sections for him, but he was up to the challenge!
I had a great day, and honestly, the 4T suits my riding style better than any other bike I have ever had! Mega grunt and traction. Sections were good, fairly slippy in places, but way too much hopping for this old guy! I was leading the event going into the last lap, had a bad call on one section for a 5, then on the last section got a stick lodged in my front wheel on a big huge hill climb that I had been cleaning, and ended up paddling out for a 3. Loop scores reflected it too, 9-8-17. Had fun though, felt like I rode really well considering, and best part of all, think I turned a few heads riding the 4T.
I had the only cleans on a couple of the tougher sections which was a big confidence booster, most cleans, and the lowest possible loop too. Killer to get burned on the last loop, but I was there for fun, and accomplished that!

I have had my 3.2 4T for a couple of months now and love it! Heavy....................not likely! The lightest of all the 4T's I would be willing to bet!! Motor is the most amazing thing I have ever ridden!! Without a doubt, the most power of any of the 4T's right out of the box!! I have instantly had my confidence with riding this bike, it's grips like nothing else I have ever ridden. I ride expert class by the way!

Ross:
Well, I can say yes to most of your questions. We have competitions all year round, and if you are from out of town there is usually camping available too! Montesa questions should be directed at Dan at Dallan Motorsports in Cobble Hill. If you go the the My Controls section on the header you can leave a personal message for any registered member on here. Send one to Joostio, who is in Courtney and is part of the group who get together every weekend. He also has a post on the Trials Canada site with details of where they meet and what times. There is actually a good selection of aftermarket parts on here and around the US. What are you looking for specifically?? Feel free to email me at teamfracy@shaw.ca

Hi Ross:
I am in Shawnigan Lake just north of Victoria. We have two clubs down here that run events thoughout the year. The VMC in Victoria own a great piece of land 172acres of trials paradise, and we also have a huge piece that we lease here on the west side of the lake. There is also a great group in the Courtney /Comox area that get together every weekend. Let me know specifiacally what you are looking for in the way of info?

Personally, I don't see how it can be any other bike other than the TY250 mono. It changed everything, and instantly gave the privateer a better bike than the works guys!!!

The Dunlop tires clearly indicate that Copemech was only consulted on most designs!

Chris:
Hey thanks for that bit of info, I am glad the lad who sold the bike to me is still riding at least! I am totally jazzed about the bike. Some I know lowered the gearing in an attempt to lessen the incredible grunt this motor has, but I actually geared it up a bit. It makes 1st actually usuable, 2nd the most used gear, and 3rd the assault gear. But the neat thing is that the power is so elastic. Grunt off the bottom and as well can be revved to the moon when climbing. I have noticed already that riding my regular practise sections in very wet conditions, the bike makes them so easy to get grip it's just stupid. A lot less effort about hooking up. That being said, I have a special set of Hebo pegs on that are set back just over half inch. The riding position is perfect for me which is really important. Just feel so comfortable on it, and very pleased. I will get another one!
PS. Get a ride on a Sherco for sure, you will be surprised I think!

Well I am a recent 4T convert and after almost a month and a half, I have to say I am having so much fun! I really studied comments by many guys I respect who all said the same thing. it will take time to get used to it so be patient...... Never ridden a 4T in my life, so I really feel like I had an open mind to it. yes, it is totally different. But, I really feel for the type of terrain we ride here in the Pacific Northwest of North America where it its wet 75% of the time, there is nothing that can grip like this bike. By the way I ride the much maligned Sherco 4T. Wow, what a motor!!!! It just really suites my riding style and I can't say enough about how it gets traction. Very happy!
