  1. Here you can find a simple -but highly effective- tool for the magneto removal. It was made for a Cota 247, but the idea can also apply to your Mh 200.
  2. If you want to make a complete work, change the old condenser for a modern one. Much more reliability. You can see how at http://montesakingscorpion.blogspot.com.es/2011/11/condensador-de-electronica-en-la-cota.html (It's a spanish text, but Google will do a decent job with the translation).
  3. Just clean the cold start jet. It is located at the bottom of a hole in the float chamber bowl. Please be careful with the screwdriver, because the jet can be easily damaged if you don't use the right one.
  4. :-) Don't forget to clean the shaft and the gear with alcohol when reassemblig it! An impressive puller, indeed.
  5. I agree, dadof2 but the first post was about a "smoky 348". I always change both seals when in doubt. It's worth the effort.
  6. Don't take a look. Just change it. I've been working on those engines for many years, and the symptoms are clear. It's a 2 pounds (and one hour) fix if you have the proper tools.
  7. You'd better strip the whole engine and perform a careful rebuild. Take into account that the bearings were mounted after being heated, to have and adequate fit with both sides of the crankshaft. If you simply extract them by heating the whole engine and after that try to set up the new bearings by pressing them against the crankshaft, the result can be a damaged crankshaft or even an unbalanced one. These engines are not difficult to repair, if you know how to do it.
  8. With those symptoms, I'd check (and change) the left crankshaft seal. Forget the carb. Your crankshaft is being filled with the primary transimission oil ... and extra air that makes your carburetion too lean and generates tons of white smoke.
  9. +1 The 349/4 (as it's known is Spain) is a fantastic bike. It is smooth, has a fantastic frame (first "closed frame" after the 247), and is really competitive for classic trials. And if I can ride it at 50, sure that a 18 guy will be able to enjoy it. :-)
  10. 75 euros here: http://www.motoretro.es/product_info.php/cPath/27_31_65_223/products_id/734
  11. It's a bit tricky, I'm afraid. Maybe you can find some help in the Clymer.
  12. If I'm not mistaken, there were two Cota 200 series. The first one used an (strange) Amal 720 and the second one the L2624/402. You'll need these jets: 135 Main 20 pilot 106 Needle jet 2B1 needle and a number 3 cutaway for the throttle slide. You should also change the o rings of the screws.
  13. Just a small comment on gearbox oil: it should be API GL4. API GL5 oils will corrode the "yellow metals" inside the gearbox because of their sulfur additives.
  14. Montesa trials crank ends are exactly the same for 247 and 348/349 series, but the weight is different. In my opinion (and I've seen a lot of Motoplats because I've been involved in the developement of a CDI ignition for big Cotas) is not usual to re magnetize the flywheel. Most of the flywheels can provide a strong spark even after many years of service ... if the electrical system is in good shape. I'd check if the wires are in good shape (flexible and with no cuts on them), the kill button is working properly, etc. You can even use a modern electronic component instead the classic condenser. You can take a look here: http://montesakingscorpion.blogspot.com.es/2011/11/condensador-de-electronica-en-la-cota.html It's written in spanish, but Google translate will have the job done.
  15. RM Lightning is a variable timing CDI ignition, so you'll need a leaner carburation. Maybe 115 to 120 for the main jet and 30/35 for the pilot jet. At least, that's the best combination we've found for the 247's ... and the rider who had that work done was Miquel Cirera, as you can see in http://montesakingscorpion.blogspot.com.es/2013/03/aprendiendo-que-es-gerundio.html By the way: I found this post this morning while I was looking for information about Montesas. I am not just a pilot, but also one of the owners of RM Lightning, so if the moderators want to erase this post, I understand it.
  16. If I'm not wrong, frame colors were: 1.- White from 21M0001 to 21M2999 2.- Gray from 21M3000 to 21M13106 3.- Black from 21M13107 to the last unit.
  17. Both series of Montesa Cota 200 had red frames. Montesa never sold a chromed frame, but the Cappra Metisse. And those bikes were Rickmans in fact.
