  1. Unfortunately we have had to cancel the trial at Bracken Rocks scheduled for Sunday 28th November due to sheet ice and snow on the access road making the venue inaccesable. I would like to apologize for any inconvienience or dissapointment caused but i have tried over ten tiems to get up the drive and even with traction control the ice is too bad preventing access. On the last two occaisions my vehicle slid backwards down the drive and out into the road the brakes rendered innefective because the ice is that bad. Please watch our website www.peakclassic.co.uk for updates. If we can reschedule the event we will but as the season draws to a close that is looking highly unlikely. Again apologies for this but seriously the weather has beaten us and safety must come first.
  2. Already put an offer in on that one but i really need to find out if i can use the TY250A clutch basket i,ve managed to pick up. I've been told they need machining to fit but not what machining is required if any. Thanks Jon for the link.
  3. I've got a couple of problems with the TY250 twinshock i'm rebuilding concerning the clutch basket. Well lack of availability really. the baskets on two of the engines have broken "fingers" and i need to source a good condition replacement. Now i've managed to get hold of a clutch basket for a TY250A but mine is a later TY250d i think. Has anybody tried to fit the A clutch to a later model? does it fit? are any mods needed to make it fit? Anybody got a couple of good clutch baskets if not? please pretty please
  4. So what do we do long term ? I would assume most of us have repaired cases on our bikes. At some point this will probably be the straw that breaks the camels back and stops us using the bike. Long term prospects not looking good
  5. Thanks for the info guys. Here was me thinking they should have steel tanks. Funny how OSSA tanks fetch daft money by TY ones dont. Whatever i will get the dents massaged out and have them looking good in no time. As for the question Bo Damn youve discovered my cunning plan
  6. Just a quick question. Did all TY 250 twinshocks come with an alloy tank? I have been told that most came with steel tanks but i have just bought four TY250's, long story LOL, and they all have alloy tanks fitted. Just wondered if this was normal ?
  7. Speak to Ian at Classic Brake Services. Send him your old brake shoes and he will reline them. Make sure you ask him to fit oversize linings then machine them to suit the actual dia of your hub. Much much improved brakes result!!!
  8. Best and lightest and incidentally "Scottish acceptable" are the ones that Alan Whitton Race Engineering do. Billet alloy as are the brake plates, s/s cams and levers the dogs danglies. He can also do you alloy spindles to suit. I have them fitted to my James and with soft linings machined to suit are superb.
  9. "What point spread to shoot for? 1 point per section for the winner, 30 sections=30 points" Hmmm from a personal point of view i feel youre way off here. when i lay out a trial i would look to have the winner of each class finish on less than 10 and more like 5 or 6 thats a 10 section course over 4 or 5 laps. 30 points from the winner of a class i feel is making the course too hard for the majourity of the field. We regularly get 50+ riders at our events ok not huge entry but in these "tighten your belt times" liveable and at least we dont make a financial loss.
  10. On a serious note from our perspective over here you do seem to have an insurmountable problem in the US. The country is tooooooooo big. Let me give an example. Locally i never need to travel more than 30 miles and most times less to go to a trial every weekend. I only ride Classic and Twinshock clubs events and ride twice every month, could ride three times but whatever, never having to travel more than an hour to an event. Personally speaking and this is also bourne out by entries from my own club when we occaisionally organise an event a bit further away, approx 40 mile trip 1.5 hrs, only a few bother to turn up. I couldnt envisage traveling the distances you guys have to. I cant see you ever winning the battle with that millstone round your neck gate trials or no gate trials. Shame but thats probably why trials never really made it BIG across the other side of the pond.
  11. Perhaps but the Sprite Goldfinger that i bought after the Saracen seemed not to suffer as much as the Saracen with grounding out. Sections have changed a lot since then also and 10.5" just isnt anywhere near enough clearence nowadays. I would say 13" min. Footrest position back in the days when the world was in black and white was also miles out and was probably one of the biggest contributors to a lot of bikes feeling top heavy. Didnt help with balance, steering and grip either. Sadly back then people were too much like sheep and didnt analyse enough resulting in the bikes just following the herd re footrest position, ground clearence, steering angle etc etc. Now we know better and should never compromise on form over function. The bike is there to do a job and i am constantly refining my bike to do it's job better. Just my humble opinion on the Saracen which to me even at the time felt needed development. Pretty but needed development.
  12. I notice that the motor has also been bored out to 290cc. What piston do you use?
  13. Err nowhere near Charlie. If i remember even Bessie the BSA had more than that. 10.5 is more green lane bike than a Trials bike. Dont get me wrong liked the Saracen, much better than the Sprite on offer at the time, but ground clearence was and is a serious issue to anybody thinking of riding one of them now, was then too thats why i sold mine.
  14. Wow you guys in the USA must really have problems. Glad i dont have to even consider all that. Good luck to you but it sure sounds complicated. Too complicated to me.
  15. Perhaps OSSA could sponsor a tree planting programme
  16. There's lots of things lurking in westyfields garage.
  17. Look forward to seeing the piccys I have fond memories of a brief relationship with an alloy barreled Sachs engined Saracen. Wish i still had her but remember she did seem to be a bit lacking in the ground clearence dept. Welcome to the madhouse
  18. I'm not nowhere near but i can tell i assure you. 4 p.s.i. rear IRC 6 p.s.i. front Michelin. 2 rimlocks in the rear 1 in the front.
  19. After talking to a friend of mine i think you will find that clothing sales are what they are really after. Old skool brand names are big business at the moment. All part of that retro movement. seen the price of a Belstaff or Barbour jacket lately
  20. Sorry might be my fault but i know M7 x 1mm is the size for the screws that retain the rear shocks but the bolt that goes up through the bottom of the front sliders to secure the internal damper rods is the bolt size i am after. Sorry if my original question caused any confusion.
