  1. And isnt the Scottish one "Ye'll nae be havin a sale soon will ye?"
  2. Thanks for the tip Woody. Will check it over at the weekend. That would probably be a better indication as to why the crack is there on some of them i've looked at. Simple enough job to just pop a helicoil insert in so never understand why people bodge threads. The crack would be along a stress line. Nice one. Must say all this about the rear wheel spindle bending is a new one on me. I ran MAR's for 3 years in the early 70's and never had a problem, thats basically why i've been after one for a while Nostalga it aint what it used to be , with the spindles. Actually never had a problem with them at all they were the most reliable of all the bikes i had.
  3. I've noticed quite a few MAR Ossas have had a weld repair to the ignition cover which seems to run diagonaly from near the rear top scrw down to just above the rear brake pedal. Mine has also. Why is this? Is it a weak point? Can you do anything? Dont seem to remember a problem in the early 70's Also seem to remember everybody cut them back as much as possible to help with cleaning and chain maintenance. So why do so many show signs of being welded?
  4. Peak Classic Trials Club held the final round of their Club Championship at Stathams farm Matlock Derbyshire on Sunday 13th Jan. The turnout of 47 entries enjoyed a very testing event made no easier by the cold and wet conditions making this less frequently used venue very muddy for a change. All Competitors found the going difficult with a lot of the placings decided by furthest clean tie decider resulting in a few disappointed faces. The tie decider fell in the favour of C Chell, BSA , in the expert class finishing on the same score as ex works rider Chris Milner, Cub, both losing 23 marks. The 50/50 route was won by B Dale, Cub, with a loss of 42 while the Clubman course was convincingly won by S Barnes also on a Cub on 18 marks lost. The next Trial will be at Burrycliffe Quarry on the 17th February and is round 1 of the Clubs 2008 Championship. Following this a presentation of the 2007 awards will take place at the Miners Stand. The Club wishes to thank Barry and Karen Micklethwaite, who are standing down from running the Club, for all their excellent work in the past and would also like to extend a warm welcome to the new Club secretary Martin Booth who has now taken over the reins. 5. Do you have the website addresses? I had managed to get it down to around
  6. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I've always liked the old Paras motto P.P.P.P.P.P. so really just intend to carry whatever fits into a bum bag spare levers, cables, plug and a chain link and splitter and keep me fingers crossed Main concern will be fuel but will see. Alans having some "big tanks" built but as i'm in the process of moving that may not be possible for the one event. After the first day give te old girl a good service and check over. After all it's only two consecutive days of what would be a Classic event. Still open to any suggestions though
  7. Is that why Big John always gets an entry ? It seems that they do but should they? Personally i would say they should take their chance in the ballot the same as everybody else but that would dissapoint a lot of people and result in less spectators and less programme sales which is a major source of income for the club so on balance probably a necessary "evil" ? Difficult one really.
  8. This year i have been lucky enough to get an entry. As i have never ridden before in Scotland, competitively that is got stuck in a green bog last year just trying to get to my section to observe, what tools bits etc do you/should you carry round with you? Also what do you prepare differently if anything on the bike? Serious answers preferred but i'm sure old Slappers will have something to say as usual
  9. Just organised my start permit with the ACU. Cost was
  10. F.W i W. I'm slightly younger than my start number, my waist is also slightly less than my start number but i'm beginning to think my IQ is about the same as my start number Anybody know where i can get some ex works, pre 65 of course, stabilisers for the James from ?
  11. Thanks i was just wondering if the details were available anywhere. Looks like there will be a strong contingent from Derbyshire. Ey up my duck
  12. From memory i think it's 230 cc and i think you can use a Triumph Trident piston but dont quote me on that. Best bet is to ask Tricky Micky or ring Alan Whitton as he seems to be involced at some point with most of the more cmpetitive Cubs about.
  13. However far you move the engine over dont forget to keep not just the sprockets but the wheels in line Oh yes and you of course can only move the engine so far as the exhaust port will foul the downtube
  14. How old is that boiler suit??? Wasnt it red when BJ bought it in the 50's
  15. Yep you need to be a member Shame that but last time i was a member the spam was a pain. Couldnt you post here? Would like to have read it.
  16. Always been the big achilles heel for cubs. Seem to remember they originally used a 3.50 rear tyre. On my old Cub i spaced the engine over and moved the sprocket over using a spacer ring but even then clearence will always be a problem. Showing me age now but always remember the lads in the late 60's riding through every puddle and bit of water they could find to help wash the mud out. A twig always seems to help too
  17. Me too plus 3 other guys from Midland Classic They are flying down to Madrid while i'm driving the van. Well taking the ferry acksherly But when we all get there we must make a small corner of the beer terrace Trials Central Spanish annexe Oh dear May is gonna be very very expensive. Then again you cant take it with you
  18. Hiya Mr tight git I'm at the other end of the field bashing all those rocks out of the way and scrubbing the moss off for the pros and yourselves. Number 66 but you'll probably recognise me as 99 cos i will be spending most of my time with the bike on top of me upside down. Whats really bothering me is those damn green bogs i got stuck in last year So catch up with yous in Kinlocleven Then a few weeks later cos "were all going on a Spanish trialling jolliday"
  19. Postieman arrived this morning. I'm in Now i believe there really is a Santa Now it's sunk in i'm pooing myself
  20. Srange reading your post. I know people who have taken advantage of each of the above and even know some who are exploiting more than three of the above to get an entry. At the end of the day though lets be honest we will ALL keep sending our entries in in the hope of gaining an entry even though the odds are so heavily weighted against us. At a rough guess the "normal" riders i.e. those who ride week in week out supporting the sport at grass root level are probably competing for less than 100 of the potential places. Pretty poor odds i am sure you will agree but we keep doing it. Oh well cest la vie. One last thing you say "I has to attract spectators" to tell the truth why does it have to attract spectators? A lot of people have said that to me but i've never really understood why. Oh well as usual "theres always another year" eventually those names will be too old and wont get an entry err then again i'll also be too old by then to
  21. Could also be worth checking the ignition timing? Does it have a pvl fitted ? Are you sure if it has that it has a 4 stroke pvl itted not a 2 stroke one as the advance curves are totally different. Worth checking.
  22. Thanks for that but a shame to have to wait till the very end to see real trials bikes in action
  23. Oi I'm a Classic with perfect weight distribution, ever seen a weeble?
  24. Thanks for the advice guys. OOOOOOH i do like the look of that Ossa on the Classic forum. Incidentally a lot of the "mods" on that bike are the same as the ones i was thinking of doing so looking promising. Dont want to get too radical as i have always liked the look of the Ossa MAR especially the Mk1 but just want to make her useable and pretty to boot Will post some piccys when i get a bit more done. Keep the posts and advice coming guys
  25. Thats uncanny Javier. I've just bought one and you are thinking about it Looks a beaut. Might just model mine on that one?
