  1. FWIW Cant see the tyres but assuming they are tubed NOT tubeless the only obvious parts are the carb, which is easy to correct, and the forks that might cause a problem. The purists may have appoplexy at the colour but we are supposed to broad minded nowadays A bike built to your own preferences and i am sure you are very proud of it. One question the footrests seem incredably low slung. How do you get on with them especially in ruts and over and around rocks? They lok like they would snag very easily but that may just be the angle of the photo. The onus on elegibility at the Scottish Pre65 is very much down to the entrant and only becomes a probem when somebody lodges a protest. Obviously the carb is a no no but otherwise ? Thaks for sharing anyway. Be interesting to hear "BJ the Judge" view
  2. Hope to see you there Eriksson please say Hi
  3. One other thing Eriksson and anybody else thinking of coming. Please come along and enjoy the atmosphere. There are other sections within easy walking distance of the car park. Please come along buy a programe and enjoy this Classic event but please please leave your bike at home. This event is under serious threat from non competitive riders riding along and around the route. If that is your intention then do not come you are not welcome and may possibly be the last straw and may even be the person who stops the event ever being run again. It's that important. Last year myself and Slapshot had to explain the facts of life to two idiots trying to wobble their trailies up to Pipeline. I doubt that any contributors to Trials Central do not know how serious the situation is but perhaps we can all pass the word to people who do not visit this forum that they are most welcome at Kinlocjleven but their bikes are NOT. Sorry to get on my soapbox but it's my first time competing in Scotland and i dont want it to be my last because some self centered brain dead moron causes the cloure of this great event. Said every year but theres always someone, sadly sometimes they are "friends" of riders in the event, who tries to get the event stopped.
  4. Coefficient of friction + better feel with cast iron IMHO plus i can choose the material that i have the shoes relined with
  5. I usually get the shoes fitted with oversize linings and then machine the linings to fit the diamater of the drum. Same principle just prefer to machine the shoes which are cheaper and easier to replace. One other thing prefer cast iron liners if poss.
  6. Or even help me carry it all Will post nearer the time perhaps have a Trials central get together? Thanks for the offer
  7. Thanks. Better start getting my list together then Need loads of bits so might as well pick them up there and save the entry and fuel as would only have had to pay postage anyway
  8. As i dont subscribe to TMX cos i'd sooner spend me money on me bike or something else Whens the show at Malvern on ? Normally early Feb innit? Anybody going ?
  9. Nice to see though the hand that rocks the cradle may have changed the attitudes at SM havent. Consistency thats what a thriving company needs
  10. BJ when was that kickstart actually made? what tyres are you using Nah only kidng mate you know i love a good natter. Strange innit how this subject gets us all to adopt positions possibly more than any other? At least i'm gonna be riding the same bike in Robregordo as the Scottish. Now theres another hot potato Well i need some excuse for you beating me again this year ? Actually you'll probably beat me at both events. But know what ? i aint bovvered cos i'm just there for the craik (appologies for the spelling).
  11. If it wasnt made pre 65 ?????? So youre all going to ride round on bare rims with no tyres then !!!! Sorry mate but where are you going to buy a Dunlop Trials universal 4 ply tubed tyre , hard as rock , from ???? If people just bother to think it out it just aint possible. Actually apart from being a good old chestnut to chew over endlessly does it really matter? Every idea i have heard you can drive a bus through if you put your mind to it. Sorry mate like your posts but even with your clubs tight rules, tighter than most, there are still people "crossing the line" We all knoe that but your Trials are still getting good entries, like the Scottish, and are still very enjoyable, also like the Scottish, by guys who just want to ride their creation err Pre 65 Trials bike
  12. One careful owner. Not too sure about the rest though
  13. There's always Simply Reds "Money too tight to mention"
  14. Might be worth a look or give them a ring. They were very helpful when i rang them about a barrel i had recently. http://www.dot-motorcycle-club.co.uk/
  15. OOOOPs bow to your superior knowledge Obiwan Mine must be an import then never mind. Didnt know you'd bought Dabsters old ride? Live and learn
  16. Think It's because they wanted the control pedals transposed to "Classic British" type layout. Just down to what you're used to i suppose? I agree with you BJ and have kept the alloy std r/h brake pedal on mine, doesnt seem to bother me swaping from l/h to r/h so perhaps i'm lucky, but wish i could stop the kickstart hitting the arm of the gear lever Nice resto BTW although the rivet counters will be on soon with "advice". tank, torque arms etc Just use it and enjoy
  17. Oh what the heck. Wasnt going to say any more but you all know what i'm like So what about the Montesa etc last year and some of the east european entries last year and this? How much do we all know about their elegibility / legality ? I've been around longer than i would care to admit but i wouldnt have the foggiest. Plus at what point do they say an entry has to be as manufactured? i.e. a Trials bike not a Moto Crosser. Are there recognised experts on Motobecane, sorry about the spelling, if someone wanted to enter on one? they look pretty Pre65 to me but who would know? Why not a converted Trail bike or even a modified Road Bike like ooh lets say the SHM Special made by a certain Samuel Hamilton Miller as seen at last years Classic and Dirt Bike show. How more Pre65 can you get but is it elegible? Would they let someone enter on it? It's such a difficult one. Lets be honest if they played by the book then there probably wouldnt be any entries. Vive la differance. There will always be people who feel agreived some rightly so but the Scottish will always be a one off with many people building a bike to Scottish spec just for the event then using a different bike or changing the bike back for the other 51 weeks of the year. Thats just the way it is. No logic to it. Just glad to be in
  18. Err and when did Marzocchi make theirs? OK think i get the point. Well dont really but pointless persuing any further. Whatever "rules" are rules Thought that was why but just thought i'd ask to make sure.
  19. I know this has probably been debated at great length many times before but what exactly is the problem with BSA/Triumph 4 stud forks? BTW i havent got any fitted but just wondered
  20. Does your bke have a cast iron barrel or an alloy one? Some alloy ones are machined from B25 barrels and may require a plateunder the bottom. If its a std cast iron barrel then a high comp piston shouldnt be a problem unless the cam has been mistimed or oversize valves fitted. Had aB40 myself and sometimes the marks on the cam are out. May be worth checking. One tooth is all it would take. Then again could just be tired valve springs and a bit too much revs? I used a std piston with an alloy barrel and two paper gaskets on the base. Std copper head gasket is fine. One other thing to check are the pushrods. Make sure they are not bent after the valves met the piston also that they are the correct ones as a lot of these engines have been rebuilt in their time from various parts which all look similar but vary slghtly i.e. C15, B25, B40, B44, B50 etc etc Best source of information i found was Rupert Ratios book which comes up regularly on e bay.
  21. 66 now make sure you say Hi especially if i'm buried under the bike at the time
  22. Thanks Donald thats what i was thinking too. If not i can always nick some fuel out of your Beta assuming you've put some more in since last year? Seem to remember you running on fumes back to the car park
