  1. The Pre65 Scottish doesn't need: Bikes with parts that are not acceptable Bultacos Montesas Ossas 100% Agree John Vinnie I respect your opinions guys so why do the organisers allow entries from the Spanish contingent on them then????????
  2. Peak Classic Trials Club Round 7 Club Championship Carsons Farm 12 August 2007 A good turnout of 44 riders contested the 7th round of the Peak Classic Trials Club championship at Carsons Farm near Matlock on Sunday. Against expectations the weather held till the end of the trial and the expected rain took pity on the entrants. Carsons Farm can get very slippery when it rains so the sections may have seemed a bit on the easy side for some but a good days sport was had by all with a happy bunch at the finish with clean bikes for once. Four laps of 10 sections were completed mostly tight turns over tree roots with the odd rock step thrown in to catch any lapse of concentration. With all the sections cleanable the results were as follows. British Bike Expert route 1 J Fountain James 1 mark (furthest clean) 2 P Carson Cub 1 mark 3 D Cooper Greeves 3 marks Twinshock Expert route 1 C Milner Bultaco 1 mark 2 S Garlick Armstrong 5 marks 3 C Garlick Honda 8 marks British Bike 50/50 route 1 D Carson James 2 marks 2 B Micklethwaite Francis Barnett 11 marks 3 H Stannistreet James 30 marks Twinshock 50/50 route 1 C Braddock Fantic 5 marks 2 A Weston Yamaha 14 marks 3 J Wilson Majesty 15 marks British Bike Clubmans route 1 P Elvidge Greeves 2 marks 2 P Ward Cub 5 marks 3 S Barnes Cub 5 marks Twinshock Clubmans route 1 R Mycock Bultaco 2 marks 2 M Booth Aprillia 4 marks 3 T Sammon Majesty 17 marks
  3. Come on surely I'm not the only one to snap a rim? Probably not but i remember the photo and very spectacular it was too
  4. Worth checking the condenser as well. I had exactly the same symptoms with a Bultaco Sherpa but a new condenser mounted under the tank cured it.
  5. Lets look at this from a different angle. If that bike will be on sale for
  6. The Peak Classic Trials Club held their 6th round of their club championship at Bracken Rocks, Holloway near Matlock last Sunday 15th July St Swithens Day and boy did it rain! A good turnout considering the conditions attempted 4 laps of 10 sections which due to a lack of observers was split into 4laps of 5 sections followed by 4 laps of the other 5. The sections were in surprisingly good condition following the horrendous weather experienced by the whole country during the past few weeks with plenty of grip on the usually slippy rocks. Thanks must go out to the long suffering observers who stood out in the rain so we the riders could have what turned out to be a really good trial. Awards Expert British Bike 1. 7. Perhaps Sammy will sponsor it personally out of his own pocket from the proceeds of the sale? What ? What did i say wrong ?
  8. And which bit of your anatomy do you use slapper? and we know it's not that bit Trade secret OTF.......... I never move stones in sectons, if i move the beggars I'm guaranteed they'll jump up and bite me how you doin anyway you old beggar I'm alright still plodding along. hope the Grinch is feeling his old self again? The trouble with riding in Scotland and moving rocks is like buses there will always be another one coming along in a minute
  9. Well said and well put Woodie and like Charlie i too, believe it or not, wish Sammy the Trials rider a long and happy retirement. I hope he lives long enough to count it all As Charlie said he's a legend, if not for all the right reasons, he is a character and all sports need characters. Christ i'm getting soft in my old age.
  10. And which bit of your anatomy do you use slapper? and we know it's not that bit In all fairness, assuming Dave Thorpe is never there when you want him, then if moving the rock would incur you a five but not moving the rock would incur a five and a painful injury then sod it trip over the rock and see what happens Alls fair in love war and trials. It's not life or death after all ........................... it's more serious than that
  11. For once it's not the usual Millers are crap, service lousy etc etc. I had to grudgingly ring Millers today as i need a new front pipe for the TY250 and John Cane and J K Hirst hadnt got them in stock. Spoke to a new voice, not usual miserable cant be bothered ones. It appears that the business has been bought lock stock and barrel and has moved just down the road and will be trading as Sammy Miller Products. I dont know much more and this is their first week of trading so they are trying to sort out the stock they have and put it on file. They assured me that they will be updating not just their records but will be enhanceing the website, not before time, over the next few weeks. The new owners name is Richard Jordan and he is well aware of the "reputation" of Sammy and some of his staff for how shall we put it? a lack of commercial accumen and appreciation of customer service along with the effect that has on trading. The phone details are as before and they are taking orders so no problems so far. Just thought i should let you all know and i have wished him sucess as he seems to be a nice bloke with the right attitude. Lets just wait and see and not tar him with the old brush. He's told me the pipes will be ordered this week and should be available in two weeks so lets see if he's as good as his word? Be interesting even if it's not exactly a hard act to follow i feel we all benifit from a good choice of suppliers for what is lets face it a minority sport. Good luck
  12. Trials bikes have top end? I've never use it. You obviously dont have that many long climbs or sections where you need to "rev out". We dont have many but when you need it then it needs to be there. I hate an engine that wont rev out properly. So thanks guys WES system and Miller pipe wherever it comes from it is then. Will just get some mountings welded on. No probs
  13. Might all be from the same manufacturer cos as we know Miller doesnt make anything. Thought i had seen them on J K Hirst site and when i asked John Cane said he did them. Not really bothered about who and where just is the fact that they are smaller diamiter, if indeed they are?, might cause a problem? I could always get one made but cheaper if i use the one from J K Hirst. Dont like supporting Miller unless there is no choice. Just a personal thing. Like to support the people who are polite and offer good service. So is the smaller bore pipe a problem?
  14. I know i'm becoming a bit of a pain with questions about this TY "project" but if you dont ask etc etc There seems to be a few people offering the replacement front pipes, i've decided to use the WES middle and end, in chrome. Now i gather they are smaller diameter than the original one. Is this a problem? Does the engine suffer at the top end ? I know the pipe may even help with low down torque but does it allow the engine to breathe properly? I will be converting to 320cc in the near future so am a bit concerned. What has been the experience of the panel
  15. As far as i know, of course I.K.B.A. and bar, all the Villiers engines from 9E to 37A are the same stroke and cranks are interchamgeable apart from the invacar ones. There are two con rod lengths as mention previously. The 197cc usually uses the shorter rod so when choosing a barrel make sure the rod matches. You can always put a spacer under the barrel or machine it but it's easier to match the barrel to the rod in the first place. There are quite a few big bore conversions going the rounds but i dont know of any that are really successful in pre65trials. Pete Carson has one but he has spent ages and ages detuning it as it was an animal when he first got it. He's got it running well now but a lot of work for very little gain I.M.H.O. over a well sorted "std" square Greeves barrel and as said before if it's plonkability you want above top end then the old iron barrel takes a lot of beating. Shame it's so ugly though.
  16. Thanks for that Woodie. Generally in line with my thoughts.I've moved the footrests now. The fork yokes are hopefully being machined by next week, fingers crossed! I was wondering about the swing arm but will wait till i've had time to run it a bit. Which piston do i use to take it to 320cc ? Where would i get one from? I know i can get a tank via Mick but they are very very expensive but at least they are alloy. The one on Craig Mawlems site does sound a bit expensive seeing as it's glass fibre and doesnt include anything. Might have to stick with the std one unless something else comes up. I quite enjoy the modifying fettling bit so any and all suggestions appreciated. One other thing the front wheel spindle seems very thin are they ok or should i try to get bigger bearings and a thicker spindle made? Oh yes and i seem to have a strange heat shield on the exhaust. All the other ones i have seen have vertical slats mine are horizontal. OOH err
  17. He? She actually. Amanda is one of the best suppliers i know. I order lots of bits from her on line. Great comms and always arrive within 48hrs. Top lady. Usual stuff no connection blah blah blah satisfied customer blah blah blah You know me i would be quick enough to highlight poor shoddy service. So only fair to award stars for good service and Amanda gets a full five from me. Strange you dont hear so much about Millers nowadays.
  18. Yep or even the Dave Renham Bultaco UK type
  19. Firstly totally agree with everything thats been said on this post but sort of connected. I remember the early Ossa MAR having a sort of plastic bash plate. Light and durable plus could be moulded to fit. Probably was polyurethane so not as daft as it sounds.
  20. Hang on youre thinking of taking that honey to Bracken???? There'll be tears I'll be there with some Kleenex Damn nice job as always mate.
  21. I hate you Really nice Chris I'm envious. Getting rid of the Majesty? So when's it gonna get down and dirty?
  22. Only rode it round the garden so far but even with the knackered front forks it rides and handles really nice. Thats why i was wondering if it was worth modding the frame. Somebodys definately been at the frame already. You can turn with it right on the lock stops. Gearing needs lowering as it's on 10/41 at the moment and needs to be a tad lower IMHO but other than that feels fine. Going to make a plate and mount wider footrests a bit lower and back but thats just personal preference. Generally feels like a less twitchy version of the James. Not surprising really as thats 50" wheelbase as well. Think i'll leave it as it is just cosmetically give it a make over with a few tucks and tweaks here and there
