  1. This what is done to my bike before I bought it, and what a difference. Smoother and more controllable at low revs, enough pull when opened up. Mod suits club rider or intermediate skill. My timing and all else is all stock, except jetting. I was originally after a 200 or 250, at the time this bike came up and was skeptical after ridden other 270's. It goes like a torquey 250 or 200 really. Good thing its easy to revert back. Dont really understand what happens to the port timing, but the compression is lowered. I have had this bike for 3 years and haven't felt the need to change anything back.
  2. Seen the other post on the 50's and 60's trials, here is another one thats worth watching.
  3. I am looking at buying some exotica parts for my TY175, seeing exchange rates are favourable for me at the moment. I am tossing up in deciding between a WES pipe or CDI conversion. What should I go for first, what is the better of the two for bang for bucks? My engine is standard otherwise at present. I was thinking the ignition may pay benefits overall, and the pipe, where does this improve power, more mid range to top end? Appreciate anyone who has first hand experience with these parts.
  4. Winners are grinner's, well done Casey Stoner being the newly crowned 2007 MotoGP World Champion. Makes an Aussie proud to see another world champ in the record books and hopefully see a few more championships under his belt in the future. It wasnt an easy run to the finish, as he didnt seem to be happy with his setup during qualifying, but persisted on regardless for a result like no other. The race at Motegi was down to strategy from when to swap bikes and tyres selected etc made for a pretty exciting race I reckon for a close finish. I do take my hat off to Rossi for his persistence and trying to remain in the race with the problems he faced. Last round before at Estoril saw the Rossi of old, and made one think he wasnt going to go down without a fight. But watching pre race interviews and comments from Casey and Valentino were a couple of casual blokes that didnt really have the high expectations and had great respect for each other, so much for the media hype. But Casey did show bad form to Checa in the Qualifier and was totally out of character. Next couple of rounds look to be more of saddle placements and maybe some pre testing for 2008 - bring it on, I cant wait.
  5. If this isnt the proof in the pudding, well what is I ask you? If a rivals team boss gives credit where its due by recognizing the effort and talent by Casey, this must be the highest accolade apart from actually winning the World Championship. Read the Reuters article that was in my local paper: http://www.thewest.com.au/aapstory.aspx?StoryName=415388
  6. By the looks of it, Stoner is making this look easy, but watching the interviews it is just as much as a battle for setup and tyre choice as any other team. So for getting it right more times than the others and off pole, good on him. Also the best part is no one had previous track data for the change of track direction, which shows the win was even sweeter to skill with team input and not ass or familiarity from previous experience. To see another Aussie on the podium with him (Chris Vermullen) is great to see from my countries point of view, as 3 Aussie riders were in the top 10. Good form coming through. Is was still sad to see Rossi pull out due to bike failure, it would have been just as good to see where he would have finished or beaten. If Stoner can put the next 2 races away, the title is his! Woo Hoo!
  7. It appears you cannot register without making a donation to the website, I don't know what the amount that is required or expected? I could not register.
  8. Thanks grouchoF, I will register now. I can attempt to use an online translator if this makes more sense, I dont know how accurate it would be. I can see that the google page translator cuts off the title bar and icons, and this is why I didnt find the register icon before.
  9. I used to browse the French ForumTY.com before (translated), but now I cant access the topics as it requires a login. I cant seem to get the gist of registering to this site, it seems it requires a Paypal donation or such? Am I reading this right and this is the intention, as the google translator is at times vague?

    Mini Majesty

Any chance of a pic to compare? I wasnt aware of the variation.
  11. I do know that comparing the DT175 to the TY175 fuel tap are completely different, in size, length and mounting.
  12. Here is a link to another site where this bike has been mentioned. Anyone know more about these bikes or seen or riden them? http://www.ozvmx.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3179
  13. Up till the last trial, my bike was boiling over and knocking. It isnt even normal in hotter conditions in OZ, but this was on a cooler day. I found the BellRay synthetic coolant I was using had crusted and solidified when boiled due to a crap batch of fuel previously. Now the radiator had blocked fins internally, water pump full of chalky stuff and hoses, flushed barrel. I am not impressed. Have now epoxy coated water pump and now using the green glycol coolant. Tried her out this weekend gone and all good.
  14. Having 2x Aussies on the podium is a great site, harking back to earlier times. Well done Chris Vermuellen and Casey Stoner for leading the championship. It was one of the most eventful races I have seen for a long time, the shortened Le Mans track was tight and interesting, the tyre choice equation interesting, the rain affected track - equalising, the pit stop to change bikes almost endurance or F1 style, and rider positions changing every lap either by progress from the afore mentioned or crashing out. Racing was almost like watching a motorcross or supercross event due to the continued change of events. Well done to all riders, as that would have been very trying in those conditions.

    Shanghai

Didnt see any comment about Shanghai. But for the record: Top effort by Aussie Casey Stoner to win from Rossi for a hard fought victory. Ducati certainly had the legs on the straights.

Hmmm.......I see distilled water, antifreeze mentioned but not Antiboil. This is the usual mix for pre-mixed off the shelf brands coolants. They are usually glycol based organic based. Then there is the synthetic versions. I tried both versions, and still rotted 2x magnesium casings. The problem with electolysis is not a simple one. The paint layer on a new casing does protect it long enough until a pinhole lets in the coolant to start erroding away the magnesium. I believe its not the coolant where the problem is, but happens with other bikes with magnesium covers/casings for water cooling systems. Its either the composition of the metal and needs a sacrificial anode or something to counter it. All twin pipe Rev3 models will be affected, for '03 onwards, the earlier '02 was twin pipe also but had the heavier aluminium casing. This is one alternative. The other alternative is to epoxy coat the inside of the waterpump housing. I will be doing this with a metal paste epoxy shortly. Other owners have used different products. Sure pure demineralised water is very low in conductivity and should slow the electrolysis, but once contaminated will be of no futher use. Unless you can flush the radiator and barrel with this as well, its cheap to replace regularly. It just needs the other goodies in it to make it worth while (antifreeze/antiboil). EDIT- did some googling and found out that zinc, aluminium and magnesium are the best sacrificial anodes. What is more sacrifical than magnesium alloy?????? Havent found that answer yet. Good explanation of this I found is :
  17. I would add that the well know reseller (in the City that this bike came from) did recommend the bike as "Outstanding Value" and "Rides great with exception to a loose muffler mounting". I was unaware that this kind of "Interstate Dumping" went on from reputable suppliers..
  18. Well NEO, I have no sympathy for someone buying a bargain or a cheap buy, that was someones elses timebomb that lacked maintenance and need the dollars spent long ago on it that would have left it in better shape now. A lot of A Grade bikes I have seen and ridden, I would not touch with a barge pole due to the hard life they have had. How can you compare your bike to an '07? You should have bought my '03 270 that I have had advertised for a while on Trials Aust. - maintained and rides beautifully due to gentle life and lower grade owners. I can show you many a '02 Gassa or Sherco with sloppy rear linkages and soft forks and rattly motors, ride like pigs too. Just need some attention thats all!
  19. Try here: http://www.tytrials.co.uk/
  20. I am onto my second Beta, came from a mid 90's Techno 250 to a Rev3 270 was a huge difference. I stuck with this brand for their solid build and reliability. I have never had the stator prob, but look out for the magnesium-alloy casing in the water pump for corrosion for models 03 onwards. I have gone through my second casing, and will replace it with and alloy one off an 02 model. (with a slight weight penalty). The linkless rear suspension is a great achievement. The current model is even better as owners claim, I havent had a go on one yet to compair.
  21. I found this, Kawasaki (US) online parts list / diagrams, did a search and the KT250 came up. This may be some help for owners. http://www.buykawasaki.com/DefaultFrame.as...&intParts=1
  22. In principle, this is similar to the reed block spacer buy adding volume and for more torque and midrange.
  23. Thanks for the reply, sorry I did not search first but was in a hurry to post. Since doing that and talking to the local dealer, and have read the linked post provided. It seems that Beta is choosing to ignore this problem (do they read these forums?), as it occurs through the following years models with magnesium alloy casing of twin pipe water pump design. I am not sure why this occurs, electrolysis seems to be the culprite, but is this cavitation, as it only is around pump impeller? I have noticed it picks away under the paint layer internally on exposed edges, so it must be sacrificial as in anode by current flow. Maybe it needs a sacrificial anode, so where does it deposit to? I am not sure why coolant would deteriate over 6 months, as it should be inert, but may contaminate and aid the electrical path. I know of the sealant trick inside the cover, but as commented in the linked post, it will get under that if not applied properly. I think this would be ok to do if not too bad or from new. I have tried adding a piece of wire bonding the casing to the frame, with hope this will change the electrical path. Electrolysis is not that simple however. Mine is weeping at the o-ring seal now after inspection, used sealant goo to get another ride out of it for the weekend, but have decided to buy the slightly heavier aluminium casing from the earlier 2002 model. I believe the Honda CRF250 engines are problematic in this area too with magnesium alloy waterpump casings, dont know if the Montesa engine varient is similar?
  24. Have anyone come across a solution to fixing the corrosion to the magnesium casing on a Rev3? Mine is a '03 Rev3 270, and have replaced this casing before for the same reason. A mate said his chewed out again also, and was shocked to find mine had done the same a year and a bit later. I found the old coolant to be gycol based organic type, ok in alloy engines, but changed to the recommended synthetic based type after the last casing change. This has made no difference. Apart rom buying an alloy casing, what have other owners done or found? A mate had a similar experience with a Husky, and they epoxy coated the inside.
  25. Thanks anyway Scrumpy Jack, I am on the otherside of the world, so no advantage to me! Yes what are they off and are they leading axel? I see pics around of Pinky 250 front ends on earlier TY's, but this would tend to slow the steering/lenghten the trail etc. Interesting thought, but no to disc brake. I have the appropiate JS specs to upspec the motor, just need another barrel to modify, and keep an original setup too.
