It depends on how tall you are. On 20" bike riding posture dents to be less or more cramped. That caused some back problems to me. By the way... I'm now thinking about strating bike trials again. Yesterday I tried my mate's "Echo Urban" 26in trialser, I felt much more comfortable on it than on my previous Brisa. On the other hand 20" bike feels lot more flickable and easier to handle but some times they just don't feel stable enough. 20" wheels won't roll as good as 26" wheels but smaller wheel accelrates faster and also they are lighter yet stiffer... Ooukei, how do you do I'd do you too. I'm 129lbs(ish) and 5.6 feet. I used to have a very nice Yellow Brisa B20 (20in) with all the top notch parts, ie. Magura HS-33 Hydraulic rim brakes, front freewheel crank set... My Bike was 20.9lbs and it felt feather light. I had to sell it away because my knees couldn't whitstand the abuse of _pedaling_. I think that Brisa would spot on choice for you two! Nice flickable yet roomy frame design that is also very durable and cool looking! Seat option is always nice if you want to hone your wheeling skills! What comes to maintaining pro level trials bike, they are often very durable (exept koxx XTPs) and maintance free. I had two mayor probs during the last summer: one broken chain, one broken rear brakepad. Keep your eye on transmission, espcecially on chain. My mate has/had a Hope 4pot disc brake on his bike and that was a real pain in the butt! There always something wrong, leaking, squeking, dragging...

The stock bash plate is awfull... replace with a flat one.

HOW does Scorpa SYF gearbox feel for trials use? Are there some improvements carried out for trials use? Gearbox cluster?

Also, you must learn to whach further than your front tire. Look more further, so you get that "horizont" feel, helps really. What comes to using rear brake for balancing on flat surface my advice is to use it all the time. It helps alot and teaches you how rear brake feels on ya foot. It is possible to add an oilcooler to Yamaha 4-stroke. Kitaco makes even "bolt on" kit. Fitting a fan would be a piece of cake, no probs. Though I suggest that simple on-off switch will do the job of thermos. Here in Finland, 25celcius is a HOT summer day...

How about the gear cluster in Scopa/Yam 4stroke engine? Some one told that older model dent to have more "on road" gear cluster so that quy said it was impossible to ride trials with gear higher than the 1st.

I fully agree with this. I started my "carreer" in trials with Helkama AX, you see a pic of one here: Helkama AX 50cc It was awfull... for trials. (77kgs/2.5 kW by the way) But I couldn't get grip on anything else, and these were also road legal bikes. This bike taught lots of things to me and I'm pretty gracefull for it! It's still in my garage! At some point I put in a big bore 75cc kit and that was crazy moped then! End of very offtopic...

This sounds funny how you are disapointed about 2-3kgs. Have some weight lifting and/or become a man.

Do the SYF-175 have enough power to cope with rock gardens and 6+ feet steps? I'm bit worried about it... The yamaha motor on 125 model has 'only' 12hp... We don't have any of these 175 Scorpas yet in Finland so I haven't actually seen one.

Get new packing (from your dealer) remove silencer head caps, I think you will need drill to remove those rivets, then slide caps away, take all that old packing out and clean everything, check also the "drilled tube inside" for good condition (ie the holes must be open and free from any dirt and carbon). Put in the new packing and use "pop-rivets" to seal caps.

I use Sinisalo MX gloves. Those are nice durable yet comfy. I have never had any problems with feel or accuracy with these gloves. Here in Finland we have a bloody thing called "winter", you know that white stuff everywhere and freezin cold... Then I wear two pairs of these, a old loose pair on a new pair provide enough insulation. Few spikes put on rear tire really makes big difference while riding in snow and ice. It isn't that pleasant to go riding when it is over minus 6 celcius degrees.

As for bike I say that Scorpa, Beta and Montesa make very good bikes. These will be long lasting and durable. You are bit heavy(ish) and I would suggest you look for 200-250cc engine. Hmm.. i thought that once... If you bend the skid plate you also have to do something to skid plates front atachement points beacause bended skid plate is "shorter" than original... (I have difficulties in explainin this clearly enough... I hope it makes sense...)

And also bike depends on how old/big lad you are. It is better idea to ride bit "underpowered" bike than full on 250cc + bikes. A modern (2000+ year) bike in good cond. will cost you about

Joa is a very nice lad indeed! He is always willing to help beginners. He can also pull some sick moves... How about 2.5-3m splatter... with absolutely no run up! A very influental rider to me. Joa won every trial last year... and year before that... and yearbefore that... He is the best finnish/scandinavian rider at the moment.

02 Beta isn't that light but solid as rock. I would go to Beta.

Ok. I saw Tomi Luhtasuo riding new SY 250 and that was awesome! It seemed to find grip better than gassers. Alltough it was 2stroke, it has lots of torque at low revs, probably it has something to do with heavier flywheel.
