  1. Ask yourself this. Can Jarvis and Morris beat Michael Brown? Depends on the trial, I would imagine that Michael would give both a good challenge on wtc sections, not too sure how the Tdn would figure in relation to BChamps or worlds. But the point of the thread was more shouldn't we have michael there this year which will help next year and the yaer after when the answer to the question above will be an unequivocal yes.
  2. Jarvis hasn't done any wtc sections for? Morris has stopped wtc riding, so current form in wtc would be Browny?
  3. Pretty much all yam bought in I think.
  4. Rumour it may be, but the cost of the unit from Yamaha is very expensive and it may be that it has just got two much to afford. The fourstroke isn't that a current motor being produced for enduro anyway, so might even be half the cost to buy? Scorpa being the smallest factory might be looking at it from a financial survival position?
  5. 3.75 is wrong I'm sure. I've got 2.8 in my mind as what we used to set them at, quicker off the bottom? Not 100% sure as its been a while.
  6. in reality very little of the above goes on and as for standing in front of the observer it just never happens, not recently anyway.
  7. Think you are maybe at odds with alot of pro golfers too then.............. It is 2007 not 1984! Spa was brilliant last year! Go this year I'm sure you will be impressed, and maybe on the green route will make you say "I could do that"!
  8. I think your post gives more to the banning of minders than keeping them, minders needed at club trials ? Since the introduction of minders to world trials, in what area has numbers increased, other than competitors leaving. A good minder is there to give his man any advantage they can!! altering sections, arguing calls, obstructing the view of the observer, having a full set of spares in the form of a bike and many other thing's that just fly in the face of what the sport is about, on the other hand the observer is reluctant to five a rider for the antics of the minder. Cater for a few, and that is just what you will get, a few. I really do believe that it is very easy to oversimplify things insomuch as one and one does not always equal two. To expand; the section severity at club level, novice route is probably not that much different to twenty years ago, but at the WTC level the difficulty increases year on year, therefore to suggest no minders would simply make the event either too dangerous or too easy. The wtc is smaller yes, but not in direct relation to anything except those that can or are willing to accept the section severity will do it and the numbers are less now. This is being addressed by the Youth WTC which Alexz Wigg (British) won last year, and the Junior which Michael Brown (British) is almost certainly going to win this year. When these riders come through hopefully numbers will increase enough and the spectator draw will increase also, if required. The numbers are small yes but they are the elite of our sport and like cota I am in awe of their ability. Being close to the action at quite a few rounds in the last two years has been a privalidge to see the best achieve the seemingly impossible and make the difficult look easy. I remember that section at Hawkstone in 2002 was it , Dan Thorpe and a few others were no where near it then as the top guys came round they were getting closer and closer then Fuji got one of the few cleans and what a joy it was to see. Yes they are a million miles away from what you and I can even dream of doing but how will the suggestion of removing minders help any of this? In all the rounds in the last two years the gardening and advantage taking arguing and general rule bending is greatly overplayed here on TC, at Hawkstone the Bradford lot are fairly strict and fair and the placement catching and timing of sections really are the main tasks of the minders. In my opinion a minder simply adds to the atmosphere and professionlism. We wouldn't want Tiger Woods not to have a caddy surely? Gone are the days when a really good centre runner could have a go at a world round, that was back in the 80's, just the same as a competitive national cyclist couldn't manage the Tour de France. Times move on, the WTC is not designed to appeal to club riders so why should club riders think they have an instant answer to turning the clock back?
  9. Now without wishing to be defeatisit I really don't see the British team winning this year, not against Bou, Raga, Caby and co, so should the ACU team selectors think forward? I respectfully suggest Dibs is a definate but surely there must be a case for Michael Brown to be included as one of the four? By the time the TDN comes round he will have won the Junior title and (guessing here) will have competed in a couple of WTC top routes by then as well, just like dibs did (in 05?). So that would leave two places for more experienced riders to show the younger riders the way. Which two is up to others. Before anyone suggests it there is no hidden agenda here just think it would be good experience/ help the team in the future, and wouldn't affect the overall result anyway?
  10. I heard that the sections that were hard (longcliffetops?) were changed after the sheep had "moved" the markers?
  11. Go with the bing if you can, they run well on the bike are easy to set up and once done are easy to fettle. dave renham will advise as to set up I'm sure, if ness.
  12. I uesed to use insulating tape the old fashioned cloth type but thats not available readily in the uk. I then switched to renthal grip glue but now use the rubber glue used for tubeless cycle tyres tsubaki which is as good as rnthal glue but gives you a bit more time. Always wire on grips with SS wire and also push the ends into the grip so no sharp ends sticking out.
  13. Is it new? Is it registered?
  14. An open free is what ishy would call a gate trial, harder the gates the more points you get.
  15. Think the mt 73 was good in mud darn sarf
  16. Frame number is 4004, is that as late as it gets?
  17. Do sardent first stu would suit you better i feel
  18. Back mudgaurd is short too
  19. Alexz has had full use of the truck throughout the year and this last weekend, of course Adam Raga gets priority. The factory have helped no end this year and that has been at John Shirts request I believe, and that help is vital to Alexz's continued success and future performance. That support is surpassed in the UK by John Shirt at Gas gas Motos as witnessed with the best newcomer award at the SSDT. No one, please correct me if not 100% true, has been more loyal to Gas Gas than Alexz and his father Julian since he first swapped from a TY 80, probably 7 years or so? That loyalty and the titles he has won, euro youth and then Youth WTC last year have been repaid by factory help this year, when restricted at junior level to a pro racing 125 is faith indeed. No one can compete with the big budget of the Montesa HRC squad in terms of finance, but in terms of youth success their product is tops. The fact that English names are on a Spanish and Italian trucks is proof if needed that we have some great prospects in the UK for the next generation.
  20. You are right you need to be there to appreciate what the riders have to tackle. I think the section with most splats (7?) Alexz did very well on his 125 but the vids and pictures of splats are much more visually appealing so from afar its possible to get a skewed view of what the trial is like overall. You really think you can ride as well as Tarres? Trials has developed so much, we cannot turn the clock back, the machines have developed so much, we are still the same so technique and machines have caused the gulf. The first time rider who can wobble round a trial is much the same as 20 years ago, its just that the top end has gone off the scale and how can you stop that progress, should you even try?
  21. In case I missed making it clear there wasn't that many big splatts, more slippy steps 4' and multiple steps, lots and lots of slippy rocks and steep climbs, few stream sections too.
