    Gas Gas Clutch

Surely the larger reservoir and hose means more power at the slave for less pressure at the lever? Actually, shouldn't that be larger reservoir and smaller hose... so there's more fluid to push but it's sent at a higher pressure. I'm not quite as clear as I'd like to be on the effects of different changes to hydraulic systems.
  2. I'm working on something similar at the moment. I've got plans for entering trials online for sometime in the future, but it's been shelved for now. The problem being that such a system would need a lot of trust on the part of the clubs (as I would inevitably be handling their money somewhere along the line) and I feel it's better to start by just offering regs and entry forms (and results) online in a variety of easy to access formats and continue with the postal system of entry until the site has (hopefully) become more well known. If all goes well then I hope to implement online entries (along with a whole host of other space age ideas) sometime in the future, although it's a lot of tricky work that I'm not sure I fancy taking on right now. You can have a look at my progress so far over at http://www.cornwalltrials.co.uk, although what you see isn't really indicative of what I've done. Most of the work so far has been on the back end code. The feedback I've had so far from clubs that I've shown it to has been pretty positive, all of which means I now have to pull my finger out and get it finished! Feel free to drop me an email if you want to talk about anything to do with this in more detail.
  3. We're starting to get a little tired of our usual riding spots in Cornwall and were looking to go somewhere a little further afield for a few days riding. I know of several trials holiday places in Cornwall and Devon where there is accommodation and lots of riding land available, but these are a little too close to home for us. My google-fu isn't turning up any places like this in Wales, but I'm hoping somewhere exists. Can anyone help me out? If not, can anyone recommend any places to stay in Wales (preferable south - mid Wales) where a van full of between 3 and 6 people with bikes will be welcomed? It would need to be close to some good riding spots - the ones I've been seeing pictures of on here look exceptionally good - and offer some way to wash and store our bikes (just a hose pipe and garage would do for this).
  4. ... and that was just the teachers, aaaahhhh. Sounds like one of the worst crashes I've ever heard of on a trials bike, glad to hear it's all on the mend though.

  6. Are you after a 20" or 26" wheeled bike? Either way, if you're looking to buy new, for that sort of money I would look at Onza bikes. In the 20" go for the T-Pro for sure. There's more of them around than pretty much any other bike for very good reasons. The standard build is excellently specced for the price, and the frame is good enough that world championships have been won on it, so it offers a brilliant base for upgrades. If you want a 26" I'd try and stretch to the
  7. You can waterproof your boots. I did mine with a mix of dubbin and some sort of waterproofing product designed for walking boots (I think - it was one of the random tubs we have in the cupboard). There are lots of products out there, all you need to do is spend a bit of time applying several coats of the stuff every now and then (easy to do while watching the telly of an evening). Mine aren't 100% waterproof still, but then I'm lazy and don't keep up the treatments. They are waterproof enough that I can wash them off ofter a ride with a high pressure hose and only get slightly damp feet though! If you want I'll try to find out what I used on mine, but really any good leather proofing product should do. Any reasonable outdoors shop should be able to point you at a good product to use. You may find that on the first application the boots need LOTS of coats, especially if you have the natural finish. It's pretty thirsty stuff!
  8. There is plenty of parking there and they had no problem with people staying in campervans/tents last year. I would recommend taking a push bike with you, a lot of the sections are very spread out. Last year they were all connected by an internal road, so easy to get to, just a long way!
  9. I was just about to recommend tv.isg.si when I saw this post. Either that or get it running as a torrent somewhere. Please don't reduce the quality of the video before you upload it, nearly everyone has broadband these days and can easily cope with high quality video files. It'd be nice to see an injection of some videos in the motorbike trials arena that can contend with the quality coming out of the pushbike trials scene. In fact, maybe that should be referring back to the ubiquitous Future of Trials topic!
  10. That's a shame. It sounded really interesting as well! I should really buy Out of Section before I start lamenting not being able to get a Japanese DVD though
  11. http://fr33ride.com/store/oos.php <-- They seem to ship to the UK. I'm sure I found somewhere actually in the UK selling it before, but I can't find it now. I've never heard of that Re:Born dvd, and can't find anything on Google. Do you have a link for it? Edit: I've just remembered that I've seen copies of it on eBay before. So it's worth keeping an eye on there.
  12. I've got to agree. There's just too much going on for it to look good. I think Sherco have visually suffered from this for a while, and adding another colour is definitely not helping. IMO having both blue and yellow on the bike in the past looked OTT. Perhaps it could have been done with a redesign, but they've always looked crowded to me. Changing all the red, yellow and grey bits on the plastics for black would pare it down to simple beauty for me. The hectic graphics just detract from the attractive design of the bike itself.

    Spyware

Hmm, ok. So maybe I was a little over-enthusiastic with the "no spyware or viruses" thing. I forget that they do exist as I've never had to deal with any. Mind you, I've never had to deal with any on a Windows machine either, although I've had to think about it to keep them clean. Server security is a pain in the neck. It's one of the reasons I stopped running my own web&mail server - the extra cost of paying someone else for hosting is well worth not having the hassle of admin duties. To be really good at security I think that has to be pretty much all you do.

    07 Pro Spec?

Is this confirmation that the '07s have Sachs shocks? Or do you mean something entirely different by 'Sacha'?
  16. Umm, no. This riddle works by making you look for the wrong totals. The

    07 Pro Spec?

Eh? Are you sure about that? I know the 125 still uses a sachs but the TMX preview has the others listed as still using an Ohlins. Surely they wouldn't downgrade the rear shock? Something I just remembered is that the CDI has switched from Kokusan to Ducati. I think that's more of a supply decision than anything else though.

    07 Pro Spec?

I know the 250 has had some tuning tweaks to soften the power a little, although I've not been able to find out exactly what yet. Rider feedback has reported more torque across the gears as well, although again no idea what's been done to cause this. I think the changes were listed on the bike on display at Hawkstone, but I didn't pay enough attention while I was there. I'd be curious to know the exacting details as well if anyone can find them (I've almost given up for now).
  19. I'm going to go with "2) Modifying my Subaru".
  20. While I'm not able to translate all of that page I did notice the words "FREE RIDE" in big letters at the top and the cut down rear plastics on the broken bike, which suggests to me this was broken by one of the "Out of section" type riders - probably doing something a little outside the design parameters of the bike! In fact, the little I can translate of the title seems to be suggesting that this images are illustrating the risks of doing 'free ride' trials rather than the weakness of the parts. Any bike will break if it you push it hard enough, especially if you're using a trials bike for something rather different than what it was originally designed for, and I've seen videos of these guys jumping Freestyle MX jumps on their trials bikes!
  21. Ok, perhaps I over-estimated the size of the Hawkstone/Sheffield crowds. I had thought I'd heard someone say that the Hawkstone crowd was one of the (if not the) biggest on the WTC circuit, hence why I guessed we had enough audience to run such an event. Woah! There's no need for such an agressive response. I don't believe I ever actually said I thought the ACU should pay for such an event, I merely said that I expected the standard response to my post to be "the unwillingness of the ACU to invest in something like this" (as seems to be the general reason given for most problems in UK trials). Not only did I not say that I thought that the ACU should pay for it, but I never even brought up the subject directly - invest does not just mean money you know. I agree that the ACU shouldn't finance such an event, hence why I was talking about the feasability of it as a business venture. I'm certainly not convinced that the fact something doesn't already exist means it is unfeasable, it just means no-one has done it yet. Which isn't to say I think it IS feasable, but that that particular argument for it's unfeasability is invalid. Perhaps it was poorly worded, but this topic was intended to garner the opinion as to the feasability of such an idea; so far either you're both rather cynical or the general consensus is that it isn't feasable!
  22. I've been watching over a lot of the videos from the 2006 indoor series (from Eurosport) and I keep noticing mention of the Spanish Indoor Nationals, on the Spanish rounds it was even mentioned that the riders had ridden the sections before in the Nationals?! If this is true (and I must admit, I don't really trust anything from Jack Burnicle's commentary) it makes it pretty clear why the Spanish are dominating the indoor series these days: when riders like Bou have had a chance to be competing indoors for several seasons before being unleashed on the world circuit it's no wonder he's come out winning things straight away (and no wonder Dabill is struggling to keep up without that sort of backing). So what I can't quite understand is why there is no UK Indoor series? Surely the massive crouds descending on Sheffield and Hawkstone Park show there is an audience over here, and while one would assume these audiences would drop off if the events were more regular they should still be sustainable? Has anyone looked into the feasability of running such a thing, or is it even already running in such a low key manner that I've not even heard of it? I'm guessing the stock answer here is going to be the unwillingness of the ACU to invest in something like this, but I can see a lot of use for such a thing. Not just to entertain us and train our young riders for world indoors, but indoor trials should also help teach the kind of trick riding skills that are becoming essential in the outdoor series these days (especially as several sections per round are essentially indoor sections in the open air) as well as helping the riders get used to big crowds watching. Apologies if this is a topic that's been discussed before, I did try a search but couldn't come up with anything relevant in there. I'd be happy to be pointed to a previous discussion on the subject.
  23. My brother rides an '04 200 which had a heavier flywheel put on from the start. I can pretty much guarantee you won't find it too soft with this mod. He's 20 years old (so no little kid) and that bike can take him up anything, I've ridden it quite a few times myself and find the power delivery very smooth but still quite snappy when you need it - apart from some really big blasts I find that bike has more than enough snap and power for anything I'd want to try, and that's with a 175cc engine! Around here the standard mods (at least on the 250s) seem to involve head spacers, infact I think a lot of people pretty much consider that an essential. However I've just ordered an '07 250 (and have to wait 3 weeks for it!) and have been told that the new ones have been calmed down a little so these mods aren't really needed anymore - which is undoubtedly a good thing, after all if you want a viscious beast of a bike you should be riding a 280 not a 250!
  24. Oh, lets all play the 'show off our desktops' game Here's mine (at about half it's normal size). Functional and flashy!
