  1. I recently found that I too was missing the spring and ball. I found a spring in a car fuse carried that fitted and the ball from an old trials wheel bearing is the right size. Should the grub screw have a rounded end as i am too missing it. I have replaced it with a short bolt but was thinking over time surely that will wear the shaft? Ta conor

    Flywheel Torque

oops, I did read that but obviously missed the first line, thanks anyway. Whats the tool like for holding the fly wheel while tightening?

    Flywheel Torque

Does anybody know where I could find the flywheel nut torque figure? Is there a special tool for holding it while tightening? Bikes a 2004 290. Thanks Conor

  5. I agree with rcgods a trailer is a better way to transport your bike, much less stress on the car. I used to have a 306 also and there was a noticable difference in traction with the boot loaded and the trailer on. One thing to note is that the 306 doesnt actually have any springs on the rear. They use a kind of torsion bar system. I know this because I made my bike trailer from the rear axle of another 306. The torsion bars are on splines on either end you can remove the two ends and lower or higher the car on jacks then just pop them back in, its fairly simple. See the attached picture, the trailer in that pic is not the one made with the pug axle. Conor.
  6. Its a good oul lift getting a bike in the back of one of those jeeps anyway. We had a lend of a van a few weeks ago (a Mitsubishi something or other,) two bikes and gear fitted perfect. I personally think a decent trailer and a car with a big boot is just as handy if not better. Conor

  9. Hey Can videos such as those mentioned above be viewed online anywhere? Thanks Conor

  11. Thanks for the replys, It certainly would be interesting to find out did RLracer's bike run Ok. In the end I gave in and modified the piston couple of mins with a file, it turned out quite well. Im still not sure why it wouldn't start, spark is still quite weak, my ignition is leonelli but i think some newer/older bikes came with a different ignition. has anybody else found that the spark is very weak? Gasgaser what were the symptons when the piston was back to front? I will try turning off the fuel also. Sound almost too simple. Thanks Conor
  12. Hello I have owned a 04 290 for about a year now and its hasn't given any real trouble until last week. heres the story: Started bike, ran for approx 2-3 mins stoped and loaded onto trailer, 5-10 min trip, bike off trailer wont start. Checked all the obvious, petrol, plug etc. nothing unusual. Bike back on trailer. Upon further inspection it looked like the spark was quite weak, replaced plug no difference. Suspected timing was out checked woodruf key ok. Pulled off the head and cylinder, checked the rings. Rings were very worn piston and bore looked ok. replaced rings, put back together and it fired. Now heres the question. Why did the bike start then just not start, its not like the rings just wore out in 2-3 mins. I bought the bike second hand so never knew that the compression was low, its always just been like that. Takes a good oul kick now to start it, and the extra power is noticable. Decided that I would replace the Pistion and top end bearing while I had it all apart. Problem 2 - My original piston has a semi circular cut out in the skirt at the rear, I bought a new piston from the dealer and it doesn't have the same cut out. When I returned it as I presumed it was the wrong one I was told its ok thats just the way they come now. This seems strange the cut out leaves the inlet port open where as the new pison almost completly covers same port. The bike just couldn't run properly. It would be the same as putting the piston in back to front. Has anybody replaced a piston lately? Is this the correct piston? The dealer has no other and is certain its the correct piston, im considering altering the new piston to match the old one, or reusing the old piston, but that would be a waste of E90. Any thoughts? Thanks Conor

    96 Gas Gas

Hello all. I have convinced a mate to buy a bike to try trials out. We are going to look at a 96 gas gas 250, Could some of you guys tell me a few things about this bike, espicially is there anything in particular we should look out for on this model? How will i know the year is there a badge on it anywhere that tells you?? And most of all what do you think its worth ?(euro) The guy selling it says its in very good condition... Thanks in advance for any help Conor
  19. Tony Would you mind forwarding those pic on to ronoc88@hotmail.com or even post em up here. I will have to do something similar with that tap myself. Cheers Con
  20. Tony I too bought a 97 section recently, and was pleasently suprised by the bike overall. Mine too seemed hard to start however as previously suggested, a carb clean made all the difference to mine. I also would suggest that you turn off the fuel tap after every use, this is not so easy on my bike as the fuel tap is so tight behind the frame. Is this the same on your bike. Conor
  21. Andy you would want to be carefull where your taking your pics from that lion is definatly looking at you..

I agree with doughbouy, the power valve is most probably not the problem, Although like dough bouy my power valve cable was broken for a considerable time before i noticed and when replaced had a noticable difference at top end power.
