  1. If you never rode right side shift, you aint old! I enjoy riding my 199 right side shift, although I have to be carefull about jumping back and forth between bikes. It takes about 20 minutes to program my brain for one or the other. I believe 159s were wrong side shift in the U.S. at least, so ifyou must, it should be doable.
  2. Can anyone tell me of a good source for the rim only?
  3. The standard peg location is well above a line between the axles.
  4. Yes, I remember that from my Pursang days. I've seen a photo of a bellcrank setup with a cable from the right going to a rod on the left. Does anyone have experience with this setup?
  5. I didn't mean to imply that the footpegs had been raised. They are the stock height, and I have fit longer pegs that came off a Pursang, I believe.
  6. Last year I adopted an unloved 199A Sherpa T. Like most children it has absorbed large amounts of money and is still far from perfect. It seems I have the engine, suspension and brakes fairly well sorted now. After a good ride in some intermediate level sections this morning I think the best improvement in rideability I can make now would be to lower the footpegs (I'm fairly tall). Does anyone have photos, templates or advice to offer me? My intent is to compete occasionally on this bike in both modern and vintage events. I want to keep it vintage legal but it is far past the point of ever being a show bike. As of now it has a left side brake on it which doesn't particularly bother me (thats the way I learned to ride) but if I'm cutting and welding I would probably switch it to "wrong side shift".
  7. I expect that would be the case, if you don't ride amongst rocks more than 12 inches tall.

    Rear Spokes

Every one I know that had a 315 in the 90s broke the short rear spokes occasionally. The later models don't seem to do this, even with four fewer spokes. Can anyone tell me what changed and when? I have an opportunity to buy a used wheel from a 98, I don't care that it's four spokes heavier but I'd rather not break spokes.

    2010 Scorpas

On the Scorpa website it appears that production has begun. Has anyone seen one yet or have one coming? Anybody know if they will be 2010 or 2011 models?

Thats quite a pipe guard on the KTM! In general I've found that air cooled dirt bikes are preferable for Trials competition as the wide radiators get in the way of the rider as well as limit avalable steering lock. They also make the bike look wide which I find distracting and make the bike more top heavy. But I still say run what ya brung.

XT 225 Your Yamaha must be defective! You should return it to your dealer for warranty repairs.

I've done it, as have many of my friends. We changed only our rear tires. Another friend did quite well short tracking his Trials bike.

No you don't, novice lines at most club events can be ridden on a well set up trail bike. If the lines are too tough for a good trailbike then that club will have a hard time attracting beginning riders. If I can't clean a novice line on my XR 250, I modify it so I can, or throw it out.
  14. Or you may see the cause of the noise. Alu skid plates can be very noisy, the stock skid plate on your bike is rather thin and easily damaged. You may well find that once you take it off you can't get it back on.
  15. I'd pull the skidplate off before tearing into the engine.
  16. Is the initial movement of an X Blok tube less than a black (slow) Domino tube?
  17. I'd like to soften the response of my 06 4RT. Is the 2 stage "mild" really mild or is the "wild" just wilder? Can anyone recommend a supplier for the 2 stage unit who can change the programming for me if needed. Ther seems to be no 2 stage units in the U.S. just now.

    2010 Scorpas

    OK, how about educated guesses?

Any one here in the know about the production schedule for 2010 models? I'm not looking for guesses, or advice, thanks.

Can we get a link to or name of the site?
  21. The Betas I've seen have been 250cc and are quieter and smoother than a 4rt. I'm not sure what the "race" designation gets you though and I've not seen a 300 yet.
  22. The reason companies are developementing four stroke Trials bikes is because the F.I.M. forced them to. If you have the exhaust restrictors in your Montesa it is no louder than a Two stroke. Another thing to consider is that most two strokes won't run properly on pump gas thats available in the U.S. So you need to run expensive race gas that, I think, smells worse than the small amount of synthetic oil typically used in a trials two stroke. I suspect that a 125 four stroke or a 200 two stroke Trials bike would be much easier to ride in a small back yard tha a 4RT or a bigger two stroke. Ride what you like and have fun!

    Sherpa In Action

Wow, that looks fun! Forgive an ignorant American but are they riding non stop rules, and how strictly is it enforced?
  24. Where can I get one? Who makes it?
