Last Saturday was listed as 83.6 miles, (Perce can maybe correct us) once you put a few twists and turns in on some of the moors 80 miles is straightforward. Mind you the looks on some of the faces as they crossed the finish on Saturday.. maybe it was more Another thing that struck me about it and highlights the speed and intensity needed to complete the trial is the attrition rate. Only 60 finishers from a just under 200 start list, that's a pretty horrific 70%. Most of these riders are strong, fit, good club/Centre riders to World Champions (sorry Doug). Your respect for an event like this and the people with the courage to try just increases once you see it. I always reckoned the Scottish was the toughest event on the calander, I'm reconsidering that.

Depends what modes she's shooting on, I use an EOS 30D and will shoot either Av or Tv settings. On Tv set a shutter speed of 1/250th of a sec, fast enough to freeze the action in trials and the camera will select the best aperture to balance the shot. On Av set a low f number depending on your lens and the camera will sort out the shutter speed. You can also crank up the ISO numbers, start at ISO 400 and increase it a bit is necessary. Lastly get a decent flash gun that'll help. not sure what the Flash Sync speed is of the 400 mines and the ones above is at 250th of a sec so perfect for trials. This one taken at Witches Burn, not too bad a place to shoot but in a shady bit of woodland, 250th of a sec @ f5.6 flash on but bounced up a bit.

Big studies and papers around just now suggesting that the theory that Lactic Acid and exercising Anaerobic conditions is bad for you is a lot of ballocks. Got some stuff about it recently that I haven't read yet but we touched on it at a coaches conference in Norway a couple of years back. Long sessions are great for stamina/endurance training, that's about it from my experience. Diet very indivuidual but at the highest levels of elite sport they reckon a 60/40 protein / Carbo split I've got a couple of hundred pics from Surrender and Whaw, haven't had time to go through them yet.

Disagree, most folk on these forums know you don't have the greatest respects for the man therefore even if he nailed an 8th and 9th title you'd still find some one better. While I agree that Doug's 99 looks unassailable I didn't think anyone would eclipse Ago's record as Rossi has this season. Maybe 99 and 7 are beatable, I don't think we've yet seen the person who is going to do that, It's not Bou or Raga, they'll be fighting each other for the next 5 years. This I will agree with, lets compare achievements in 10 years time. I'm certain the arguments will be the same, Doug will still come out on top

....and we are well aware of your opinions and general comments about him over the years as well, that's not an unexpected comment from you. His career is tailing off as always happens to every top level sportsman HOWEVER as has been said, unfair comparison because of the relative stages of their careers. Either way he is still in there, I wouldn't say Bou and Raga are that far ahead right now. In my opinion Doug is the best rider there has ever been (his old man is still my favourite but....). Give him the new bike and the back up he needs and he'll still be in there fighting next season. No disrespect to Dibs, Browny or Alexz, Doug still represents the UK's BEST chance at a WTC crown in 2009 so instead of questioning it, get behind the man and support his endeavours.

He got into the Cricket Club first so only had to buy his own....I am reliably informed...I have my spies GET A GRIP ........ He offered to do the auction so he wouldn't have to buy a round.......

No chance mate..... Bigfoot and me had to keep Fugly, Dangleebitz and Mrs Slapshot under control...brilliant night. I'll just add it in here....that has to be one of the best weekends I've spent around trials in over 40 years, it was absolutely superb. The trial was everything it's been cracked up to be the SSDT on steroids seemed to be the best description...the Hedonist I married dared to suggest that the Scottish should be run the same way .... she has been suitably chastised. Perce - amazing weekend mate can't wait to get back. I've already started persuading her to go next year as well If anyone else is thinking about it... GO ... not just to the trial but the auction and awards as well, it's well worth it

John should have dragged Doug and Fuji .... much better salesmen the he was. It's just as well the auction ended when it did, poor bugger would have been naked up there. Brilliant night hope Fuji comes back and brings a few of his WTC pals with him
