The little TY yams and TL Hondas got a lot of people into this sport in the 70's maybe a econo model from china will do the same who knows, but it can't be bad if it gets more people wanting to give it a try, those that stick then can move up to the more expensive bikes.
-
That is just the point I'm trying to make Nigel, people would be less likely to post nasty remarks if their name was visible along with it, or at least would be more tactful on how they said it.
Nothing wrong with posting a letter on what a person dislikes about something, be it a bike, event, service, whatever, but when you just see a statement by an unknown saying the trial sucks, the organizers have no clue what they are doing, or the bike is useless it falls to bits, my mate had one and it blew up.
What carries more credibility, a signed note or an anonymous one ?
-
[Q]TMX]As you can see, I am more than happy to stick my name to any words, thoughts or deeds that are my own and accept any subsequent consequences but, amazingly to some, I sure don't wish to carry the can for acting as mouthpiece for Mr Anonymous.[Q]
Yes a nick name under the avitar is fine, but shouldn't all profiles have the members correct name, hid behind it's easy to slag whatever or who ever.
I agree with JD, if you don't like somthing it's not against the law to say so, or even what you think, but if people knew who was saying it, then it may be said a little better, or not at all.
-
It was the AMA I called and asked,I know it's no big deal throwing junk mail in the trash bin, but shouldn't they ask you to sign for the permission to use your personal information rather than if you don't tick some obscure box we will sell your information to any Tom, Dick and con man who is willing to buy it.
Most the riders in this area are not members of the AMA, and I very seldom use it, only time it is needed is for US national events, and I haven't ridden any in the past two years, I informed them that if the junk mail keeps on coming it will go in the bin, so will the next membership renewal.
-
Called!! AMA is the source.
They said they would remove him from the list, I'm not happy he was on a list in the first place.
-
My lad Trevor aged nine, received in the mail today Geico insurance information offering quotes for motorcycle insurance, who gives them this information ? only place I can think is the AMA,if so are they selling our personal info ?
-
Not at all r2, in fact it did take some time for the works bikes to get up to parr, all other brands claim how close the WR bikes are to stock, HRC are willing to put the big bucks in to make sure they have a full works machine up to the task, all the hard work getting the machine to the point it is now will pay dividends why change the best two riders for the job? can't see it myself.
Who's the two best men for the job of riding the 4rt's at this time ? thats who will be on them next season.
Is Frexia riding two or four stroke next year, could be either with Scorpa.
-
Lead weight Mont 4rt 6 wins, GG 5 wins, Sherco 1 win.
Some lead weight, and next season they will really get the lead out.
-
Ryan now has the stock plug in stock, I would use that make sure you have a spare.
Bosch # is FR 7 DC
Only once in three month has my bike run fuel out of the overflow tube, in my case cleaning the carb cured it, dirt not allowing the float bowl valve to close properly, if yours is overflowing all the time, then I would lower the float height or make sure nothing is clogging the valve.
-
Altough it's not over injury spoiled what must be one of the closest season in a long while, don't care who rides what, providing we get another season like this without the injuries.
Fajardo could of got one, still may
-
.6mm 24 thou
Why I asked about the plug was, I just fettling the bike after this weekend and thought I would treat her to a new plug, the bosch equivalent to the stock plug, started it up and ran it a while and noticed it was running hotter at the tail pipe within a few minutes, replaced the plug with the stock one and she ran just as normal, only thing I noticed about the plug was the plug cap didn't lock on to the bosch as good as the NJK
-
Out of interest WM, when you changed the carb did you put a new spark plug in it ?
-
14 events on mine and all I have changed is the oil and leaned up the main from 28 to 24.
Not going to change owt at this time, had to meet with two Oregon forestry guys today so we could GPS sections and trails, some they are going to designate for trials use only, they ride Mont 4rt's and what a blast they had on some of the trails today, both of them broke rear fenders and levers but they had big smiles on their faces at the end of the day, the $1500 GPS also got broke.
On their front number plates they have ODF your tax dollars at work
This weekend I rode a two day points event, and 6 hours solid mapping the Tillamook state forest with the ODF lads today, all the 3.2 got was gas tipped in it, I had a blast up the big forth gear hillclimb we used in the last US nationals at that location, those who rode the event will know the one, not done any big climbs on it so that was a good un to test it, had to shut off at the top, bugger was going way too fast, soooooo much power, but soft as they come in the rocky streams, roll on SSDT.
My advice on the 3.2 is stop pratting with them and ride the nuts of em, they love it.
-
Reading news reports, the south of Germany is having some real flooding, anyone know if this is in the same area as the Gefrees two day world round
-
I think you answered your own question, if heat flows better from hot to cold, keeping the header cooler will allow the gasses to escape faster.
In other applications like RV exhaust system that were getting too hot on big V 8's coating the header improved cooling and horse power.
I don't know what the result will be, but there is only one way to find out.
My concern is if the heat isn't lost through the header pipe will it end up trying to loose it through the center box and silencer, if so will they get too hot ? again only one way to find out.
-
I agree with you all the results show is the head temp of the four stroke and the two stroke water cooled bikes are close to the same, the topic is why do 4s run hotter.
The one area that is hotter on the four stroke is the header pipe, I don't know if this is because the pipe is smaller in diamiter or what, but with temps getting up to 600 deg F, I would be looking at ceramic coatings to get better exhaust flow.
The Sherco 4T exhaust high temp was 360 deg, it has also a larger diameter than the Mont, but I don't know if it is single or double walled.
Someone is sending me a ceramic header pipe for a Mont so we can test that.
Also a mate of mine has his truck header pipes coated localy and claims they drop the temp of the pipe over 110 deg, we will see, if it works I will get my header pipe coated, if it only means saving melting my wellies

I would of thought Ringo would have every crab extermination formula known to man right there in his riding satchel, and a few home brewed high toxicity viles for the realy stubborn critters.
And he calls himself a riding buddy
-
So to try and answer this question we did a test at our club trial today.
Using an hand held non-contact laser thermometer, at section 5 of a three loop ten section trial.
The first loop was not recorded because riders took time to walk the sections and the bike often cooled down.
A point on the motor, half an inch below the cylinder head gasket was the point used to record the temp on all bikes, and the thermometer has an error range of + or - 2 deg either way.
I'm not going to post every single recording just the highest and lowest recording of each machine the average reading is inbetween , I was riding the event and the observer recorded the values when he punched the riders score card.
The Sherco and Scorpa 4t's only had one bike each to record the values, all the other models had more than one.
Ambient temp was 85 deg F app 30c all results are in Farenheit.
Scorpa 125. low 219 high 247 avg 233
GG TXT 321 low 161 high 167 avg 164
GG PRO low 162 high 168 avg 165
Mont 4rt low 145 high 160 avg 152.5
Sherco 4T low 152 high 160 avg 156
We also recorded the header pipe temp at the same time and found those with crome pipes gave a false reading due to the reflection, but the lowest good reading taken on none cromed pipes reading was 255 and the highest was 600

Same front pad as the 92 TLM 260.
I have heared of people getting them relined with new pad material.
Email Adrian Lewis at Lewisport usa he may be able to help.
I have a worn set with just a tad of meat left on them if you are realy desperate

Prevention is cheaper and quicker than the cure! on new ones or ones that are fine at the moment.
The rubber seal between the airbox and the muffler pushes the airbox to one side so starting the bolts is tricky, I found putting an allen wrench in the inside hole and prying the box over a little while starting the other bolt with your fingers will stop the problem happening in the first place, also start all bolts with fingers and don't tighten until all are in place, this allows a little play to align all the holes up.
I did struggle and mess one bolt up on my 99 2.5, had many since then , by useing above method haven't done it since.
-
I would think it will be a bigger deal for Sherco and Scorpa if the FIM scrap the idea.
As you say it's a rumor!! but even if true I would still like to see one or two companies keep a fourstroke in production, time will tell, but the first year of production compares with first year of any new two stroke model in my opinion.
You either like them or you don't but it's what I enjoy riding, providing there is the option to buy them I wouldn't care if the rule was never enforced, because most will opt for the two stroke if given the choice.
-
WM, on the oil breather, because it's sits on top of the valve cover and any oil that is pushed out tends to attract dust and look messy on the head I put a breather within the breather type of deal, bit like a plastic straw, if you push it in the breather cap about an inch, any oil in the pipe will go to the top of the original tube while still allowing it to breath out of the insert.
So we have heard plenty of negative stuff about the 3.2 what about the likes and how it performs in the section.
Results in trials, have they improved or not ?
Feel and handling ?
Power ?
Grip?
If you could what would you change about design, like better access for removing valve cover ?
Do you prefer it over a two stroke in the performance department ?
I'm asking about experience with the bike, not what the lad down the street told you or a five min test in a parking lot.
-
Well at least you know plenty of oil is getting to the top end, being the breather tube is right in the top of the rocker cover.
I noticed when you change the oil 700cc in the main filler and 100cc in the other, it just measures spot on the red line in the sight glass, then when you start it and let it run a while on tick over the level will go down, due to the oil getting up to the top end, stop the motor and it drains down after a minute or two to measure spot on the line again, make sure you check the oil level cold or at least give it a few minutes to drain back down before checking against the level marker.
One of the biggest problems with the bike at the moment is information, and I suspect more of you are having problems with the first batch of bikes than the later production bikes over 00100.
Another thing is what is normal operation for the bike and what isn't, to tell the truth I have not really had any problems.
My advice to anyone getting one new, is don't take the top end off, to check the clearance unless you really know what you are doing, let your dealer do it, in fact make a deal with them to do the initial valve check for free if you buy one, no one seems to have had to adjust the shims after five hours anyway, Howard said he was a thou off on one but that could of even been a thou off to start with.
We are finding it hard to source the correct plug, but a bosch equivalent is on it's way from RYP, I'll post the number when I get it, the correct gapping of plug at 0.6mm is important and does help starting.
Do you have the parts download and service tip download WM, why don't you start a closed topic on the 3.2 and post both on there for quick reference and any other good information that you think would benifit owners could be copied and pasted into the topic by you.

A positive side to Dani, riding the junior class for the remainder of the season, is that it gives other lads a chance to get a win or on the podium,
as shown in the Hawkstone results.
Physco, is right, the young riders will get their chance soon enough, some countries acquiring a valid drivers license can be done at a younger age, but all world championship classes require this.
All press releases on rule changes etc are posted on the FIM site, who's responsibility is it to keep up to date on those changes ?
-
[Q] Andy's post
"18 years old (or who will be 18 years old during the year of the event)"
[Q] Dabster's post "Dani oliveras is 17, his birthday is in November when he will be 18."
Doesn't Dani meet the criteria due to the fact he will be 18 during the year of the event ?
