  1. Non issue? The biggest set of rule changes the sport has ever seen is coming. This is more than just No Stop........ Longer loops, bigger gas tanks, weight limits, cc limits and more. Having these discussions is a good thing.
  2. I've been at this a long time Johhny. It's broken. Imagine a promo video for the sport of trials. Opening scene: a rider enters a section pulls in the clutch, puts a foot on the ground and stays in place for 1 minute 29 seconds. The commentator begins " This is the exciting sport of Moto Trial. One of the most fun and challenging two wheeled sports on the planet. The rider you see is a master of balance and technique. He is being scored by an observer and so far his score is only ONE point. It is a near perfect ride so far, only one point above the best possible score of zero. " All credibility gets lost. Even Motocross, Speedway and Dirt Tracker riders are moving when they put their foot down.
  3. Good point John. Watch this video and see how many no stop moves you can find. I see a beautiful No Stop move @ 00:47. Another beautiful floater turn @ 2:12. another @ 2:57 another @ 3:10 http://www.photobysergio.fr/team-montesa.html
  4. It's a mixture of both styles... there is much more movement and much less stop and wait. I see a beautiful No Stop move @ 00:47. Another beautiful floater turn @ 2:12. another @ 2:57 another @ 3:10 These types of moves are what we will see this year. I also see Taddy hanging around in the background.
  5. If this is the original sump guard it may be time for a new one and the rubber cushion.. Think of what a sump guard goes through and what it protects. Some are pushed up so tight against the motor that one more hit would break the crancase $$$ In some case they can be reshaped on a hydraylic press. But at some point they all need to be replaced. With a new sump guard there should be some tension but that should be mainly from compressing the rubber cushion. Post a photo if you can.
  6. I'm thankful for that we are having a World Round in the USA. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
  7. No Problem Craig. I was just using your comment about observers/rider conflicts to highlight Amos' comments about banning arguements.
  8. Amos Bilbao has suggested that riders not be allowed to argue with observers, period. I think this is a great idea. This thread was intended to fire people up about the upcoming World Round at TTC. A long time ago....... As a young lad I was lucky enough to spend a summer working at Sandiford's. I spent my time along side the great Bill Brandwood who taught me so much. I recall that the was a Brittish Round of the MX GP 250 coming up nearby and we all made plans to go. As the GP grew near ol' Bill began a countdown every day he would remind us that were we going to see the greats of MX ride in anger. He'd say "just 2 weeks, boy until f#cking Grand Prix" !! He was so stoked and it spread to the rest of so much so that buy the time we got to the day of the GP were we all going nuts. We spent the day leaned over the ropes cheering on the greats of MX . The late great Jim Pomeroy raced that day. He crashed early on, came around in dead last with no visor or goggles and worked his way back to to fourth. My memory has never been great but that day stands out. Why tell you all this story.? Because all this talk of rules changes has got us here in the US missing the point. It's been 5 years since most of us have seen Toni Bou and Co ride. Seeing him ride on You Tube is not good enough. I want the real thing. The idea of No Stop has trials riders talking about the state of the sport and that is a good thing. But its a bit like politics or religion. It has the potential to become polarizing. This post is intended to get people fired up about going to TTC and remember it's just 6 months to the US World Round!
  9. sorry but the rule you are refering to was called "stop with penalty" and the penalty for a stop was only 1 point.
  10. Wild horses couldn't keep me away from the WTC at TTC in May. I am going to keep an open mind and I am going to support our sport and the folks at TTC that are putting a lot on the line to bring this event back to the USA. Mr Hensley I believe that it's a mistake to assume that there will be in your words no "set up an manuvered so easily and gracefully" I have heard this reaction from others and I wonder why people assume that No Stop = Boring ? I think folks assume it will be like a vintage trial. They are wrong. I believe that it will be a very exciting mix of styles. The only thing that is being removed from the modern style is the "stop" every other modern technique is allowed and will be used and only one ingredient will be added "motion". Laike I said before, call it " trick riding with motion" .The riders at the WTC will adapt very quickly. And the riding will be spectacular! People ask how will it be scored? Good question. I am sure that the FIM will define what a stop is and I am sure there will be disagreements just like with any set of rules in any sport. The surprising thing to me is that people think the rules we have now are OK. No , I'm sorry but they are the worst rules ever. Today you can stop with a foot down and get a only a one. This is not trials. It violates the basic principals of the sport. Please bear with me. I'll explain. Trials has at its core 2 basic elements..... "Balance and Motion" When you stop w/foot down you have failed at both elements of the sport. You are no longer demonstrating any type of skill whatsovever. It's a failure 5 points. As a matter of fact you have become so useless that the bike can perform this without you aboard. This is what I call the "Human Kickstand" or in the UK ......propstand or what ever you lot call it. You have ceased to be an athlete and sportsman...Yet no one is scored a failure. You can perform this absurdity for 89 seconds and still be on a one and for the majority of riders this is accepted. Todays rider only knows stop n hop. Most don't understand what we lost when this change happened. We lost turning skills, flow, transitions, the ability to pick a line and the ability to link moves together. Most importantly we lost FUN and credibility. Todays techniques are amazing and may not have evolved to the point where they are today without stop n hop but I feel the pendulum has swung too far and we need to regain some of what we have lost. I have told this story before but it bears repeating...... I was watching a section recently with 3 time National Champ and the last American to score World Pro points in Europe, Scott Head. After watching one particularly ugly demonstration of bike dragging and stop dabs..........Scott said to me "That just doesn't look like he is having any fun. I wonder if people know what they are missing"
  11. After a 5 year absence World Trials is back in the USA ! Confirmed for May 25-26 2013 http://www.cyclenews...merica-in-2013/
  12. For those paying attention.......this is only the begining. Read the PR carefully . Second paragraph " The first change concerns the sporting regulations" The final line reads "additional measures will be taken in the coming months"
  13. Agreed. Like the old saying says, "Decisions are made by those that show up"
  14. The youngsters will figure it out quickly. It's going to take the adults a bit longer.
  15. Where does it say they are banning trick riding? There is a serious lack of vision among some of you. This will create a new integrated riding style. What if we rename it Trick Riding with Motion. Does that help? Watch a Danny Mac video. He is all about motion. Some of the best parts of the vid are his transitional moves.
  16. Its Mark Eggar Calgary Canada WR 1975
  17. Our friends in Oklahoma http://www.neott.com/ stepped up and bought a box of Bernie. Thanks guys.
  18. The http://www.socaltrial.com bought a box of 45 books this weekend at the Endurocross. Thanks guys!
  19. So far, the response has been amazing. Thanks to WMTA Wyoming Trials club for their order. The Arizona club has doubled down and taken another box. Another gentleman who wishes to remain anonymous took a box of 45. Many clubs have inquired and if they all come through it will put a serious dent in this pile of boxes in my shop. Let's keep it going. 2 weeks to TdN. I been asked many times how our team is funded. It's all from the US Trials community, the clubs and riders, doing fund raisers. It pure grass roots. PS we will have TdN Team USA shirts available when we get back. and, Andy thank you for letting set up shop in your house.
  20. So far we have orders from the following clubs: NMTA New Mexico, CAT Arizona, RMTA Colorado, PITS Northern California, Also Tim Pilg of American Beta ordered a box. Thanks Guys.
  21. We (Team USA) are asking US clubs to support Team USA by buying a box of 45 Bernie Books. ...... The author Len Weed has had these stashed away in his storage locker for donkey's years... Everyone thought that this book was unavailable. Well here they are. After these are gone there are no more. Own a piece of history and a great learning tool. Bernie and Len did a great job of laying out the fundamentals of our sport....and the basics haven't changed. Timeless photos and great stories. These books are NOS originals. There is some slight cover discoloration on some books due to storage. Otherwise they are like new. Many clubs have already steppped up and ordered a box. They make great year end awards or use them instead of spending $$ with the trophy man. All proceeds to directly to the US TdN rider fund. The TdN is September 29,30 in Switzerland I would like to avoid selling one book at a time for now. If you want one please ask your club to buy a box. You can email me at martin@usmontesa.com http://www.americanm...tition/TDN.aspx
  22. Yes, that's true. I was refering to the era of the 70's because the ad in question was for an Ossa MAR.
