  1. It's a great reminder that the old school is the good school. Thanks Dustin.
  2. A great loss for our sport. Diego was a true champion. When he rode the US World Round in 99 at Watkins Glen NY on Montesa he pitted with us. He had sliced a sidewall on his rear tire. He came to me with cash in hand hoping to buy a tire. Can you imagine the humility of such a great champion? I laughed at his money and he looked at me like "crazy American" . Of course we mounted a new tire for him. 23 TdN's Ciao Diego. Andy, can we keep this topic pinned. Thanks.
  3. Chris, the 25 25 10 10 numbers are for matching the crankcase halves during production. The true serial is on the front motor mount. It should begin 21M... Based on the intake manifold my guess is it will be a number less than 21M0500. The carbs used on the early Cotas was an IRZ (spigot mount). It looks like you have an early model motor and tank with a later model frame, wheels and forks.
  4. Mr. Greeves, I don't know you and have nothing personal against you. I tired to be considerate in my post, I realized that this would be embarrassing for you, but if you were made to look foolish as I said " I'm sorry but you did it to yourself". All I did was shine a light onto your false statement. You have not admitted your mistake or apologized for spreading false rumors. My conversation with you is finished. Martin
  5. Ben, there was a quantity of left over 2009's. They were all sold during 2010/11.
  6. Greeves, I have no tolerance for rumor spreaders. If you are going to spread false rumors about Montesa I am willing to call you out on it, every time. If you don't like your comments being scrutinized here then you to be more careful what you say. Aggressive defense perhaps, bully no. Since you asked, my interest in Montesa began as friends in 1969 when we met then export manager Sr. Modesto Sole at a trials here in California. Over the years this friendship with the people of Montesa and the Permanyer family evolved, from facotry rider in US and Europe to employee at Montesa factory in Esplugues to Importer for the US market. I think it is reasonable for me to defend my friends and the truth. I make no claim to know everything about Montesa/Honda but I do know that what you said is not true. Time will tell and we may revisit this thread in the future to see who was right. Martin
  7. Hi Jack, its good to hear from you. When it comes to saying that "Montesa is over due for a new model" you can put me at the head of that line. Yes, the Montesa faithful have been tested, but I have faith in Montesa/Honda. The reality is that the current situation has left the door open for the rumor mill to flourish. This latest one by Greeves is comical. Sorry Greeves but you did it to yourself. Jack, you know as well as I do that there are those people in this business that manufacture rumors and spread them. For some, it a way of doing business. A good friend told me a story about his first job at a motorcycle shop. The owner instructed him to always tell people that the motorcycle shop down the street was about to go out of business. In the end it was them that went out of business. Some say rumors are a part of human nature. I say its a choice. I like what Socrates had to say about rumors. The fact is that Montesa (since 1969) and Honda (since 1974) have produced trials bikes longer than anyone else. I have faith in Montesa/Honda and I know that the rumor mongers and conspiracy theorists will be proven wrong. Martin PS say Hi to FujiKirk
  8. Really ??? Greeves, I am surprised that you would write something like this. You do yourself a disservice Sir. We live in an age of conspiracy theories. People will believe anything. I was at the factory in Spain in October. I wish I could have told them about this rumor. We would have all had a good laugh. Also the 2004 was the 315R model not 4RT.
  9. Early Cota 247's had white frames. In 72 they went to silver and 74 black. The Cota 123 came along in 72 so I believe it had a silver frame....not 100% sure. Here is a useful link with years and photos Montesaweb.com
  10. Montesw web The early cota 123 had silver/grey frames like the 1972 Cota 247 did. 1974 and onward the frames were black.
  11. Yes, early Cotas had white frames.
  12. Here is my 1969 Big Hub 247. She is a "rider". Only improvements are modern tires and Betor shocks. I like to keep it close to stock. MotoVintage I would encourage you to get your old 247 going again and put the big hubs and tank on. As you can see I have a soft spot for the old Cotas. Your 247 seems to be pretty original, you even have the valanced front fender.
  13. Here is the real story from Vegas. photo borrowed from VitalMX
  14. #1 is the great Manuel Soler, grand nephew of FX Bulto, multi time Spanish champion, first Spaniard to win a world round and all around great guy.
  15. I found this gem on You Tube. Thanks to whoever posted it..I wonder if there is more. Bernie was magic on the bike. Those of us that were fortunate to grow up riding with him knew that he was special. I just wish I could have been in Europe to see him ride during his championship year. Here you go Kramit Ventoux Classic trial Ventoux- Todo Trial report Floater USA = Pivot Turn UK Bernie pioneered the technique so I will go with his name for it, the Floater.

  19. TB is in the first year of a TWO year deal.
  20. The 2012 4rt is being produced as you read this.
  21. AC, no need to guess. Bou is staying, as always. I am in Spain as I write this. Saw the team this week and spoke with Toni Fuji Laia and team manager MC. This is all just a very weak rumor started by some silly Spaniard.
  22. Richard, you are a genius! When I think of all the grief that stupid diffuser gave us over the years..... I never thought of pitching it. What a simple solution. I love it.
