  1. Did you adjust the clutch action at the lever to make sure its fully disengaging? What oil did the previous owner use? Did he switch brands often? Clutch plates can swell up and drag when subjected to a cocktail of different oils. At this point for you just changing oils may not be enough. Try to rough up the metal discs with 300 paper.Metal discs that have worn smooth can cause drag. If all else fails than new plates are the answer. There are several options for replacement: Standard plates work well if you use the ELF oil, Honda CR 250 cork plates work well also SureFlex is good. Oils: ELF HTX 740 is the best. It may cost more initially but you can go longer between changes so the cost ends up the same as others. PJ1 Clutch Tuner works well but seems to degrade quickly requiring frequent changes. ATF is cheap but clutch actions is grabby.
  2. Here is a link to a very cool of the story of Kenny on the TZ at the Indy Mile. Clive, you were totally justified in grabbing the photo shoot. I would been tempted to bump start it and take a lap! Keeping the Montesa theme going here is a link to a picture of KR on a Montesa in his rookie year. KR rookie 80Y
  3. True Trials. Brilliant sections. Congrats to all.
  4. Ishy said it right. Nice to see proper sections. great to see Doug on the podium. Fantastic win for Fuji, great second lap. Well done Jake & Co.
  5. Fantastic piece of trials history. Thank you for sharing. Years ago, I was fortunate to find the Ossa prototype that Mick was riding in this film. My father and I restored it to its original glory. It is now in the hands of a Spanish collector.
  6. Thank you Andy for making my morning.
  7. Godspeed Magoo. You were the best. Racer X story Great story
  8. Clean Again!!! Fantastic. It' a a good day to be a Smage.
  9. What 4T rule? There never was a 4T rule. Everybody complains to the FIM.
  10. Why? Would you rather they ignore our sport? Like Suzuki, KTM, Aprillia, Kawasaki, Husqvarna etc....do?
  11. Tim, I am afraid that you are mistaken. Montesa/Honda have said that the World Team will continue and that production will resume on the 4RT (once the overstock is sold off) and a new updated model is in the works. As for who will topple Bou....I say he goes undefeated this year.
  12. That's more like it PS always felt this was a poor way to break a tie. A sudden death Ride-Off would be much better.
  13. Did you take these pictures John? Were you there? Interesting looking at their pit set up. Almost looks like a Ford van in pics 1 and 3. My guess...L to R Kip Webb, Marylin Wicker (Team Manager), Ryan Young, Mike West, Chuck West (Fantic Importer) Steve McNeal, Mike West ? I looked it up USA TdN website
  14. your best post ever John. rick, with 6739 units difference between motor and frame my guess is that you have a Cota 348 motor in a 349 frame. Look here for ID photos: Montesa Web You could also email Jared at Southwest Montesa for help with parts and ID post some pics to help us ID it Martin
  15. WOW, what a flashback. It is amazing to get a glimpse into your past of a day long gone. Thank you for posting these pictures. The other rider is my Montesa Teammate Rich Delaney. His son Ian is now a top rider on Team Sherco. I remember we stayed with the local dealer in Tucson and we had a good time. The old 247 looks like it is working well. I've got my Dunlop wellies on, my ski cap along with a Big John coveralls that were imported by Knobby Shop Int'l. Got the Bow-Legged stance going on. Not bad form. I still have that number plate. I always teased Bernie and author Len Weed that they left me out of the book. The 1974 NATC results were the first year of the US Nationals as a series. 1972 & 1973 were a 2 day (weekend) Championship and were organized by the MOTA club in Michigan. I rode the whole series in 74 and Bernie only rode 2 events and he still tied me for 9th in the series. Lots of good riders on that list. Thanks again. Martin
  16. Look at page 46. Bernie's is bunny hoping 14 people on a Bultaco SherpaT. Remarkable. I would like to see one of todays' top riders attempt that.
  17. What the heck Bob? What are you trying to accomplish with your comments? You have been around the sport a long time, so I am surprised to see you post something like this. You do yourself a disservice. What bothers me Bob, is the lack of gratitude you show the Montesa factory for their support of American riders. You say there has been "no direct factory support since 1993". Not true. Montesa has supported American trials riders in the USA and abroad for over 40 years. Martin PS: Hey Bob, I began importing in 1991. Montesa was bought by Honda in 1984. What significance does 1993 have? I don't even understand what your comments are doing in this thread.
  18. Andrew, I don't know how you reached that conclusion. 180 is only half of the work force at Montesa Honda. What do I know? Well, I know how to read a Press Release and understand what was said. You clearly did not so, I am just trying to help you with your comprehension. Merry Christmas Andrew
  19. Yes, Made in Spain ...you will however be required to use a full face helmet when you ride one.
  20. Got that quote from TodoTrial: Al llegar a Todotrial la noticia sobre el ERE de Montesa, contactamos con la marca y recibimos la siguiente contestaci

    New Ossa

Spoke with a friend at Ossa. I only asked him one question. Yes, they have a running prototype.
  22. I spoke with the Team Manager today and no mention was made of a move to Italy.
