  1. Kinell I spoke with the factory race shop mechanics today. Both Doug and Fuji were on identical standard motors for Sheffield. Martin Belair US Montesa
  2. Thanks for your response Nigel/Andrew. Sorry to put you on the spot like that but, it does seem to me that you put Sandifords and Montesa under the microscope more than with any other UK importer. This is my impression and that of many others. Many people have also told me that you are a good guy and different from the impression that you give online. I have a great fondeness for the Sandifords. They were supporting UK riders long before some of the other factories even existed. They have have supported their share of UK riders for 35 years. They have been generous to the sport and its riders in ways you will never know about. Anyone can micro analyze the activities of a factory or importer and find some sort of grist for the mill. The point is that this I don't think that this does our sport any good. If you have a problem with anyone I suggest that you sort it out with them off line. Now let's get back to enjoying our sport. Martin
  3. Ishy, "them bloody bikes" will be in Oregon on Monday the 10th. Sorry I won't be able to make the 3472 mile trip to your trial, but what people want to see is the bike, not me. It should be great fun. I wish I could be there. It is too cold here to ride, 4 degrees F. I expect a full report from you John. Cheers, Martin
  4. Quote from M4RT "Is that some kind of Tuchtor code". It is a Scott for sure, one that can't spell Teuchter properly. Teuchters are better known for thier partaking of a wee dram rather than their spelling. A Teuchter is a term used by Scottish city dwellers to describe someone from the Scottich highlands. Am I right Big John? Fess up Billy, I know it's you.
  5. The man has a legitimate question Nigel. Why won't you answer him? Martin Belair US Montesa
  6. That is good advise. Listen to the man Charlie.
  7. Trevor Kemp is president of Silkolene USA and lives in Texas. Silkolene has a great product line and they have been super supportive of our US Montesa team. Martin Belair US Montesa
  8. w'stone, one of the reasons for the delay is a slow supply of frames from Verlicci. they should be up to full speed soon. Martin
  9. munch, it is the last event of the 2004 season and the teams last scheduled event on the two stroke. Cheers, Martin
  10. Gordon, I hope this helps. They are great little bikes. Cheers, Martin 1980 Montesa Honda MH Cota 200 ESPECIALIDAD: Trial MODELO BASE: COTA TIPO MODELO: 200 C
  11. Amos Bilbao 1990 TdN France. I cheated. I had to look up the location. Am I still winning?
  12. Manuel Soler, Calgary WR 1975 What do I win?
  13. Cody, chances are that your bike is jetted correctly. I suggest that you try lowering the gearing to get the performance that you are looking for. Sprocket Specialists can supply you with any size sprocket. I suggest that you add 2 teeth (from 42 to 44). I have found that many riders that are used to vintage bikes find this to be a good solution. If you ever decide to try and change pilot jets (there are 2) please be careful and use the correct size screwdriver. It is possible to damage the carb and get the pilot jet stuck by using the wrong size screwdriver. If you have any questions you can always call me at 952 937 8720. Martin Belair US Montesa
  14. Great Ride Dennis! 46th overall and best American! Congrats to all who finished and thanks to the organizers and observers. Martin Belair US Montesa
  15. For those of you that may not be aware, American Dennis Sweeten is the lone US rider at the SSDT this year. Dennis got off to a rough start on Monday and was out of the top 100, but has since pulled himself into the top 50. Wednesday he had a very respectable 18 point day. Dennis owns Apex Sports in Oregon and is the Montesa parts distributor for the US. http://www.trialscentral.com/cms/showartic...p?articleID=409 Martin Belair US Montesa
  16. Charlie, the stock Montesa clutch is very progressive. It has 4 cork and 3 friction plates. The friction plates give it a smooth engagement point. Does you friends bike have the stock plates in it? What oil is he using? ATF will make the clutch very quick and grabby. It is not recomended. We recomend Silkolene 75 wt "Light Gear oil Off-Road" or ELF HTX 740. I am glad that you like the bike. I like it too. Martin Belair US Montesa
  17. t_wimp, your bike should have a Dellorto PHBH 26CS. The Montesa carb was changed in 2001 to Dellorto PHBL 26BS. The jetting is not the same for these two carbs. For your carb the 44 pilot is good, the main jet should be 125 -128. This will get you close. The rest will be fine tuning. Are you using leaded or unleaded fuel? Martin Belair US Montesa
  18. Boy Wonder, what spark plug did you put in it? You must use a resistor type plug. Use Bosch WR8DP or NGK BR 6ES I am not sure what you mean by: "i was riding along and if keeped jumping (every time it ticked over)." If your bike does not roll well while in neutral, the problem is either the brakes, chain or the wheel bearings. Put your bike up on a stand, take off the chain and try to find out what is preventing the wheels from turning freely. When you cleaned the carb, did you clean the choke slide? 19. Beautiful bike! Great restoration. Thanks for sharing Johnny. Any idea who owns it? Martin Belair US Montesa
  20. Two Wheel Tuesday on Speed at 10:30 eastern time will have trials from the TTC staring: Chris Florin, David Chaves, Tommi Ahvala and Ray Peters. Spread the word. That means you Gernhardt. Martin Belair US Montesa
  21. Dear Mr. dfwilson, Montesa never demised. Montesa has produced motorcycles, without interruption since 1945. As Yogi Berra said "You could look it up". VIVA Montesa, Martin Belair US Montesa
  22. Bill, it is for European unleaded gas. Just put it in your tool box and forget about it. The Montesa is jetted perfect right out of the box. Use a 50/50 mix of pump and race gas (105 octane) with Silkolene Comp 2 plus synthetic 2 stroke oil at 80:1. If you have any other questions you can reach me at martin@usmontesa.com Martin Belair US Montesa
  23. Never mind!! The one I saw this AM must have been a replay of yesterdays Sports Center. Tonights show is different. Those guys sure can throw stuff. Martin
  24. ESPN Sports Center is running a clip today of the final race of the Koblenz Indoor trial. It is shown during the last 10 minutes of the program in a feature called Top 10 Plays of the Week. It is only about 20 seconds long, but making it onto Sports Center is a big deal for our sport. It is on at 5 pm and 10 pm. Check you local listings. Martin Belair US Montesa
