Three different sets of flags. Red/Blue for the Hard course, Yellow and white for the middle course and Green and Orange for the Easiest. Only thing was that the Orange was a bit close to the red and could cause confusion.

Over 100 Riders at Tong for the Horsforth Club and over 70 At the Yeadon And Guiseley Club Trial at Addingham on the same day! Both Trials had very healthy Small Wheelers entries as well. Even the Spen Valley Trial at Harden Moor the previous day in appalling weather had 38 riders! Looks like the clubs hard work with courses is paying off.

If the clothing makers are "pulling" rank I'd suspect they have scored a massive "own goal" Much as they are the major sponsors I cannot believe anybody will want to buy anything from a company who can pull a stunt like this. If this had been a round of the X series I suspect the FIM would have looked at this very dimly.

I know of two OSSA's ridden regularly in the Yorkshire Centre along with the Area's Demo bike so the customer bikes are out there. I suspect the problems are to do with the "racing" version.

I'd arrive earlier to get parked. Parking is extra by the way so make sure you have some cash to pay for it. There is little free parking close by and most of that is patrolled by wardens.

We had this after the forks were dissembled. Some Swarf got in and blocked the flow of the Fork Fluid. Quick clean and all was well.

Yes it was cancelled and Spen Valley "lost" their trial at Harden Moor at the last minute. On a Positive Front West Leeds got the Presidents Trial ON and it was a Good day out!!

I have been informed by Sue Smith, the Centre secretary that the CoC considers the conditions too dangerous.

The Wetherby Bottle trial at Leadmines near Greenhow on the 27th has been called off due to the weather. Bradford's Boxing day Trial has also been called off.

Only With the permission of Yeadon-Guiseley & DMC providing the "days" have not been used up. As John Lampkin and Jack are prominent members they can usually get permission. I have to say that NYL looked and didn't think it was Addingham but it was close. I do know that the Lampkin's do have access to land fairly close by.

We just join all the local clubs when we enter. Only time you have to declare a club is when you enter Centre or National Events.

I think bigfoot has hit the nail on the head. Rules don't matter, severity of the course does. No Stop is not a panacea. Trials do become easier when the rules are adopted but then as riders get used to them the scores come down and the courses have to become harder to get the marks off them. You see it though the year in club championships. The first trials are relatively easy but as the CoC try and stop several riders cleaning or having low marks all the time the rider numbers drop. It seems we have a large section of riders who love claiming they "cleaned" the trial or were "close" to a top rider, and who are put off by higher scores even if they do win!!! The "magic" formula is a course for club riders that "could" be ridden without hopping. A hard course that demands it but also puts in the "thrills" those riders need, and a 50/50 missing out those hard sections where the "Thrilling" bits could cause them problems. I would also say that Long sections are OK providing you don't need a GPS to navigate them!!! Some this year had riders in contortions.

Okay it's just in the Yorkshire area but Jack Challoner has made "Look North" with an interview about his invitation to compete in the XTrial at Sheffield. John Lampkin also makes an appearence. I couldn't see who the "three wise men" were watching Jack At Addingham Moorside.

Firstly the age of the Youth is relevant as He/She should be accompanied. Most B and A class riders I know can give as good as they get and still have somebody at the trial as a "responsible" Adult. Secondly If they had not approached their "responsible" Adult first get that Adult and get them to talk to the child. They "know" the child and will find out what the problem is and "how" they have been terrified. You then have the facts from their side. I would also approach the Observer/s at the section/s involved and get their view if they have one. Then Approach the rider and get their side of the story. In some cases they may have acted to prevent an accident or in defence if they thought they were going to be hit by the child. Finally you have to have other evidence. Adults can be intimidating to children and most adults don't like getting involved with other peoples children these days. At the end of the day the child should have had an Adult present if they are under 16 and they should be at the trial and they should bring it to your attention.

Many Clubs tried and failed to create one course for all riders. It's not feasible without top locals complaining about the course being too easy, and clubmen complaining it's too hard. Hence the split in courses at Club events. We also now have separate events for the Novice and Beginner which are very successful. Even Centre and National events have easier classes. These let our top national riders compete on the same event with the best club and centre riders. It's a matter of where you want to pitch your event and you have to listen to ALL the riders not just those who Always turn up.

As I continually point out both rules MAKE SENSE. Most Riders Like the freedom to stop even if they are not "Hoppers". Mainly this is because most trials set out as "No-Stop" cannot be ridden this way. The so called "problem" with rider numbers goes back to the Foot and mouth of the early years of the Century. Youth riding was decimated and has only just started to recover. We also lost riders to MX and Enduro on "closed course" events. Some of these are coming back but we need to maintain venues that will not be affected in the Future. In the Yorkshire Centre Spen, West Leeds, Horsforth and Yeadon Guiseley all run to "Stop" or TSR22A and get good entries. Of those that run TSR22B the biggest entries are at the Acklams Ripon Evening trials where the course is pretty easy. That shows one thing, some riders just will not entertain a trial where they drop too many marks. Where is the challenge?? A course that only puts you up a minor obstacle in a section is not going to make a centre or National Rider. Getting the balance is difficult but Forcing rule changes could only cause further damage to Trials. As a further thought Yeadon Guiseley until 2 years ago ran to TSR22b and suffered from numbers dropping. The rules were changed to TSR22A and we have seen the numbers stay the same at Club Trials, and improve at Novice/Beginners. Centre Trials seem to rely on Location and reputation.

I have heard it at Youth nationals!!! If you are doing "big" stuff the clutch screams. In the UK the guy who did the competition clutch seems to have folded but you might be able to source one from somewhere else. I believe the KTM is the correct one but I'd wait for confirmation.

Don't discount the OSET at this age if you feel the REV50/GAS GAS Cadet 50 too big. The OSET has advantages as it can be used in a garden or field without attracting Plod's attention. It is also easier to transport and you don't need the "backup" bits a Petrol engined bike has.

Which rules are you running??

They all do the job. You have to try them to find the best for you. SIDI Trials Zero are a popular choice but many find them too "soft" as they prefer a "harder leather". The HEBO Technicals are a really good boot as well.
