Explains the ugly mug But surely you aren't that young! But seriously glad to see it did no real harm.
Boy Hurt in Trials

North Yorkshire Lad has been riding in "On & Off" kit all year. It has held up better than the Hebo kit he had before. As usual he is growing out of it so we'll be looking at getting some more. I would prefer he stay with the On& Off kit as it has been so good.

And I'd like to congratulate The Yeadon Guiseley team of James Dabill, Ben Hemingway and Dan Hemingway that finished on 21 in total and won the Haggas Shield for best overall performance. Cracking!!!!!!!

Generally speaking as it leaves the factory the bike is setup correctly for the majority of riders. You'll only need to "fiddle" if the settings have been changed. The only other change really is to increase the rebound on the rear if you like to "hop" the bike around a bit. Even then be gentle on the changes so it can be reset if you find it gets too lively over the rocks.

Your best bet would be to contact Hillsborough club and also the Barnsley Club. The web address for Hillsborough is Hillsborough and Barnsley's is Barnsley.
If you want to use the MX'er then Armthorpe near Doncaster is open and your nearest dealers would be RPM Motorcycles and <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> Trialsport

Yeadon Guiseley, Scarborough and Richmond run in Yorkshire.
The Abergavenny Youth Trial is in South Wales.
Then we have Otter Vale in Devon, The Kent Youth and the Surrey Schoolboys with the Isle Of Wight running last in the series this Year. These are all south of London
There is a North South split here with clubs like Mansfield not running a trial there is a big gap in the middle of the country where no Youth A/B was run. Having checked the C/D's as well the trials are in the same areas.
This means that the "Yorkies" and the South coast appear to have the trials with only the Welsh also willing to put in the effort.

I thought Richmond's was quite a good one! One or two of the sections were a bit long and testing leaving a few riders on the deck and hurting but it did sort them out.

As a Dad myself the main problem here is not the ACU or clubs, it's the low profile of the sport. My Son really enjoys his Weekends and I put a lot of time and money into it with the support of my wife. However whereas when you talk to others who "do" football, cricket, tennis, squash and moto-x, you find that support from local companies is more forthcoming as they "know" those sports. Trials does not get that sort of coverage. The money that goes into the sport in Spain comes from a base of motorcycle fans who follow all Motorcycle sport and the fact they have the factories there. Let's face facts, if I want to keep NYL progressing I might get some local support providing the results keep coming. But to do that I have to get him to the nationals with a bike capable of getting him into those crucial top places. Ans thats the problem. You have to invest continually. And not just in a bike. In a van or motorhome to do those crucial trials and on and on.........
To Be honest I have not even considered asking the ACU for help. I know how little money the clubs have so the ACU cannot get much more from trials. The importers are the major supporters of riders and they don't make much either. A total "sale" of 1,000-2,000, (which is probably optimistic), bikes between all the importers does not make for a massive "pot" to sponsor the riders.
That leaves the Riders at Trials via either the "registration" card or the ACU "levy". Most clubs haven't upped the entry fees for Trials for years despite the insurance and levy amounts having been increased at some stage in that time becuase they don't want to see the entries drop. Don't forget as well that most clubs have to make some sort of payment for land use, have to pay towards officials.
What we have is a "deadly embrace". Not much money in the sport means it is difficult to get more money in the sport. "Kick Start" was a boon to Trials and helped setup the Indoor events but any other type of Trial is difficult to cover for TV. Hence the low level of coverage. Maybe a "Street" Trials event in a city centre will work.
So no answer's, but a lot of questions. How to get Trials noticed being the biggest.
Lastly, The A & B Class events we have attended have been amongest the best supported and most competitive events in the Trials calendar. Only the Novogar and "Classic" events attract similar numbers and that must mean despite all the drawbacks that Dad's (and Mum's!!!).face that some people DO notice it. There is hope but the current youth riders may not see it.
-
That's true, the Trial is being held in December because no dates have been finalised between the FIM and Octagon and you cannot hold an International Indoor in 2007 until those dates are resolved. Hence The december date. I gather Dougie, Adam Raga etc were signed up last month to ride and others will no doubt follow.

Any online? NYL had a couple of friends there.

These were promised a while ago Did they not turn out??

Jesus it seems we lose some good people lately. My Sympathy to Paul Hunter's Family, friends and fans. A Yorkshireman who would not buckle and has sadly lost the fight!!!!

The Current Situation is that Bradford Council are trying to shut down the venue but the farmer is refusing the requests and until then he is happy to let riders use the venue.
As for directions The village is signed from both sides of the Silsden Addingham road. I come up the Bypass from Ilkley to the Roundabout and take the Silsden exit,(first left). Then take the slip road on the left and head up the Hill. Its narrow at the bottom and widens as you go up. You will get to a Crossroads at the top. Turn right on to Brown bank Lane and go down the road a few hundred yards. Then Turn left into Light Bank Lane. Form Silsden you turn right and keep going until you see Light Bank Lane on the right. Its narrow so take care. The entrance is on the left. The Fothersgill's keep sheep on the land so make sure you shut the gate behind you and don't leave any rubbish.

Tried various waxes and they help but the Socks are the best. I did get some from wiggle but found our local dealer Woosters stocks them as well,Woosters

From The A650 Head for Bingley's Centre where you'll find a set of traffic lights. If you are coming from the Bradford side turn right, from Keighley, left. This road is Park Road and it crosses the river and By-pass. Head up the hill and keep an eye out for Lady Lane on the Left. Turn into Lady Lane and follow the road up. The Venue is on the left. It Will be flagged from Park Road.

A round of the Yeadon-Guiseley Beginners series at Deer Park, Bingley. Saturday the 7th October, Starts at 2PM and the weather is supposed to be fine(crosses fingers ).

If the Beta isn't an option then have a look at the Sherco and the Clipic. The Clipic is smaller and according to NYL felt pretty good alongside the Beta. The Sherco's lock has been addressed by the "cut-out's" on the frame and you can buy the 125, (superior cycle parts) and fit the 80 barrel to allow her to compete. Also I would defend the Beta. On both the 50 and 80 they take a lot of punishment and keep coming back for more.
-
What's happening at Addingham is that The council have asked the farmer to shut the venue and the Farmer is basically rufusing to do it. I believe that the council have requested a lock be put on the gate and that was refused as well. Basically they are still happy for Trials riders to use the land. Hence look after them and the land when you are there.

NYL Uses SealSkinz Socks. The Long ones are best but be wary about washing them!
-
Yeadon-Guiseley will be running a Practice session for members at Dob Park on Saturday the 30th September at 2:00 pm. It will be primarily set out for Beginners and Juniors and a small fee will be charged to Cover Insurence and Levy.

Looks like the "Hamster" is out of danger now! Lets hope "Top Gear" returns soon!
-
The World Trials round does not look like it will be at Hawkstone Next year due to problems with the "locals". Hence you may have to wait for that one. Most of the British Nationals should be around the same time next year so it depends where you are in the country. If you want to follow the "classic" trials As well as "Big John"'s excellent suggestion of the SSDT, there's the "Scott" and the Reeth Three Day in the North Yorkshire area. It really depends when you here, where you will be staying and how much time you have to spare.
-
I think they just had an unlucky break. Plod was looking into something else and hung around like a bad smell.
-
One of my favourite motoring Journalist's injured doing what he loved. Get well soon Hamster!!

Don't know we had one 14 year old slip past us a few years back.
Weren't they pushing bikes into Vans and moving them between groups of sections at one trial a while back when the BIB showed up a while back????
