December 29, 201411 yr Hi,please could someone advise the best mixture ratio for a 2001 gasgas txt 250 and also a 2000 beta mini trial. I'm new to the sport and don't want to knacker the bikes up through ignorance. Many thanks

December 30, 201411 yr 100 to 1 will work if you are just putting about mostly. Harder running requires more oil and those mini things can be high revving! Seems most run at 80 to 1 or so, using good oil of full or semi synthetic spec.

Again For the 3rd or 4th time Save us more like the 100th time I run my gasgas on 50:1 but thats because I like my engine and I Run my air-cooled bikes at 40:1 I don't get more smoke than anyone else (in fact my gasgas runs very clean) & I never had any problems with blocked or dirty exhausts. December 30, 201411 yr Whatever ratio you end up using, it's worth measuring the oil accurately. I use a medical syringe to draw the oil up and apply it into the fuel can, before adding the petrol. This ensures that if, for example, I'm using a 50:1 ratio I measure and use exactly 100ml of oil for 5 litres of petrol, as opposed to pouring oil into a jug then decanting into the fuel can which invariably leaves some of the oil on the sides of the jug.
December 30, 201411 yr I'll second that - don't rely on the markings on the bottle. I once checked these using my usual syringe and the markings were well out meaning that not enough oil would have been used. Not good at modern ratios.
December 30, 201411 yr 70ml in 5 litres using Castrol TTS, and I would always measure accurately and mix it well before use.
December 30, 201411 yr Author Thanks for the advice fellas, 0007 i apologise if i have re-surfaced an age old debate lol
December 31, 201411 yr 140/1 for my 2011 Ossa TR280i.Had it for two yrs now.The previous owner ran 100/1.The motor is out right now and I'm pulling the cylinder this weekend.Be interesting to see what it looks like.
December 31, 201411 yr Reminds me of yet another thing I love about the 4rt, Think I'd rather put a bit if oil in a can than change oil and filter, and adjust tappets on a 4t.
December 31, 201411 yr Had my 4rt since 06, and checked the valves twice, and they have never needed any adjustments. In fact the bike has "Never" let me down , and more importantly never failed to start. I have kept it in case I don't get on with the new Beta.....
