Merlin Cagiva problems
Hi There, I did notice that , but there is no problem with the strength of the spark, it just seems to be firing at the incorrect time. This points me ( no pun intended ) towards the CDI or the Hall sensor. I think I have a long journey ahead. Chrs Bruce

Merlin Cagiva problems
Looks like you have damage on the lighting coil?, potentially also damage to the ignition or pulse coil or even the damaged lighting coil is affecting the other coils. Have you got the resistance values for the various coils?

New to trials and need some advice to join a club near edinburgh
Hi ...... a complete newbie to trials here. Just purchased a 2022 Beta 2t EVO 200 ..... putting ink to paper tomorrow. Delivery in a coupl of weeks. I stay in edinburgh and understand that I need to join a local club in order to obtain my SACU membership. I have looked at a couple of facebook pages etc but can't seem to find a way to actually apply for membership to these clubs. Im looking for somewhere thst catets for complete beginners with beginner type trials. Can anyone point me in the right direction. As mentioned, my bike wont be here for a couple of weeks at least but I'd like to pop along in advance and meet some folks and see what goes on. I work away mon to friday ( Orkney ) so weekends would suit best. Many thanksin advance for anybody who can respknd with some suggestions. Cheers toto

Merlin Cagiva problems
Hi guys. Would any of you happen to have a Merlin, who could maybe tell me what the complete part number is on the Kokusan CDI. I do know that Merlin used two systems, Kokusan and Dansi. As you can see from my photo, I only have CU 21. There are more digits or numbers after that. Thks Bruce

TRRS ONE RR 80CC 2024
I had the same problem. After 3 cracked clutch cases, failed waterpump seal, and a very unstable idling engine all within 10 hours of driving I had enough of it. Although everything was very well taken care of by the dealer i wanted a bike without problems. It was my daughters bike and she couldn't drive for several months or we had to share my trs one 250. So i traded it in for 2024 125 one rr. Flawless, no issues, just driving and cleaning....

I miss my '18 125, never should have traded down for this perpetual problem. Not liking any of my options from this point, fix it, flog it, replace it.

Update # 3: Cracked clutch case between the kick starter & fill plug @ 155 hours. Gear box oil everywhere, cutting the ride & the season, short. I am amazed it lasted that long based on others experiences & the # of times I have to kick to light the fire (3-7, cold or warm, in neutral). TRS has "updated " the part for 2026, same part # 03031MT100. KTM part # 47030001100 is interchangeable.

Wtc finished?
I disagree. He's spoken out numerous times that the FIM's attempts to try and lower the difficulty of trials is not the direction trials needs to go. He's said that outdoor trials need to become more like the indoor events, a show, more dynamic and shorter duration. People listen to that and the WTC has evidently went that way the last couple of years. Does he genuinely believe this or does he want trials to continue on the direction that suits him, so he can win another 40 titles? He's said that kids entering the sport want this modern style of trials and that non stop was outdated. I disagree with everything he says, I think he is very far removed from grass roots trials, and ultimately WTC does have an effect on the sport at grass roots.

Hi thank you. But that engine is coming out as I have the original to replace it. I also have another spare engine. I need original forks for it though if you know of any?

I would suggest moving the kick start lever back to the original vertical position. The moving of the lever more clockwise to give more purchase always ended in disaster as there is a stop built in to the kick start shaft which eventually punched a hole through the crankcase.

Hello. Over 50 years ago I used to watch a guy wash off his montesa cota 247 and thought it was the prettiest bike I’d seen. I now have a 1971 mk cota which I want to rebuild to factory. However what I have is like triggers broom a mismatch of parts from various years and models so it could be a challenge. I’m hoping this resource might help me.

Kenda ibex rear tyre?
@RonH . Sorry to see you are confused about the fact that some manufacturers tyres/tires are considered to be grippy enough for them to be the choice of top riders and therefore also a club riders choice , but of course when Toni Bou and other top riders start using Ibex/CST/Pirelli or Mitas tyres/tires then those tyres will be proven to be a serious choice for competition and can be added to the list of confusing choices. Hope that this helps you. Best wishes Alan.

Spectators and riders numbers at WTC events do not matter . It is bike sales that are the problem. If NEW bike sale numbers do not go up soon then manufacturers will shut their doors and therefore there will be no world championship to watch.

I went to the Andorra round this year and it was a packed, great event. The same at Geddington last year (Anglesey looked rubbish for spectators this year). I don’t think the world rounds are dead at all. It won’t reflect club trials the same as Tiger Woods doesn’t reflect a golf club event. Manufactures are however dropping their full factory teams. Although they are still represented in the supporting classes. If you ran Vertigo, TRS or Scorpa would you run a full factory team with absolutely no chance of beating Bou? Is it worth that cost? It’s not Bou’s fault and he’s breathtaking to watch. They’ve tried to mix things up with the super tests etc in the same way Formula 1 did with sprint races when that also became uncompetitive. As a spectator in Andorra, it didn’t work. We didn’t have a clue what was going on. At Andorra, the sections were impossibly hard. Really, only 3 riders could actually ride them. The other 6 riders in Trial 1 really struggled. At the bottom of the field, some riders didn’t make genuine attempts at the sections. Then Bou rode them like the easy course at a club trial. He dropped 3 marks over 2 full days of trialing. When he retires, perhaps the sections will ease, more riders can compete and factory teams will return.

Oxford Ixion Mcc.. 4th round club Champs
Report Ken O'Brien Pics Gary Dowzal Steeple Hill Corner at Folly Farm Beckley was the venue and 50 plus turned out on May 10th for the final Ixion Sunday morning meeting of the summer being the last round of the 2026 club championship also. Maybe the Nationwide or Local bad weather forecast had put a few off and on this note the course plotters decided we don't want a National on our hands if the heavens open so eased-sections were marked-out on all routes. However we set off in the sun with a cold breeze to tackle four laps of ten sections with rooted cambers, Big Hills and Nadgery streambeds to name a few of the hazards on offer today. In the Expert class John Cowley Beta Syncro 300 put in a spectacular performance losing 2 marks, one of which was applied on the very first section on lap one, a down hill sandy bank with a tricky uphill hop over a fallen tree, this prod was necessary or the Big Five was on the cards. John Lee 300 Evo took runner-up spot on 10 marks lost with an unfortunate 5 adding to his tally at section 5 a newly cut out ditch crossing after a fierce looking stricken tree crossing. 50/50 class riders were led home by Ian Watts also 300 Beta, Ian lost 5 marks today compiling a sprinkling of dabs at various subs along the way. Andrew Earnshaw TRS 300 was a single mark behind with section nine proving a bit of a bugbear the Culvert section with several turns through the wet stuff. The well populated Yellow route Clubman class saw Paul Millhouse Vertigo Nitro 300 give a clean pair of heels and boots to all with an inch perfect ride. Adrian Steele and Alan Taylor took the minor placings although both were cleaning the difficult section 7 with ease as the gathered crowd looked on, a very rocky uphill stream with water carrying up the exit bank to make for a tricky end for most. Paul Hadingham was superb on the ageing 340 Bultaco in the Twinshock and 4 was his tally after four laps, section six took a prod at precisely the right place to avoid a higher penalty, an undulating affair though Wild Garlic with the occasional tree to negotiate. Joe Pusey eased to victory in the Youth A with 21 mark ride and with machine gremlins at work it was a decent effort. Another very popular class is the 50/50 Middle - Easy route and once again it was DOT WR250 mounted Chris Aylott who took the honours ahead of Gordon Pusey twelve marks to nineteen. Section 4 was proving a tad tricky on this route with Chris taking a steady two on his first lap, a slight downhill cambered turn then a boggy rise to some awkwardly growing boughs and roots with many lines that changed often over the duration of the event. The eased White course as usual had a mix of young and old in the Sportsman class and Simon Dowling Beta was the man to beat once again, pre race favourite Simon didn't disappoint with a controlled ride losing 4 marks. Section eight took half his total on the first visit to ' Axford's Ditch ' and old fashioned type hazard of one hundred yards crossing and Zig-Zagging with a steep slick exit to the end cards. Mick Clarkson 185cc Bantam was victorious in the Pre 65 losing a miserly 3 marks all day. Many thanks to all who helped on the day. Next Trial is the Ivan Davis Cup September 13th.
