Hi All, I am back with another question regarding the 1977 TY250 493 I am working on. I am in the process of replacing the crank seals and, I got the left hand side out with no problems, but the right hand side, the clutch side, is giving me problems. I got the crankshaft gear removed with no problems. I have to remove the clutch basket to get to the seal retainer. And I got the clutch plates removed, but I am not sure which hand thread it is on the clutch basket nut. Looking at the few threads that are exposed it looks like a left hand thread, which makes sense since the crank shaft nut was a right hand thread and these turn in the opposite direction. I have an Dewa…

I am currently rebuilding a TY 80 and was wondering if anybody can help me with a few queries. First of all can you tell me if the kickstart shaft from a DT, RD or TY 50 would be compatible with it. Next I would like to know what jetting to use as I am going to remove the oil pump to run it on premix as the pump is leaking and I don't know whether it will be reliable enough, and lastly what is the correct amount of oil to put in the forks as I will be changing the seals. I look forward to your replies thanks. No doubt there will be more questions by the tme I have finished.

I have had a bad set of shocks on one of the TY250's (leaking). Had a set of 14" shocks with great dampening but fairly heavy springs (don't know weight rating). I put these on this morning and then went out and rode several sections. When you went over an 18" log the front wheel cleared great....then the back wheel hit.... it was like dragging a brick over the log. It really showed me how much difference the spring rate of a shock effects the ride quality. We are so used to making minor changes that something like this really proves a point. Just thought I would share. Alan

Just a quick one, (ooh err missus) does anyone know if bushes are the same for 175 and 250 twin shock, need some today and my local dealer is showing stock of 250 but not 175 bushes. Found out now (cos some I had on order have just arrived) that they are the same so if you want some from (i.e Jk Hirst) then you can order 250 ts bushes for 175 and vice versa.

I've just bought an 86 TY mono that I'm restoring to ride, it's fitted with a Talon rear hub and wheel, took the tyre off tonight to find the wheel is tubeless!......how common were these rims / hubs?. The front wheel is the std Yam DID rim which needs replacing, the rear rim looks in good condition if a little faded (gold anodised)....how much are new rims these days or would it be cheaper to get the rear re-anodised?...........I'd quite to respoke the rims myself.

I dont know if anybody is interested but the TY trials club in France is organising an event centred in Paris on the 21st june. For only TY's of any capacity from 50 cc up, there will be a grand tour of Paris taking in all the well known tourist sights and some not so well know. Bikes have to be taxed and insured ...........Remember the Tour de Effel was scaled by a JCM perhaps its time to try again. If of interest the man to contact is Christoph c.barrow@wanadoo.fr Longest wheelie down the Champs Elysees....... etc etc.. Frenchie
