Hi guys! Just recently done a great trial down at frensham vale! great but with very tight turns with hardly any run up on the climbs this combined with the sandy/loamy soil high lighted the fact that the yams gearing is to high im running 10/41 sprockets on the bike! i feel that i ll need a 44/45 final rear sprocket! but does this make it to low? as i was using 1st /2nd gears at first but had to do the lot in first gear in the end! as found i had to abuse the clutch to much when riding in second! any input on this would be great!

Hello TYers. I've just picked up a pretty neat pinky and I have a few of questions I was hoping somebody may be able to help me with? 1) What is the recommended way of sticking the seat flush to the plastic seat piece? I guess the obvious choice may be super glue but I'm a bit weary and don't want to damage the plastic, and also avoid messy excess glue? 2) Is it still easy to get pink mudguards and transfers? 3) I've been playing around with the rear shock settings a bit, trying to make as soft and lively as possible, like a more modern bike, hopefully making it easier to jump the back end around a bit. Have had a fair bit of success altering simply the compression a…

Hi - My TY250 mono has the dreaded scratch on front fork slide situation, which isn't horrendous but it is damaging the seal. It doesn't look like the previous owner has tried to do anything with it, but I remember several people telling me about a simple fix which works involving super glue and then maybe some sort of ultra fine sandpaper/file, or is it "wet and dry"? I need to sort it before replcing the seals. Thanks

Can anyone tell me what tool is required to remove the front wheel spindle on a TY250mono (I'm told "S" version circa 1987)? It looks to me like a Torx or something similar. I also read on a forum somewhere that a 12mm Allen wrench will do - but I don't want to risk rounding the head. If it's a special tool, where could I get one from? Regards : Martin

Hi All, I just picked up a 93 TYZ, from what I have read here it's a solid bike. I do however need your help with a few things, a manual, a copy anything please...... The clutch is sticking, I looked at past posts and will try these ideas, my question is how to remove the clutch cover, anything to watch for such as the waterpump drive. Don't want things falling out when I have no manual...... Thanks for your time folks...... Regards Larry(Canada)

Hi Just picked up on behalf of a friend, a 1993 TYZ bargain in very useable nick - and it has had its fuel capacity increased by utilising the void inside the large frame spar!! - just wondered if any of you yammy boys have ever heard of this conversion? apparently it was for the SSDT?? Very professional looking job complete with a neat looking little breather stub protruding from the frame just in front of the coolant filler cap! Any idea who may have carried this work out and for who?? Cheers jumbostu

My new to me pinky isn't running right, sputters for a bit then surges with the power coming back on. I'm going to cleam out the carb but would like to have some spare plugs for future problems. So which model plug will work best with this bike, someone posted a B6ES plug cause it runs hotter, but also read somewhere the B8ES works too. What is the stock plug #, and what should I be running with, maybe a hotter one? Thanks Guys.

My 74 250TY currently has a kickstart on it from some model of Honda. It works but is a bit too long. I have the original lever but not the splined boss. I have seen very similar parts from period Yamaha dirt bikes but part numbers all differ. I'm sure some of these must be the same. Does anyone have any cross-over part number information, or have used any of these parts?

Hey guys, I've been lurking here for a while because I've narrowed down my choice of bike to a TY250 mono and this seems the best place on the net for info, you guys here are great. So I have just came across both a late 80's TY250, could be a pinky too haven't seen it yet, and a 85 or 86 TY350. Both sellers happen to be asking the same price!! I have heard good things about both models but I've also read a few negative things on the 350. This is my first trials bike and will mainly be using it to learn on and having some fun camping and stuff like that. Im 6'1" and 200lbs with gear. I would like to hear some more opinions on the better of these two bikes, will…

Just got my new to me TY350, I plan on running Maxima Castor pre mix oil in it (love the smell of castor and couldn't find any Klotz). I plan on draining the tank (smells of old gas) and refilling with 93 octaine(US) but I'm not sure of the advised pre-mix ratio. Is 32-1 a good place to start. Its been a long time since I mixed premix for a 2 stroke. 1968 Penton Six days, in 1970. After that all my 2 strokes were injected. My service manual is in the snail mail somewhere.... One more question, one time I turned on the gas and gas poored out of the carb overflow.... the next time it was fine. My diagnosis is sticking float.... sound right ? Thanks in advance Mike

i have just re-built the bottom end on a ty175 i bought as a basket case, thing is it wont run off tickover unless the choke is pulled out. i have dismantled the carb twice and i am confident that its ok. it starts first kick, ticks over, but refuses to run if i try and open the throttle, as i say, if i then pull the choke on it will rev cleanly for a few seconds untill it then chokes up. any ideas?

Does anyone know if it is possible to but a TY250 Mono Seat from anywhere? I know there is a one piece tank and seat unit but i would like to keep the seperate tank / seat arrangement. I have a nice cover for the tank on its way so i just need to make my nasty seat look nice. Can you still buy seats (apart from Yamaha ones that are way expensive)? Does anyone make a pattern one? Thanks, Darrell

I just picked up an 86 TY 350. I haven't been able to locate an owner's or service manual for it yet. Does anybody have handy the capacities of the Tranny and forks. I always like to change out fluid's when I pick up a bike. I've been refered to B&J Racing for parts, any other good sources? Would the 85 and 86 service manual be about the same, I found a reprint of the 85 TY350 service manual available at Yamaha dog. Thanks in advance Mike

I have been wanting a TY250A for ever. Ever since I worked at a Yamaha shop when I was 16 at the parts counter in 1974. I finally picked up a clean TY250A. Got a great deal on it too. I have been restoring it over the last two weeks and have gotton it almost perfect. I wish I knew how to post pics or I would!

A friend of mine has aquired a 320 majesty for restoration and I noticed the exhaust has a different header pipe that crosses over the cylinder head, is this normal for a 320 or has it been modified?

  19. Hello everyone, I am planning to rebuild my engine later on in the year, and was wondering about a few things. I am going to give it a new big end and little end, along with main bearing etc, the plan is to do it all at once then I won't need to strip it again for a while. If it needs a rebore, I want to take it out to 270, but I also will want to get the inlet shortened and get the head and the top of the barrel machined down a bit to raise the compression. I have heard that Birketts are the best place to get this done, but do they have a website I could look at? If not does anyone have a phone number to hand for them? I also have a very large amount of modifications…

I was just wondering if anyone had a copy of a manual for a 1974 TY250. I just bought the bike and I think a manual would really speed the process up in getting it running. I was looking for a one online although I haven't found anything except for one on eBay that is a CD. I just thought I would ask if anyone knew of one that is an online copy before I bought one. Thanks
