Anyone have this problem? 6 out of 10 prods on the kick start & it slips round on the shaft. Can the problem be rectified with access via clutch case removal or do you have to go any deeper! If i am real careful each time i kick her up and 'feel' where the shaft is trying to engage then it is ok but when it slips it feels like it is going to snap off! (The bike does not have the de-compressor fitted)

Just after some advice if poss. I'm in the process of buying a Honda TLR 200. The bike is nearly identicle to the one posted by HondaRS in the Honda section on Trials Central, entitled - 600 mile TLR. As I hope to ride the bike in the easier trials around the area I plan to strip all the road going kit from the bike. Lights, indicators, ignition switch, battery etc.... and the 20 year old origional tyres, but not the gold wheels. My question is what should I do with it all? Do I keep it all in a big box and pass it on to the next owner? Could be several years. Or if there is a ready market for these parts, do I sell them? It goes against the grain to pay for somethi…

Came across an old TMX help article about a 'Gaskell clutch modification' ie Clutch plate, operating arm & shim and clutch juddering. Has anyone heard of this or know what its about - just for interest sake? It talked about using stronger springs - surprise surprise!

I have two TLR250's - one std, one in a Gollner monoshock frame. On both bikes the petrol pipe goes from the tank, through the filter to the BOTTOM of the petrol tap then to the carb. this as far as i know is the standard pipe routing (unless you know different ?) The reason for my question is that on one bike I am being plagued by petrol starvation due to kinking in the petrol pipe going fronm the carb to the tank, I have tried longer & shorter pipes and now a braided/thicker pipe but the problem still occurs. Has anyone else had the same problem? I think the solution is to space the tap out from the frame (if you have a TLR250 you will know what I mean!)…

I'm getting worn out following my two lads round on foot. Why should they get all the fun. 20 years ago I had a mint TLR 200 and now if poss. I like another one. I'll only do the easy routes (not easy for me) so I don't think I need the latest '05 Pro and anyway I need something other my lack of ability to blame !! Where would you look (TMX, EBAY, ????) and how much is a fair amount to pay for a reasonable example. The one on this site tonight looks absolutly fantastic, I'd keep it in my front room if it looked that good !!

  9. Started by g4321,

Does anyone have the spring specifications for the TLR250 - they are NOT the same as the TLR200 but are the same as the XR200. What I am interested in is the spring wear limit or even a typical length if someone has an old spring lying around - or an XR200 manual! I have new springs & friction plates from EBC on my rebuilt bike and am suffering from slight clutch slip in high gears. On comparisson with the springs that were fitted to the bike before I bought it (no idea if they are original or not - hence the plea for original specs) the EBC springs are longer but seem softer (easier to compress). I am waiting for new steel plates in case distortion or wear in th…

I've just bought what is supposed to be a tlr200, but Im not sure if the engine is right for the bike. I may have bought a dog (wouldn't be the first time) but it was cheap and it runs so what the heck! The frame number is MD09-5****** which I believe makes it a TLR200E built between '84 and'87? The engine number is JD06E-1****** which I'm not sure about. Does anyone know if this is a tlr engine? Or how can I tell otherwise? Since I'm new to the Honda scene (apart from road bikes way back) can anyone tell me when the tlr's were produced?

As a matter of interest what height have all you 250 riders (and 200!) out there got their forks set in the yokes.? I know the theory behind the geometry changes when you raise and lower fork height and have experimented with this at great length on another bike to try and improve things but in this case I am interested in what others have done. I won't even pretend to understand half of what you guys talk about in here, but I got a submission to the Trials Central Links page today for a site that may be of interest. I normally avoid commercial advertising in the forums, but this seems to be specialist and not the sort of mainstream site you can easily find unless you know about it. http://www.bps-eng.com/

  17. Following all the recent TLR discussions, I 've been thinking?? I'm at a crossroads? I have this TLR200 Reflex, which has done 6000 road miles and has been imported from California. It's never been off-road and is in great condition, mechanically and cosmetically, however I was going to carry out a concours restoration of it this Spring, which would involve a stripdown and repaint (tank has some dents and frame paint has worn away at footrests) Restoring bikes for classic shows is also a hobby, which I enjoy and I already have all the new genuine Honda plastics and parts to complete the job. It's registered and MOT'd and I ride it on the road in summer. I've had the …

  18. Started by superhondaman,

Read someware about alternative clutch plates to help stop the 'on/off' action? was Birket doing some special ones for the 200? or which are the best ones to use. Also is it best to go with mono grade (20 winter/30 summer) or 10/40, i feel that modern oils have more additives in, which contribute to clutch slip? any thoughts on this.

Seems to be quite a lot of intrest in my TLR!(or is it a TLRTL?) Nice to think it was maybe used by Saunders or Mick Andrews, gives it some pedigrie! When i purchased the bike i wrote down the numbers (scratched in paint on the left hand engine case) but for the life of me cannot find it or remember them. A lot of discution on mods & engine tuning, well it took ages to get the jetting spot on & eventualy we stuck it on a dyno and that got it running lovely, it does run on a bit when it is hot but i presume they all do this? I can post the dyno reading if anyone is interested?. A couple of points on the bike which might identify it, the clutch has a nice machined …

I purchased this TLR some3 years ago from John Lee M/C Acording to John It had been stored for 12 years prior to him buying it. The general condition then was ok, the engine ran well, but the whole bike really needed stripping and brought back to as near original condition as possible. Some markings on the engine and wheels pointed to it possibly being used in the SSDT at some stage and also the engine has RTL250E005169 on it? is this normal? I rebuilt the bike 2 years ago to the standard you can see, and i then went to register it for the road and to cut a long story short discoverd it had been registerd by Honda Uk in 1986 with the reg number C613 UBY. I would be interes…
