Could someone give me some input as to the best way to repack a silencer? In this case my son has a Gas Gas 50. We bought it used, and it was pretty loud. I took the silencer apart and found some pretty nasty looking oily packing. I repacked it with an FMF repacking kit. The bike was really quiet!...... For about 1 hour ! What did I do wrong? Should I pack it loose or wrap it really tight? Is one packing material better than another? Or, should I just give up and accept the fact that this bike is going to be noisey? If it matters, I am running Amsoil at 80:1 and the bike does smoke a little. Thanks, Tony P Charlotte, NC USA

My friend is about to place a new cylinder on his 97 321 gasgas, we are both a little nervous about the amount of thickness of the base gasket. There is techniques buy using soder to determine this, any tips on this subject would be appreciated. sam

I have a gasgas 280 - 03 and i have some problems to get a good idling... when the bike is chocked the idling is fine when i put the chocke down it sounds very strange like uneven idling.... i have tested to turn the large screw on the side of the carbourator....is that screw both for idling and petrol-air mixture??? Does that screw have any standard setting ?? When the chocke is down i think the throttle is to sensitive....it goes up in rpm when i bearly thouch the trottle???

I have now run in my bike and still find it running a little hot. The fan is on most of the time. Is this normal? I remember soemone Perce possibly telling me to change the jets from stock to something else but can remember the numbers. Can anyone help? The bike is also very sharp which I thought I'd get used to and would soften with time but now I want to soften it myself. How do you retard the ignition on these bikes and are fly wheel weights available and worth adding?

My clutch is dragging on my 01 280 to the state that I can't find neutral at all before a section. Pretty easy when the bike isn't running, but a little embarrassing. I've seen the comments on the US Gas Gas site about measuring the clutch plates and that they expand. The problem I have is I don't know where to start. Give me a Haynes manual and I'll work it out (or hit it with a bigger hammer!) How easy is it to open the cases, check the the clutch plates and replace them or do I need to take it into a dealer. All the best, Rob.

I have an 02 Pro 280 that is set up wonderfully.. Everything is perfect EXCEPT the clutch has become very hard to pull at the lever... it operates well, it just fatigues the hand. Knowing how the clutch operates, I have my ideas about why it has become hard to pull. Does anybody else that has knowledge of this clutch have some thoughts? A hint about what I think is going wrong: The "spring" (which is actually a "ring") is the culprit. What do YOU think? I'll be calling the "parts house" first thing tomorrow and ordering the necessary items.. a ring at the least, an entire clutch pack at the most.. . thanks, W
