Gas Gas

  1. Started by motomax,

I have a 2004 280 Pro. I run the stock ignition curve with a fast throttle and a 10 tooth c/s. I am an intermediate level rider. I am curious about several items that could improve the bikes performance. I hate to leave things alone, especially stock. First is reeds, anyone have experience with Boyesen and V-Force? What do they do? Are they worth the expense on a one year old bike? Second is the header pipe? The 05 Gasser has a longer one, does this improve low end torque? How about the mineral oil system for the clutch? Does it improve performance? How about riding in temps from 20-90 degrees F? Has anyone tried programming the ignition to a more agressive …

Hello all Pulled the top end of my son's rattley 280 TXT and it's badly worn, going to pop it off to Langcourts next week for a replating. I was having a quick look at the con rod and it has no play up and down but a bit left to right, any body had a crank rebuild? Can it be done at home or do the bearings have to be pressed in, how much are new crank bearings and seals here in the UK. Any info welcome

Ive moved this post from the mechanical section to in here cos i got no answers in that section hope someone here will be able to advise me Hi my gas gas txt 280 has got broken exhaust brackets under the middle box and is blowing a bit. Its not blowing enough to make the exhaust louder as i can tell but will the bike be losing power due to it losing gas from the middle and not the end of the exhaust pipe ? The bike as been like this since i got it so i havnt noticed any power loss myself but was just wondering if the bike would pull more or be more responsive if i fixed this problem. The bike seems fine to me but if i sort the exhaust out it might feel miles better…

I was having problems starting me 2001 280 recently and so serviced the carb. It was a little dirtly and had a little water in the bowl but otherwise was OK. The bike now starts but runs badly. It pinking, hunting and not ticking over very well. I think its running too rich/lean and have tried adjusting to no avail. How many turns out should the mixture be set of normal UK riding?

Now that me entry has been accepted for the Six Day I find myself unsure which bike to use on it. I have an 04 pro 300 which I love and a 2001 TXT 280 which I haven't used for a year. I know the TXT well and it's never been any problems at all. The only real worry I have with the pro is the gear box. I get a fairly sudden and sharp take-up of gears between third and fourth so much so that it really clunks in to gear often not messing well either during the change. Is this fairly standard or is something wrong? I'm not sure it could take a hard week of changes without starting to strip teeth. (if it hasn't started already). I change the oil regularly and there is no sign …

What is the difference between a txt and a pro? I am totally new to trials and have recently bought a gasgas 280 which i thought was a txt pro. But reading the posts it looks like these are different bikes. The bike seems spot on but anything would with my standard of riding. Cheers Neil

After returning from a disappointing Sheffield Arena trial, what happened to the crowd, were they all a sleep, I must say as a Gas Gas rider that the standard of rider by ALL participants was out of this world. It is a shame that some participants are not gentlemen and use measures of unsporting conduct to promote their existance in an enthralling trial. The performance of Adam Raga on a 2 Stroke machine only goes to prove that the 4 bangers have a long way to go in terms of development to give that immediate expolsion of forward momentum that all 2 stroke riders are use to. I`m sure the debate will go on and on, was DL correct to ride a stock bike, was FG correct to a…

My son recently got a 2000 txt 280, we are having a bit of a problem with the air box, we think some kind of mud shield /flap could be missing from the top of the air box where it meets the rear guard, on the 2000 bike the air intake is on top of the air box and there is a large gap between the rear guard and the top of air box, as mud/water from the rear wheel hits the mud guard it runs right down on to the air box filling the air box with crap with in 5 minuets, we have been gaffer taping the gap every time we go out and this works fine, but the tape falls off when you jet wash, I rang Gasgas motos at Buxton and they sent me the wider mud flap as used on the pro, but t…

Anybody fitted the wider read mudflap on their pro? - did you remove the original first or just stick the new one over the top? Also, any tips on carburetion for the 250 appreciated, a tiny bit more pickup off the very bottom would be useful, currently running 35 pilot, go leaner ? I've fitted 10/40 gearing which made a big difference. Thanks.

I'm stoopid! Now that I've gotton that out of the way, can someone send me an explaination or photo of the way that the CDI and regulator is mounted on this bike. I had taken the bike apart 6 months ago and am finally getting back to putting it back together and can't figure out how to mount the CDI and regulator. It looks like 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag. Please save what little sanity I've got. Thanks!

After having had my JT25 for a couple of weeks now i'm beginning to get things sussed. However, I am struggling to eliminate a problem with the engine that I call 4 stroking. The engine runs really well at low speeds but as the engine speed increases to about half revs it begins to splutter. So far i've stripped and cleaned the carb... main jet 107 idle 36 starter 60 and whatever the other one is 270d The needle is on the 2nd notch Repacked the rear silencer The front silencer is a sealed unit but seems very heavy to me. About the same as a bag of sugar. Can it be cleaned? If so how? Having looked at the gasgas museum i can see that these are not the jet setting…

The Gas Gas handbook shows the float height being measured at 18.5mm, does anyone know whether this should be measured with the spring loaded pin in the float needle compressed or not? Also the Gas Gas Museum site says the float valve operating arms should be parallel with the gasket surface, mine are not parallel when the spring is compressed or not compressed. What settings for float height is anyone using succesfully, and how do you measure it??

I have recently noticed a knocking noise on my 02 280pro (which i now know it is due to txt/pro differences discussion). It appears when the engine is revved faily high then the throttle is shut off. The shop i bought it from said it sounds as if it is running lean. I adjusted the carb and the noise died down but the engine kept stalling. The noise appeared to be coming back when the bike eventually stopped due to being out of fuel. Another rider said his Gas Gas used to make a similar noise when it was running low on fuel. Anybody else had a similar experience? Cheers Neil
