Sidecar Trials

Sidecar trials are hard to find we have discovered. Sidecar trials for beginner are even harder! Normandy Club (part of the Thames Valley Trials Combine - TVTC) have said they will lay out a few trials catering for sidecars if they can get at least 3 outfits interested. How the hell do you ride these things!!!!! This morning I set off to the MOT station on my Suzuki SP400 and trials chair, along with two bags of sand as ballast. I now know that you can't brake and turn left at the same time. Anyway now road legal so off this afternoon with my newly press-ganged monkey in the chair and we soon come to terms with left and right turns on tarmac. I presume that the set up is something like as it goes in a straight line, but on right hand turns it under-steers and the front wheel hops sideways. Hi, newbie here ........ I've been building and evolving a Honda 125 for a year now, not for competition but for getting quietly and carefully around various farms and landscapes. As a solo it's more than proved itself, but a small chair came along and I'm here to look for advice. The bike is a CB125S frame with an XL fromt end, a CG motor and a SL tank. And quite a lot of fabrication. love the push rod powerplant which has oodles of torque and is very economical. Finally got my Beamish outfit up and running (too many bikes to look after!). We now need to find some Trials to ride. SE England would be good an something that complete beginners can cope with! Any help / advice much appreciated.

As I mentioned in my previous post I am in the process of attaching an old trials sidecar to my even older Suzuki SP400 with a view to Green Lanes and possibly a long distance trial or two such as the Ilkley Classic Trial Before I start getting carried away with the MIG welder I need to know how the side car should be set up. As it is the sidecar lines up with the sidecar axle about 9 1/2 inches ahead of the bike's rear axle when there is a slight toe in. I understand this is about right, please let me know if I’m wrong. My biggest concern is lean out or not. I understand that most road outfits have a couple of degrees lean out. I am not sure if this is to overcome roa…

I seem to have landed myself with the job of co-ordinating the offroad display area of the Festival of Sidecars! This year, we would like to have a good display and demos of all types of competition sidecars, and I am working on plans to allow members of the public to be able to try passengering (and possibly driving where drivers are willing to allow this). Currently it looks viable to have this for sidecarcross and enduro outfits on the motocross track, and I am hoping that there is enough land that would be suitable to set up a few trials sections. It is with great regret that the Lakes MTA have today taken the decision to cancel The Lakes Sidecar Trial and the Twin Shock Team Trial scheduled for this weekend ( 23rd and 24th July). The lack of entries in the support classes have made this difficult decision necesary. THe clash with the Reeth 3 Day was always going to be difficult but this combined with the Barbon Hill Climb and other events taking place in the area have left us with no man power to run an event up to the required standard. I have taken the brave/foolish/mad (delete where applicable)decision to purchase a sidecar off of ebay to pair with a Montesa 348. Having ridden schoolboy twinshocks in the 80's, mono more recently and then moving back to twin shocks I suddenly had the urge to give sidecars a go.... I am wondering if the sidecar enthusiast's can help with the following: 1) What are the common mounting points for the chair to the bike and how should I approach a Montesa 348 2) For a newbie what are the basics and how would you build up the practice ? any help appreciated Rob

I have bought a Trials sidecar is there any clubs out in the Cambridgeshire/Norfolk area? I have heard of Southend MCC but can't find details atm.. having said that just started to look!!!

For all you sidecar enthusiasts, the Goodwin Sheild is being hosted by Normandy Club on the 27th of February 2011 at the Old Quarry Betchworth, Nr Dorking, Surrey.

Does anybody have any experiance of what modern kids bikes are capable of pulling a chair, i've seen a couple of TY80 outfits in the dim and distant past but i've no idea of what a modern bike would be like with a chair attached. Thanks Giles

Hi Guys, I would just like to say a BIG_BIG thank-you to you guys who forced your outfits around the course at The Classic Trials Show. The spectators there (nothing to do with trials) absolutely loved it. and could not believe what they were watching. I do so hope that you guys enjoyed it just as much. And also putting us right on the prize money aspect. [it will be the same next year] Are you coming? Thanks again for putting on such a brilliant spectacle for us.
