Hi, Could anyone put me straight on the correct carburettor for my 200 Cota? It has a Amal L2624/402 (26mm) fitted, and the spec sheet it states it should have Amal L-720 (20mm)???? Could this be contrutibutory to it not bleedin' starting!!!

Hi, should there be a rubber slipper that goes over the swing arm to protect it? Had a look at the parts diagram but it doesn't show one fitted, or should a chain tensioner (if fitted) raise the chain above the swing arm? Thanks, Mark

Hi all, just joined the forum after buying a semi restored 200 Cota. Would appreciate any advice on the common faults etc. Main issue been starting, due to kickstart not returning or connecting without pulling by hand to a point to kick over. Good compression and spark, good fuel etc??? Any help appreciated. Thanks, Mark.

Hi all, Purchased some NJB replacement Clubman shocks for my recently acquired 200, came to fit them last night, and was surprised to find upper mounting lugs are different diameters?? The lugs are standard and have not been re-welded I am informed, but the left is 14.2mm and the right 12mm, any particular reason does anyone know? Pressed the rubber bush out, and changing the metal insert to suit, just seems strange!!

Hi, Can anyone offer assistance in how to correctly set the timing on a 200 Cota? I recently purchased the bike in 90% restored condition, but for the life of me It will not start. Checked plug gap, getting a good spark but refuses to burst into life. Any help appreciated.....P.s is the kick start position key to proceedings? Cheers, Mark

have had a trusty 315 for 11 years now, great bike but the front brake is very average. This was made very apparent when my son got a 125 Sherco on which the brakes are outstanding. Have just fitted new EBC pads which made no difference. Any tricks ? Caliper ? Master cylinder ? anything else ? Cheaper the better of course as its only an old girl I play on occasionally. thanks

my 315 has an annoying crack/banging noise on full extension fork seals are good and checking the oil levels they seem fine as per the manual, oil was recently changed. The manual does mention in the right fork section a "stopper rubber" I don't see it in any of the pictures or the parts diagram, any ideas ? I also see that the left fork has a "rebound spring", this could be adding to my noises, do these generally give any bother ? I see it in the parts book but unless I am wrong its doesnt list it with a part number. before a full striping I would like parts at hand or at least located as I dont want the bike off the road for long and a…

From reading through the forums I seem to get the impression that the Monty's are pretty reliable. This is a trait that I like and I have come across a 2000 315R, ( Montesa's are pretty rare in these parts) that I'm going to cast my eye over. I was after peoples opinion as to whether they think this is a suitable bike for a beginner? The alternative I'm looking at is a 04 Beta 200 Rev3 but this costs a few more bucks. Any guidance or thoughts would be most welcome. Thanks Barney

Hello all! First time on the forum so i thought i'd say hello and see if i can get a little advise. I have been riding Jap sports bikes for ages and a few weeks ago i had a go on a mates trials bike and have got the bug! since then i have done a few rides with borrowed bikes any loved it so i got myself a 2001 Montesa 315-r. it was cheap but in a real bad state: filthy, suspenion needed refurb, fudged air filter, carb full of spooge..ect ect. I took the head off and some oily carbon but didnt look to bad, decided to take the cylinder off and found that the piston was badly scracthed and the bottom piston ring had beed destroyed, the cylinder had some light scoring so i h…

Just picked up a well used 2001 315r. Trying to get it running right. Got a chance to take it out to the woods today and in 1st and 2nd all is well. Get on a dirt road and take it up to 3rd and 4th and it wont take any throttle. Starts cutting out and bucking and wanting to die. Only seems to do this once its up to temp. Which sorta makes testing potential fixes a pita. So far I have been through the carb twice...its spotless. Tried the floats every which way and didnt make a difference. Need to pick up a new spark plug tomorrow as everywhere was closed on Sunday here. Old plug doesnt look to hot. But not sure if thats related. Anyways...looking for other ideas. I …

Hi, can anybody point me in the right direction for a detailed drawing and/or tech essay for the forks, showa I think..... As stated on a much earlier post of mine, it's my bro's bike, he's got no money, and a pair of forks that he's stripped down, and unsure on how to re-assemble. I've got the new seals, but noticed that the teflon coated bushes ( look like spacers or something ) have worn through the coating in places.......how does this affect the forks.......and how much are they ? I've got the manual, but it seems a bit vague. Ideally, I could do with an exploded drawing, but anything will help ! By the way, the forks where very hard to seperate, is this normal ?

Hi all, I've moved back to Colorado and brought my 315R with me. It is jetted for sea level and ran great there. Not surprisingly it is super rich at my house now (I generally ride from 7500-9k'). I have lots of jetting practice and brass from my MX and enduro bikes, but have never opened up the carb on this bike. If anyone has recommendations on jet size to get in the ballpark that would be super helpful. Also what is a good source for jets for this bike? I have lots of brass for my enduro bikes but they are all Mikunis and probably much larger jets. Thanks!
