I use either 10w30 or automatic trans. for trans oil, but for injection, I got rid of the pump and use premix

The big question! I am working on a TY frame and motor project that up to now was very clear. I have 3 A ( 434 ) motors one is in my std riding bike and I would prepare another one for my project, complete overall including a little porting, head reshaping, squish calculated, timing and flyweel weight removal. But yesterday I was offered a B ( 493-1... ) complete Ty. Now you know my question. I rode C and D model so long ago that I cant tell the difference between them. I'm not looking to start an argument over witch one is the best, but I would like your input on both model A and B. This motor will go in a D modified frame. Soooo... what do you think?

Hi Wombat I don't know how to send you the page but if you send me a PM I will foward you a page on fleebay with a set of 3rd os ring for your TY.

I have a 434 that I ride for fun at different comp that was refresh last year, at first it was Ok. I '' geared '' it 12 / 55 ( 428 chain )and was fun to ride but it went slowly very flat on me, to a point that it was unpleasant to ride. It did not slall on me but would not pick up. I cleaned the silencer ( help to a point I know I need to do a complete job on the exhaust ) put on a .020 in head gasket gain another bit and finaly change the original carb for a VM 26mm Mikuni ( ordinary round slide ). Now that made a big difference, so much so that I put the 13t front sprocket back on after an hour of riding. I think there's a lot of small thing that can make a big difference in performance.

No wonder they where so cheap, less than 50% of the price of Michelin

I don`t know what went wrong on the first try, the computer went ``?&$%//" `` and the post was sent.
Anyway my question is: does somebody have a feedback on Bridgestone TW5 tube type ( 400/18 ) trial tire?
I would install it on a TY 250.

As anybody tried it on a 175cc motor ?
Guy

Duncan, I am very interested in your question because the subject as been discusted with 2 friend that own 175 and I have a few spare parts from a 250A. It surely would'nt be a '' plug and play affair '' and for me ( at least ) bigger carb isn't what I am loocking for for my trial bike, but it's probably only me, I will follow this thread with much interest.

I'm in Canada ( shipping?? ) I only got the bike last week and I can not give you the exact condition of the cylinder or piston but I am certanly interested, as I haven't got to taking the weels and motor out of the frame to bring it in the basement. It's in the shed now and I have to work in God's garage to do the job ( today' max is 1 celcius ). It may take a couple of weeks to get to it.
If your still interested I'll keep you posted.

Hummm I just picked up a ty mono 350 1986 that need tlc ( and love ) but I'm not sure I made the right decision to go for that 350, it seem's that a 250 would have been the way to go. Any advise, I'm very confuse.

Mine ( TY 250A ) are 34mm ( tube diameter ) and 29 1/2 inch long from center of axle to the top of the inner tube ( not measuring the cap nut )

I don't think the vent should be a problem when starting the motor, it would enentualy lean the flow but on a longer run. New Mikuni? As the problem started when the new carb was installed ? Can you try the old carb if it was still working and see if your problrm is solve? Is the sparkplug wet or dry ? Sorry I rered your post is the filter installed the correct way ( flow from thank to carb ), that could append to the best of us

I would check the kill switch espacialy if it fell on the ground a few times

The carb on my 74 ty is original,I figure that '' it's not The carb it use to be ''. so I think it's time for a new one, but I never played around with the carburation on a trial , Boyesen # 652 are definitely in next the carb.
Guy

As long as we are in the carburation intake subject, my original carb seem's ok but what about a new Mikuni, and a few guy's run flatslide on Sherpa 350. Is it worth making the change ?

My steel reed valves are new ( NOS from the dealer where use to work in 74-75 ). Loss of low end torque isn't what I am loocking for. I run a TY A with no weight on the flywheel so quick response on the trottle is ok for now ( or should I say FOR ME ). Dual stage Boyeson alone no spacer will change the power band in what way?
Guy

I everybody I hope the holiday season as been good and I hope the bad wheater is behind you ( I also hope our Australian friend are in a better situation then they show us on tv ).
Here are the questions. What's the deal with the spacer some guys install between the carb and the reed valve block, is it ok to install one with steel reeds or only with Boyesen reed.
What' the tickness of the spacer, any info would be welcome.

Thank you much guy's, it will settle a problem.

Does a 434 model flywheel fit on a later model 493 or other??
I hope all off you have a great holliday season.

A while back someone put on I don't witch forum a picture of a twin shock TY with YAMAHA 1970 Yamaha Racing colour, i.e yellow with black striping. I won't say that I'm not interested in having my A model painted like that, but at least I would like to have another look at it. For the benefit of the owner of that beauty, I live in Qu
