Thank's B40rt, I sure like to ride the Mono, but don't intend to use it in competition, there is no Aircooled Mono class in Quebec, and I not up to ride with the Modern guys.
After I finish the reassembly of the TS, and mount the IRC on the 215 rim and the on the 185, I will '' attack '' the Mono, I want to lower the pegs, rebuld the motor ( main bearing, sea,l new rod, rings ) and beleave it or not if needed a new 3rd o/s ''genuine'' Yamaha piston and rings set. I'm happy to know that both tire and rims and tires are '' mixable '' , the word around here was that I would not be able to set any of them on the 185 rim.

Since a starter is in the '' conversation '' one guy who come to some of our competitions in Quebec used a 125 ( I think ) 4 stroke Yam in a frame he made himself and it sure look like it's a good ride.

I have done the same putting the two rims together, as I wrote, I never tried a 185 rim. If you mounted the tire yourself, was the 185 harder to set the tire in, as I mentionned my plan is to mount one rim with a Michelin and the other with an IRC both 400/18 tube type to go on my modified 250 TS and another IRC on my Mono.

I asked this question a few years ago with no answer, but maybe this time I will get lucky. I bought a few basket case TY ( A, B anc C model ) with different rear rim width: 185 and 215. I ride the 215 rim with a Michelin X11 and bought an IRC tr11 as a spare, I would like your input on this : should I mount the IRC on the narrower rim or change the Michelin to the narrow rim, or is it a bad idea to mount a tire on the 185 rim?
I hope someone who tried this can give me is input

I burn mine : I put a little gas in and light up with a torch, once the fire is started, I leave a bit of oxigene whit a bit of air from the compressor and let burn. If the combustion is right, you can '' follow '' the the red patch all along the exhaust. I have to tell you that it's not the thing to do when a neighbor is out on the patio whith friends, it make a lot of smoke. Another way to do the job is to put the exhaust in a fire and let burn.

Good for you, I don't think you will be sorry mov to go ing to the 250, the 350, from what I heard is hard to '' jet '' properly in different wheater and altitude. For the brake plate, maybe this can help if you don't find a plate http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/topic/44335-ty-yz-brake-shoes/

Simply take the silencer off for a test will give you an idea.

Rox Riser is the way to go for ajustable bar riser. .... I think ....

you can have spark when testing it but the compression can '' blow '' the spark, So flywheel off ( check the key ) and check point condenser.

Is it running with the choke on ?

i just receved yesterday the entry form for this year Vintage Fest at Ormstown Qc , and for the 3rd year Mick will be there. I look foward to meet him again, as you all said great MAN. He does'nt only advise you on riding technic, he generously give you pointers on '' setuping '' your bike. If you never attend Mick trial scool, you miss something.

I think that you should stick to DT and not to DTMX or MX as those have single ring. DT 360 1st os and rings are avalable for under $100.00 US.

I use to ride a TY A with the flywhell lightened, now I ride a B model with the same flywheel. I could'nt bring myself to put the super heavy B model one. Might be the right thing in mud mud mud !!!
As far as the MAR, I only tried one and it was not setup for me so I did'nt like it but the owner was cleaning it sections with 2 finger in the nose I would '' 5 ''.
Jon, the extra ground clearence make a lot of difference.

I don't know about that. Those groove are pretty full of dirt when I take the wheel off and clean the brake.

Here in Canada they where equiped with a starter ( from 1974 on I think ) and where heavy with a flat power band. I don't know anybody that modified one to improve it. Also agreed with twinshocktosser for there quality.

depending of the way you cut and reweld, oyu can keep the same wheelbase as the original.

If you plan to make the mod David did on the Peter Pace replica, think twice about the next trial you want to attend with that bike. I have acces to a machine shop and I worked in maintenance for a long time, I can tell you that it took me a lot more time than I thougt it would, and the final assembly is often not the final assembly as you have to custom fit everything. So I realy tip my hat to you David, planning and realising that bike with nothing but old photo to refer to, I don't know how you did it.
I hope you enjoy riding that TY as much as I do.

Hi oilmanincanada
Where, in Canada, do you live ?
I have a couple of TS TY and a 250 mono for witch I am looking for a 3rd os piston with no luck.
Guy
-
I have a set ot Betor trial expert and a set of NJB ( both 340mm, 40 pound spring ) on standatd and modified TY and I like the NJB trial Expert, I should tell you that I'm an average rider, so maybe I cannot tell the difference.

Hi Thats_a_five, if you look at the other picture you will see Mono and IT piston, machining a new sleeve with the exact porting is a lot of work since I only found one second OS for std 250 mono.
After the holiday decision time will come so ....

Fantnik : Thank's I will check Wiseco although I'm not there biggest fan and also give Mitaka a look
Tony : Yes the piston pin is set close to 2 mm lower on the Mono ( probably because of the 68 mm stroke vs the IT YZ TY ts stroke is 64mm ) and the skirt of the piston is also longer on the Mono. So if someone have done the mod they had to mofify the cylinder base and the also machine the head .
2stroke4stroke : Yes I'm looking for a barrel or a complete bike for parts, but here in Québec ( Canada ) they are few, and I looked all over the net to find a piston ring set.
Hopefully I will find the parts or the correct modification to do because as you can understand I can't make mistake.

The bad news came this morning, I need a 3rd OS piston ( and ring ) for my 250 Mono. I didn't find one and I am told an IT ( or YZ ) or a TS piston would fit with modif made to the cylinder and head. Quite a few post are scratching the subject, but if someone as done the job with good result I would apreciate the details. Of course my first choise would be a 3rd os TY but ... I also will change the rod , but replacement is avalable. There are 2 different type of IT piston, the one with the '' arche '' is suppose to be beter but wear faster. I don't realy use the last bit of power of the bike since I am an average rider. So TS or IT and if IT, withc one choose?
A couple of picure of IT VS std TY http://s1065.beta.ph...837536139540032
I should say that TS piston is not a problem to get .

Thank's, I'll pass those info to a friend who is looking for a way to change the handlebar mount or to move it back on is KT he is considering using RoxRiser to do the job , I don't know if it's a goo idea.
