Does it pull from idle and than get's rough or is it rich right from idle, also check if the carb is clean, I bought the same carb and had the same problem to find a piece of plastic providing the choke to close correctly.

What do you want to do with the bike?

I bought a 44 H TY mono a few weeks back, fixed the igniton and put it in the shed while I finish a TS project, this weeckend I made a few round behind the house to find it very VERY " SLUGGISH " so I took the carb off cleaned it put it back with no improvements. I'm sure the exhaust need's a good cleane up but still I think the carb need's fixing. I have " on the shelve " a new roung slide 26 mm Mikuni ( VM type ), is it a good idea to try it on ? Or am I loosing my time, I know I have to modify the flywheel. but I have to start somewhere.

Ok this is one of the first thread I read when I bought my TY. I can tell you the clear answer : Yes it is worth the trouble.

I talked to a friend who is quite aware of mod made on 2 and 4 stroke back in the days, I wanted some advise on the front pipe on my mofified TY. I wanted to cut about 3/4 inch and reweld it. The first thing he told me is: your gonna loose bottom power, so I did not touch it. Is it possible one would gain low end torque by lengthened the it ?

Comming from you David, I can only think I did it right.
Guy

Exhaust? probably. Air filter ? Most likely Timming? I'd surely check, but your on a Yamaha, so you will have fun.
Guy
Ho Lord... I sound like I have a favorite prejudice.

Yes on the bike on the left the frame was modified to increase ground clearence. That's why I have been asking so many question on modified TY frame. It's a lot of thinking, fitting but it's well worth the work. I have to thank everyone who gave me advise, some of them deserve double thank you.

I ride them both, but one will have to go since there is more birds in the nest.

How do you post a picture?
Guy

I did it last year ( a VM Mikuni ) I had to sort out the jetting. It was not easy since my TY A is not stock. But yes they fit right on.
Guy

Make sure you have the right model, I order from R..Rider in the US to receve TY Mono reeds, I think if I want some Boyessen for a TY I will now order them from B&J in US.
Guy

Easy , simply to make sure the bike would get top money ???????? 40 odd year later.

Nice work Jon, I work mine with the frane right-side-up but the general idea is the same witch reassure me as I have no reference exept pictures and a lot of help on this and other post. I still am a little confuse with the air filter, I will probably make one so fit properly

Cable Cable Cable . It seem's silly but I had the same problem I quadruple check everything untill someone mentionned the cable. When removed from the bike it look ok but it would'nt slide all the way.So I was burn one time now it's the first thing I check.

I finaly found a TY Mono 250, I had a 350 a couple of years ago but could'nt pull myself to fix it ( a 350 was not what I wanted ) so I sold it for the price I had paid to someone who was locking for one. My new aquisition need some tlc but is in a fair shape, I don't want to make it a SSDT winner but a good reliable trial machine. In the serial number there is 44H so I assume it's the model, Since it's running I was able to test ride it at home and first thing that came to mind was " Am I on the second floor? " I am use to my TY A with the footrest lowered more than one inch. Now a few questions Fork oil, it says in the 350 cc manual ( the only one I could find ) 99 mm from the top of the inner tube without spring is it ok, I run premiun gas with 20% VP mix : 50:1 on my A model I plan to use the same any tought on that? I found the motor very slow on throttle I run my A without weight on the flywheel should I do the same on this Mono and I am considering putting Boyesen reeds, should I cut some web on the reed block.
Any advice welcome.
Guy
PS I would have posted a picture, but I don't know how

What is the standard ( front and rear ) sprocket on a 44h TY Mono? The only parts list I find are for 350 cc model, are the sprockets the same on 250 and 350 early Mono? And If anyone would share there experience with different size I would apreciate.
Thank you in advance

You need that seat, it goes with the rear footrest. But it look in very good shape for a barn rescue.

First strip the clutch, your problem started there, but I would not be satisfied until I the thing would lay in parts on the table, You see finding the problem is one thing but the most important thing is finding the cause of the problem.

I have a couple of TY 250 ( 2A and 1B ) and I am pretty sure that I could do better with the air intake. I run Mikuni round slide ( std VM 26mm ) with the exhaust is clean on my rider and a KT250 motocross silencer will be install on my project. I finaly found the correct jetting on the Mikuni VM, now low end and midrange torque are a lot better than with the small 26mm Mkuni of the B model and the poor KT carb from the A model, and throttle response is quick and predictable. But, I think that the air flow is not as good as it could be, so I am thinking changing the standard air filter system. Availability is not so great in Quebec and I don't want to order 265 thousand different air filter before finding one that can do the job.
Any advice??

And with the fork as to come the front wheel.
Guy

And if you get a road bike and don't want to do the above, get a newer bike with driveshaft and disk brake.
Guy

Good cleaning of the brake, a little sanding of the liner and a couple of groove on the brakeshoe ( to help drain if wet ) and your in business. Oh yes, set the brakeshoe properly in the " drum " so they make good contact with the drum.
