I gess it as, but, with the footrest lowered, it as to compensate. Plus the change of the position of the top shock mount and there lenght also change the fork rake witch make it, in my opinion ( might not be the best ) easier to ride. I live in Québec, no other Ty that I know were modified to these specs, but I still have a standard TY and even if I am NOT an expert ( lot of weight on the NOT ) I can tell you as I commented in an other post : yes it's worth the trouble to make the mod.

The best one is the one you enjoy riding

I did the same mod on my TY B 2 years ago, I realy do like the bike now. With the motor raised an inch I change the footpegs position and put longer shock. I never regretted it.

A clean exhaust, good timming and a rebore with a genuine piston ( at least a 2 ring piston ) to factory spec. is ok, for a little more punch you can play with he flywheel weight. That what I did to 2 ( an A and a B model ) and it work ok for me.

When I reposition the shock on my B model, I already had a pair of NJB trial expert 340 mm on the bike. I also lift the motor one inch . I have to tell you that I am not an expert rider, but an experience one. First thing I notice is: the steering felt better, second: when I tune the shock properly , the bike feelt smoother.
The front end angle as changed a bit due to the lifting of the rear, and the longer travel of the rear wheel made it smoother. I can't tell you it made a better rider out of me, but I can tell you it made a happier one.
On the one I am riding now ( B model ) I positioned the shock mount 11 1/2 inch from the center of the swingarm pivot, and the one I am bulding now 11 1/4 inch. If my brother was to buy a TY, I would tell im to first: reposition the footrest and second reposition the shock mount, so ...

I would be curious to know the stroke on both.

Best way for me is: using a rattle gun with the fork assembled, I give i a couple of shot to '' unlock '' the buttom allen without completely removing it, and than, I strip it . It alway's work.

Those comments are not very encouraging but as Yoda said '' Happy you will be when result is good, patience my friend '' Or was it someone else that said that.

I took the flywheel off my TY 250 after a few rides on it , I was a little afraid that I would loose traction easily in muddy section, but with the tire and suspension that are avalable now, I never had any problem . I'm not a top rider and my throttle control is not the best, but I never considered replacing the no-weight flywheel with the spare one I bought just in case.

I had a TY Mono 250 ( with my 2 TS ) that I refresh with new 2nd o/s rings, when looking for those ring I found out rods rings and piston where very rare. So in my '' quest '' for ring I found a 3rd os piston and ring set at 220.00$ US.One and a half time the price of a genuine Yamaha TS piston I bought it. The original piston have close port as the one on the web site have open ones, according to Mick And.. they work very well but wear faster. If you want a picture of the original piston, pm me.

I have to agee with OTF. I'm not a good rider, but I can stop in a section, I think that the idea of TS trial ( at least for me ) is riding the old machine the old fashion way, it's an equaliser, and at the end of the day, there is more smiles.

Head gasket on my 250 is copper, so no problem reusing it.

Your right on with the low speed jet and the needle. If the crankshaft seal is the problem, if my memory serve me right, you don't have to split the crankcase to change it. Hopefully you put your finger on the problem.

Stiff clutch ? On a TY Mono ?????? Not on my 250 and not on the 350 I had for a little while.
I think you need to understand jetting before you continue tweeking , or be more specific on the way you ride. Just '' cracking '' the throttle to hop on a rock or half throttle all the time.....

Have you tried to run the bike with the tap half or 3/4 close?

I don't know about burning a TY mono exhaust, there not like the twinshock, they are the '' paked '' kind I did not do it on my 250 because of that.

That was the first thing I did with the bike when I unloaded it, pull the tank, drain it, pull the carb, drain and clean it thoroughly, and refill with fresh 91 octane ethanol free gas mixed at ~55:1 with the same 2T oil I run in my '' injected 70s kawasaki F7 & KE125 '' Did you use injection oïl for your premix ? If so what oïl do you use ??

No hammer just a little heat and the bearing slide in place.

Hi Kee, I live in Québec where there is quite a few TY TS ( mostly A model ) , I brought 2 back to life and have look around for parts for 4 or 5 years,
so if you need something that you can't find localy, pm me and maybe I will be able to point you in the right direction.

I think there is a project to built a few of them, It seem's Yamaha gave Mick permission.

I don't think that if you '' close '' the steering it would be a good idea, on the contrary you will have to do the oposite by at least 25mm.

Thank's for the feedback David, we are '' almost '' non-stop now at our events ( there are a few reluctant rider, but.. ) and very low RPM and steady low end power make a lot of difference. I use original steel reeds and I have been thinking about trying Boyesen but I am not yet convince.
