  1. John. I've got a ty tank and I'm just going to mount a flat plate fir the seat. Might need to manufacture an exhaust guard - I hate getting burnt!!!! The old mont alloy tanks & covers are getting rare. Ideally a plastic ty pinky tank is the thing -proper screw in fuel cap too !!!! Look forward to seeing you use it in anger. When they're done I'll try to get up your way for a trial. Cheers The Wobbler

They were new plates from in motion - I tried ATF but it just slipped - I think it might be ok used with a fibre style plate. I'll do some homework and keep it posted. On another note I took my engine out today & the exhaust came off without loosening the engine mountings. Cheers for now The Wobbler

John & quo - Don't suppose you'd like to prep my bikes. They look great - but I'd certainly scratch them !!!' John - as for the clutch - I meant a more modern take up, with a bit more feel - rather than just drive or no drive. Some fibre Style plates might be the answer - but there are non that are a straight fit - times like this I wish I was more technical. But then I probably wouldn't want a 247 if I knew more about mechanics etc!!! Keep the updates coming and you both must have shares in a decent polish company !!! Cheers The Wobbler
  4. Some njb trikshox - they were ok but I think the falcons are better - I have rock shocks on my Fantic and prefer those. So next change I'll try some on the mont. Good luck it's a minefield !!! Chees The Wobbler

John - great job , but you'll need sunglasses on its that clean !!!! Keep the updates coming !!! I'm trying to get some heads up on how to get a better clutch set up !!' Any help welcome . Cheers The Wobbler
  6. John, The only problem for me is good riders could ride a camel and make it look easy - I need all the help I can get - especially on a 247 !!!! It would be nice if all these companies had a demo set that they would let you try for say £25 (refundable on purchase) then we could all try them !!! I for one would only know when they are on the bike and buying 3/4 pairs to find the best just isn't reasonable. Where are you- I'm about to start an engine rebuild on mine through the winter - you could maybe try my rock shocks !! Cheers the Wobbler
  7. John - depends how good you want it to be for competition. For me 1 - rock shocks 2 - falcon 3 - sm & njb's They'll all do a job and you can get them set up to your weight and style of riding. The rest comes down to price! The guys at rock socks and falcon are very helpful. Just give them a call and see what you think. Cheers The Wobbler

No spacers on mine either. John did you get the tapered bearings from in motion ?? It's looking good. The Wobbler

Now you've got me thinking. I'll have another look at mine !

John- I think in motion do a tapered roller bearing for the headstock now. I'm going to change mine - much better then the loose ball bearing type. Looks good - but your other in the back ground doesn't look too shabby either !!!! Cheers As always the Wobbler

John - I wanted mine down and back. I'm sure you could do something with a Montesa 315 or beta hanger. Cheers The Wobbler

exhaust picture ....it just screws straight in John - the footpeg pictures + S3 hardrock pegs

    Montesa Cota 247

Steve - it should just come straight off. There is a bolt near the carb on the inside and the threaded clamp / manifold . Maybe show us some pics. John - I'll try to post those footpegs mounts tomorrow. Cheers The Wobbler
  15. John - I'll take some pics next week and post them for you!
  16. Oh go on then !!!!!! Then and Now
  17. John - good work keep up the posts..... Can you not just trim the fibre glass cover. I've been thinking about taking mine off and putting a tank on off something else. Then just a seat plate. I like the idea of a comp bike with the right bits on Mikuni -rock shocks - quick throttle - foot pegs moved ....then a standard one to remind me how bad they were !!!! Cheers The Wobbler.
  18. I don't think they'll fit as the 247 swinging arm is a complete tube from one side to the other whereas the others mount to the back of the engine I think. My thoughts were to get it measured for a roller bearing and then get a spindle made up. I'll use my spare one then if it doesn't work no major problem. I'll keep you all updated too. Cheers As always " the Wobbler"
  19. Yes - I have a spare swinging arm and frame and a full standard bike . I might just leave the standard one untouched at the minute !!! I was thinking about rebuilding the engine and using it then getting my comp bike rebuilt as it's a bit rattley - but I might just do it at the end of the year. I'll keep you updated on the electronic ignition and I'll try to get some measurements for the swinging arm bearings. It would be ideal just to use a spindle and bearings off a more modern bike !! Keep up the posts. Cheers As always "the Wobbler"
  20. John, I used the old swinging arm spindle - I would think there will be a few out there if you have a look? I do however think that finding a larger spindle from something else and fitting some roller bearings would be a better idea - it would just mean drilling the holes in the frame out. This is my intention when I do my next one. I'm sure one of the "classic" suppliers could make one . Sorry I can't be much more help. Good luck and keep us updated . I'm in the process of fitting an electrex world electronic ignition - I'll report my findings for those interested. Cheers for now The Wobbler
  21. John, Pleased you sorted it - i'll look out for you both at Twinshock trials ......If you want to "Trick" it see if anyone has any pictures or information on Peter Gaunts TLM ....I'm not sure what cc it actually is now - but I know he beat me on it !!!!!!! Cheers The Wobbler...
  22. My "Ten Penneth Worth" !!!! Buy the air cooled mono and find Fantic 50 twinshock frame !! swap the engine then you can swap it back for Air cooled Mono .....I believe the engines are the same ...... Or get a TLM 50 Honda .......Peter Gaunt rides one well.... Either way good luck. Cheers The Wobbler
  23. Gents, Thanks for the comments - I was lucky to have a mate or two to help in the rebuilding & "Lucky" was tongue in cheek !!. The suspension was horrible before I put the nylon bushes in - now its just average !!!. I like the idea if some roller bearings but you're never going to make a racehorse out of a camel so you have to stop somewhere. I'm more than happy to put "Off the shelf" mods on - but sadly I'm not skilled enough to do more than that.........although I would happily test some that any one wants "Bashed about" !!!!! Cheers for now. The Wobbler.
  24. I was lucky ??? my bike was stolen set on fire and recovered so I had no choice. I was struggling to find replacements so the nylon bush set up works and seems to be fine a year on !! Before Torched And now
  25. Alchemy, I too had a similar problem -and the rear end always felt to stiff .....mine only has a spacing tube (not Threaded). One of my more technical friends made some nylon( he said it was hard wearing and self lubricating) bushes that the swinging arm spindle just passes through - it does seem be better but I also put new Falcons on at the same time. If you decide to make something -i would probably have a set as i've another to rebuild as well - Just give me an idea of cost. And please keep posting - as i'm not the most technical person and although there are a few more 348/9's competing there are not so many 247's. Cheers for now. The Wobbler
