It's quite normal that most of the youth drivers are better in trials than her parents, made the experience myself....
My son had both for years, modern and twinshock trials, now ( nearly 17 ) he prefers classic trials and we sold the sherco.
He still enjoys modern driving style in combination with Classic, to give him more performance we bought a TLR250 for him, which suits for both...
If you prefer a 4-Stroke, buy one for you, let your son make some test rides on different modern bikes ( from friends or a trials bike dealer ) and choose what suits him, one bike for two driver is no good solution...

I don't make the engine change myself, all bikes a found had a modified or completly cut ( like a Fantic 300 ) sub frame to fit the engine

The 50/80 frame is smaller then the other twinshock fantics, so no other swingarm will fit.
All small honda engines have nearly the same dimensions, easiest way will a TL 125, but also a XL185 is possible, take what you can get for little money

You can also put a little Honda engine in the frame....

The rear mounting points are different, the mono swing arm spindel runs through the engine ( I hope you understand what I mean )
So the engine is to long or perhaps try to modify a mono swing arm in combination with the mono engine.....

Got the bike at home now, runs good, shorter than my stock TL250, the 380cm³ engine is fantastic, just like a big pre65
Made the first changes, build smaller side panels, I really dislike the fantic Tank, must be changed during winter, a Tiger cub alloy tank combinated with alloy fenders might be nice, any other (cheaper )ideas ?

That must be a Change of one of the preoners, no Honda stock.
Air assist forks were very popular in the 80's to adjust the suspension, but ideal to kill your fork seals.....
Let the air out of the fork and use progressive springs, I have springs for Yamaha XS360 in my TL, works fine....

I will get a Fraser TL with a modified XL engine ( 350 crank, TL gearbox, larger Piston ) and now I have some Questions....
- which color was on the fuel tank Honda red or different ?
- fuel Tank TL250 ? ( here Fantic ) will a TL125 tank fit on the frame ?
- Is rear brake normaly always right side ? ( here left )
- Are the fenders from a special bike or something like Gonelli ? always red ?
- Engine silver or black ?
- anyone knows something about the history of the bike ?

1 l for Minarelli engines, 0,5l for allaircooled forward kick Fantics ATF oil

Have Rockshocks on my TL250, best Shocks I ever used, Don't like Betors, NJB' are ok for the Price, Falcons good, but leaking....

My son started classic Trial with 10 on a TY125, too large and heavy, then we bougth a Fantic 50 ( witch has the same frame as the 80 ) and he was happy....

two years later I build a 125 special for him with wheels, swingarm and forks from a Fantic 80, very good youth trailer
now he rides my TLR200....

The Center box without second silencer is very loud, to much noise for Trials use

The front pipe is Honda, silencer I had three different, VW Beetle silencer ( Looks ugly, made by the former southafrican owner ), universal pre65 alloy from ebay, runs good, but a Little bit to loud ( see on pic ), actually I use a old universal two stroke silencer ( like a WES ), runs good, but to silent

Short update, made 2cm Bushes for the fork internals, so now 1cm through the yokes and fork 2cm shorter, much better steering now....

Does anyone here nows how I can get a promonty exhaust for my TY 250 ?
I send a mail to promonty, but no answer....
tytrials offers some, but they want 249 for it, I found that a little bit to expensive.....

I will cut down the seat of the mouse next winter, now with mouse it looks better than the empty fixing point of the ugly fender....
